Regret
Tsukishima x Fem!Reader
Warnings: cheating, angst (but with happy ending for Y/N)
Synopsis: In which Tsukishima made a mistake he will regret for the rest of his life.
It had been so long when that fateful night happened. The night when you caught Tsukishima, your fiancé of three years, sleeping on your shared bed with another woman. Tsukishima can never forget the morbid look etched onto your face, the way your tears fell from those beautiful eyes he so loved or even the way you slipped your engagement ring and threw it on his face. He would never forget as long as he lives. He wondered, back then, if he didn’t took you for granted, if he didn’t spend his time that night drinking with another woman, while you, his fiancée was working your ass out on your internship, would it be you who’s with him as of present? Would it be you embracing him? A lot of questions, regrets flooded his mind, because after all those years, he still believes you’re his “the one”, but he fucked up big time.
The night it happened was when you were out late due to your internship, it was raining hard the moment you went out of the building. You were so worried why Tsukishima never replied to your texts nor chats saying that you will be going home late instead of going home the next day. You hurriedly went home, but the moment you opened the front door, a pair of heels that definitely did not belong to you greeted you. Trembling, you slowly walked towards the bedroom, the sight that unfolded in front of your eyes made you gasp which startled the two naked person sleeping on the bed. Tsukishima’s eyes went wide the moment it landed on your shocked state. A shiver ran down his spine as he hurriedly stood up and plucked his clothes from the floor and started to run after you. “Y/N wait! I-I can explain!” yet a loud slap was your only response and you harshly pulled the ring from your finger and threw it on his face. Tears won’t stop falling from your eyes as you ran back outside to the cold rain. Your hands were still shaking when you pulled out your phone and called someone. “H-Hello? C-Can you please pick me up?”
It had been a week after you left, your cousin, Bokuto came to pack your things. Despite Bokuto being a big ball of sunshine, he tried his hardest not to punch Tsukishima the moment he opened the door and let him in. When Tsukki asked him where you were, all he got was a death glare as Bokuto said, “Why the hell would you care?”. After packing your things, Bokuto left and Tsukishima stood by the door clenching his fist over the engagement ring you once wore in his jacket pocket. Tsukishima wondered where you were or how were you but you blocked him in all your social media accounts, even told all your friends not to tell him where you were or who you are with. You just want to cut all ties with him.
What happened that night was a one time thing yet Taukki exchanged it for something he could have for the rest of his life. He truly loved you, but he missed your warmth, your embrace, your touch, you. What he could have was a forever with you but he lost it in a blink of an eye just because he can’t keep it in his pants. He could’ve fought for you, beg you to comeback and forgive him, yet four months later after the dreadful incident, his mistress showed up telling him she was pregnant with his child. He felt his world suddenly stopped, it was over for him, it was over for the both of you. Although he dreamed of this to happen but not with this woman, he wanted you. He wanted you to bear his children, he wanted to build a family with you, not with someone whom he never truly loved.
And as Tsukishima’s world crumbled at his feet, yours on the other hand, starts anew. With the help of your dear cousin and his best friend, you were slowly picking up yourself and putting back your broken pieces altogether. Bokuto and Akaashi were there to be your emotional support. They were present at times when you were blaming yourself for what happened, telling you that you didn’t do anything wrong. Proving to you that you were more than enough and that Tsukishima was an asshole who took you for granted. He was blind to see that the most perfect person for him was already in front of his eyes yet he chose to cheat on you, to hurt you and to break you. But with Bokuto and Akaashi by your side, you slowly accepted the fact that whatever was in between you and Tsukishima was over. And it was time to forget and move forward. They never left you, in smiles or in tears they were there for you. They never let you feel alone or unloved. They were sure to put you back on your feet. “Kou, do you think I could... Y-you know...” you trailed off. “If you could love again?” Bokuto finishes what you were trying to say. “Y-yeah..” you shyly admitted. Bokuto beamed at you in response. “Of course!” He shook your shoulders enthusiastically, “Well, you know Y/N, I do believe that there is someone meant for each of us!” He states, discreetly eyeing his raven head friend from across the room. “You juat have to open your eyes and your heart. Maybe the one for your is just around the corner!” And you believe everything he said.
Five years later, Tsukishima’s life was a mess, living with a woman whom he only shares a child with was not what he dreamed of. He never truly loved the woman he ended up with. And despite his life being a mess, he cared so much about his lovely daughter, who became his light and the rock that grounded him. But even at that point he couldn’t stop thinking what would it feel if you were the mother of the child he loved so much. “Kei something came for you this morning.” His wife called as she handed him an elegant looking envelope. “I think its an invitation by the looks of it.” she added. Tsukishima put his sleeping daughter gently on the bed and took the envelope from his wife. Its an invitation, as a matter of fact, it was an invitation to Bokuto’s engagement party next week. A thought crossed his mind, would you be there too? It had been so long since he heard anything about you. There’s one way to find out.
The party was lavish. After all it was an engagement party of one of the famous pro-volleyball athletes . Everyone were on their best tuxedos and dresses. Tsukki spotted Bokuto on the other side of the hall, greeting some of the guests with his soon-to-be bride by his side. He scans the event hall, hoping to find you, and as he was about to turn, there you were standing, looking like a goddess of Olympus as you talked to Yamaguchi. His body moved before his mind could process everything and he started walking towards you, startling his wife who was clinging like a leech onto his arm. He greeted Yamaguchi first and then he faced you. “Hi Y/N.”. you smiled at him and greeted him back “Hello Tsukishima-san.” He felt a pang in his chest at how his last name rolled out of your tongue. He felt his wife tighten her grip onto his arm and that didn’t go unoticed to you and Yamaguchi. She extended her free hand to you as she introduced herself smugly, “Hello! I’m Aiko, Kei’s wife”. You only stared at her extended hand as Yamaguchi cleared his throat and turned to Aiko, half-heartedly laughing as he said “We know, Aiko-chan!”, she laughed nervously as she lowered her hand in defeat. Tsukishima was about to snap at his wife when someone approached your group and interwined their hand onto yours. Your face automatically lit up when you saw who it was.
“Keiji!”
The way how Akaashi held you close made Tsukishima’s stomach churn. It made his blood boil despite knowing he doesn’t have the right to. “Hey.” You had that look in your eyes in a same way how you looked at Tsukishima when you were together before, full of love and adoration. “Am I interrupting something?” Akaashi asked as he returned a loving gaze towards you. “No, Akaashi-san. Not at all.” Yamaguchi interjected. “Okay. Good. Y/N, Bokuto wants us on the stage.” You looked at him, confused. “What for?” Akaashi just shrugs and excuses the both of you as he gently pulled you towards the stage. Tsukishima can’t help but follow your retreating figures and feel an empty void growing within his heart.
As everyone was chatting around, Bokuto taps the mic in front of him gaining everyone’s attention. He was atanding in the middle with his fiancée beside him. “Ugh... Hello everyone! Thank you so much for being here! Kiho and I really appreciated everyone’s presence here tonight! Hahaha! But.. “ Bokuto pauses as he looked towards yours and Akaashi’s direction. “I also want to add one more thing...” He continues as he returned his attention to the crowd. “I would like to congratulate two of the most important people in my life, Akaashi and my dear cousin Y/N, on their wedding three days ago!” Everyone in the hall clapped and cheered as a spotlight was directed at you and your husband. Everyone was shouting and congratulating you and Akaashi, well, everyone except one. Tsukishima, who was standing at the farthest corner of the hall wished the ground would just swallow him whole, his eyes were fixated on you as you smile lovingly at Akaashi whose face is of a bright shade of pink. Tsukishima felt his world shattered for the second time in his life but this time its far more worst than the first. It should’ve been him lovingly gazing at you. Its should’ve been him hugging and kissing you. It should’ve been him wearing matching golden wedding bands with you. It should’ve been him calling you his wife. But he lost you long ago because of a one big mistake. And as he lowered his head, a lone tear fell from his eye, he will bear this regret until his last breath. The biggest regret of losing someone like you.

a/n: i dunno why i wanted to hurt Tsukki 😭 i’m really sorry tsukki 😭😭😭😭

THIS THING CALLED LOVE
Pairing: Akaashi x gn!Reader
Word Count: 3.6k
Genre: Some good ol' fluff and idiots in love. Reader is a flautist. College! AU
A/N: This is a gift for my beloved Sam @admiringlove. I hope you enjoy this! And as always, thank you to the wonderful @sunarent for all her help and support :)
The library. A place of peace and calm. An escape from the troubles of the world. You loved the library more than any other place on your campus. And that’s where you found yourself at the moment.
But today, you weren’t here for a regular study session, or some time away from the noise of reality. You were on a mission.
Flipping incessantly through the pages of a history book, you scoured for information on Victorian royalty, just what you needed for your latest piece of fanfiction. Writing about a royal romance was something you had never attempted in the past, and you wanted to make sure that this story would be as accurate as possible.
With a sigh, you closed the book that you had just leafed through, not having found any information of worth. You glanced across the tomes that lay scattered across the long table, various titles embossed on their spines. Suddenly, a certain volume caught your eye. Victorian Histories. Grabbing the book, you hungrily began to devour the text, absorbing every detail as you sought out what you needed.
That was when a calm voice broke your fever.
“Excuse me.”
You looked up irritably at the interruption, only to see a young, dark-haired boy smiling softly at you. A rather good-looking dark-haired boy. “Uh, yes?” You hesitated, momentarily thrown off by the aura he gave. Gentle, but strong. You realized that you had naturally eased in his presence, a rare feat for someone whom you had met for the first time in your life.
“Excuse me, it seems that the book you’re currently reading was one that I had taken for my own perusal”, he replied politely, that ghost of a smile never leaving his face.
“Oh.”
Great. Now you looked like an idiot in front of him. You wanted nothing more than to sink through the floor. “I’m-” Before you could apologize, the boy interjected, “Ah please, it’s alright, I didn’t mean to offend you. It seems that you’re more interested in it than I am. I have other books to read, please continue reading...” He paused, as if waiting for a name.
Blushing ever so slightly, you gave him your name, to which he responded with that gorgeous smile of his and introduced himself. “I’m Akaashi, it’s lovely to meet you. Do you mind if I sit here?” he asked, gesturing at the seat beside you. When you shook your head, he pulled out the chair and made himself comfy next to you. While he browsed through another book he had picked up, you couldn’t help the occasional glance you threw at the boy and the warmth that would spread across your cheeks whenever he furrowed his eyebrows in concentration. He was a relaxing presence, and you were motivated to complete your task at hand.
Once you were done with your work, and began packing up your things, you felt a gentle tap on your shoulder. It was Akaashi. “Umm, I wanted to ask you something- I’ve never seen you in this library before, are you new here?” You laughed at his question, a laugh that would remind your companion of the bright bubbling of a little brook, a laugh that would ring in his ears for days to come.
“Ah, I’m not new to campus, but merely to this section of the library. Reading about Victorian royalty is new, but I need to make sure I get all my facts right for a little something I’m writing, more like trying to”, you admitted, with that giggle of yours that sent a funny, warm feeling coursing through him.
“Well then, I hope to see you soon”, Akaashi smiled and bowed slightly to acknowledge you one more time before you left. “I hope to see you soon too, Akaashi”, you blushed imperceptibly, before nearly running out of the library.
That night, only one name played on a loop in your head. Akaashi.
A block away, a young boy was in a similar situation, as he gazed at the book he was reading, but not really registering a word of it, because the only thing on his mind was you.
Since that day, you tried to find every excuse to sit in the same section of the library, in some hope of seeing him, and maybe even talking to him. Surprisingly, you found him there every single time, almost as if he was looking for you too. Ah, if only you knew that.
During the lovely conversations you shared outside the library, (because you both had been ticked off for talking in the library), Akaashi told you all about his literature degree, his love for Nanohana no Karashiae and volleyball, his time as a setter at Fukurodani, and his best friend Bokuto. Well, all this you had to piece together over time, because Akaashi was more of a listener, and far preferred to listen to you talk. You grew to appreciate his quick-wittedness and dry humour, while your lovely personality only entranced him more by every passing day.
In short, you both had begun to catch a little something for each other...something called feelings.
And like idiots, you both did nothing about it.
One afternoon, you both were lazing around on the vast campus green, reading books, and simply talking and making rather sarcastic observations. It was then that Akaashi turned to you and asked, “I’ve been thinking, would you maybe like to come to the college volleyball match this Saturday? I’m playing as a setter and I’d really like it-”
“Akaashi! Of course I’d love to! I promise you, I’ll be there!” You cut him excitedly. Akaashi only smiled at your reaction, that funny warm feeling settling again in his chest. Nevertheless, he shrugged it off. There was no way you’d feel that way.
If only he had noticed the blush that adorned your cheeks at the thought of cheering him on.
Saturday morning arrived, and you woke up to find a text from Akaashi with details about the venue and time. You didn’t call him, as you figured he’d be busy, but you left him a ‘See you soon!’ and debated on whether you should add a heart sticker at the end.
‘No, that would be too desperate’, you concluded and settled with a simple smiley face.
After making a quick job of breakfast, you got ready for the event and made the trek to college stadium. It wasn’t a championship game, more of an exhibition-like invitational, but the pressure on both teams was high. You just wanted to be there for Akaashi, a familiar face among the milling crowd, cheering him on, and hurried to grab a good seat from where you could see all the action.
It was your first time watching him play, and you certainly did not want to miss it.
Luckily, you reached the venue in time. You found a good seat and settled down as you watched the volunteers running around to get the court ready. There wasn’t too big of an audience, only about twenty people yet, but more were coming in with each moment. You were reading a book to pass the time, when you felt someone slide in next to you.
A tall, muscular, spiky-haired someone. A rather familiar someone...where had you seen him before?
The boy must have sensed your eyes on him, because he turned to face you with a big grin on his face. “Hey hey hey, I’m Bokuto! It’s lovely to finally meet you!” When he uttered your name, and you were sure he had got the right person, you asked him, “Wait, how do you know me, Bokuto-san?”
“Ah, you’re Akaashi’s lock- Oh hahaha, Akaashi has shown me some pictures of you two”, he replied nervously. Phew, that was a close call, Bokuto thought. Fortunately for him, you hadn’t seemed to hear it, because at that moment, the crowd began to cheer as the two teams made their entrance.
The two of you cheered at the top of your voices for Akaashi, who returned the gesture with his signature smile. Soon, warmups commenced, and you finally got a taste of how Akaashi was as a setter.
Golly, if he was this good in a warmup, I can’t even imagine how awesome he’d be in a match, you thought.
Once the warmups had ended, Akaashi waved at you. You waved back and Bokuto threw him a thumbs-up. Just before the match was about to begin, some weird confidence came over you, leading you to shout at the top of your voice, “GOOD LUCK AKAASHI!”
The people around you gave you stares, and you shuffled in your seat, trying to seem as small as possible. You were internally cursing yourself at your stupidity, when a pat on your back from Bokuto broke your reverie. “Good job!” he grinned, “Look how happy Akaashi is!”
There's no way he'd blush at something you said, was there?
True to his word, Akaashi was gazing at you with that smile on his face. That smile gave you butterflies. Was that a hint of a blush on his face? Ah, it must be a trick of the light, you presumed.
The whistle blew to signal the start of the match. All the players were tense, but they played their best. You marvelled at the standard of the game; it wasn't even an official match, but no side was willing to give in, that was obvious.
Your heart swelled with pride while watching Akaashi play. First off, that jersey really complimented his figure and he was definitely a vision on court. But what enthralled you wasn’t his appearance, but his elegance. The same elegance that was synonymous with Akaashi was evident in his game. His intelligent plays and well- thought out, sophisticated movements ultimately helped his side clinch the first set with a good lead.
One thing was clear to everyone in the audience. The dark-haired setter of the host team may only be a freshman, but he was wise beyond his years. That boy right there was destined to be the captain someday.
After the first set, you found your companion unusually quiet. "Bokuto-san, what's on your mind?" you questioned. "Hmm", he mused, "Akaashi seems to be playing differently today."
"Differently? But I thought-"
"No no, he's playing well. Really well, in fact."
"I don't see what the problem is‐"
"What I mean to say", he interjected, "is that Akaashi is playing the best game of his life right there."
"Wait really? That's amazing!" You were overjoyed at hearing this.
But Bokuto was lost in thought again. "I think", he paused, "I think it's because of you."
You were stunned at his words. What now?
His features gradually eased into his quintessential grin. “I think you’re Akaashi’s lucky charm.”
You shifted your gaze to Akaashi on the court. The second set had already begun and Akaashi was just as focused as he was in the previous set, if not better. All this while, what Bokuto said kept ringing in your ears. Was he actually performing better than before? Was it because you were there? You vehemently disagreed with this thought.
There was absolutely no way you were his lucky charm.
You found yourself swallowing your words when Akaashi led his team to winning in straight sets. Bokuto was more adamant than ever with his idea that you were behind Akaashi’s impressive gameplay today, and even insisted on telling that to the boy himself, until you threatened him with bloody murder if something of that sort happened.
Soon after the game, you two met up with Akaashi, who was beaming (well, according to Akaashi’s standards at least). “AKAASHI!” Bokuto shouted in his regular fashion. “YOU WERE AMAZING TODAY!”
Akaashi smiled softly and politely thanked him before glancing at you. “You were great, Akaashi! I’m very proud of you!” You said, your heart thumping loudly in your chest.
It was at this moment Akaashi chose to be brave.
“Call me Keiji”, he said.
There it was, that feeling like butterflies. Call him Keiji? Wait-
Before you could think of how to react rationally, your body acted of its own accord. “I have to go”, you remarked nervously, “Uhhhh, I have an assignment to submit today.” Saying so, you dashed out of the stadium as fast as your legs could take you.
Akaashi was stumped. He had taken a chance, and he had failed.
He was never impulsive, and the one time he let his emotions take over, was the one time he messed up.
It was as clear as day to Akaashi Keiji that his feelings for you were unrequited. By running away, you had left your best friend a heartbroken man.
On seeing him so distraught, Bokuto put a large hand on his shoulder in reassurance. “She likes you back, Akaashi. I’m sure of it.” The setter couldn’t bear to face his senior. “You think so?” He asked brokenly.
“I know so. I could see it in her eyes. She really does care about you, Akaashi. Maybe she’s just nervous to admit it, like you are.” Akaashi was surprised at Bokuto’s wisdom; regardless, he nodded and let his words sink in like some sort of salve to his wounds.
You wanted to call Akaashi later in the day, but your professors decided to dump a truckload of assignments on you that evening, which left you unavailable for any non-academic activity. You did manage to leave him a message detailing your predicament, informing that you’d be unavailable to talk, and profusely apologizing for the awkward incident earlier.
Akaashi assured you that it was okay, just secretly relieved that you were still talking to him.
Maybe there was still some chance. Some chance that you felt the same way.
Two hectic weeks trudged by, with hardly any communication between the two of you, except for the daily ‘good morning’ and maybe even a ‘good night’ on a better day. With your coursework and assignments giving you hardly any time to breathe, the intense orchestra rehearsals you had for an upcoming concert just made you feel like you were running on borrowed time. Quite often, you wished you had Akaashi beside you; his presence always made you feel better, more at peace. But Akaashi was a luxury you couldn’t afford at the moment. It’ll be worth it at the end, you assured yourself. It will all be worth it.
Those two weeks were incredibly bleak for a boy who lived in a dorm a block away from you. From not getting to see you in the library, to not hearing your twinkle of a laugh, and not even being able to text you more than two words daily; all that was slowly driving Akaashi crazy.
He was pining for you, desperately pining for you, and your absence was pure torture.
A miserable fortnight later, you breathed the biggest sigh of relief as you handed in your last assignment. Now all that was left for you to accomplish was to get through the concert the next day, which would be no mean feat, considering you were the soloist. Or at least one of the two soloists.
You gazed at the brochure in front of you. Concerto for Flute and Harp in C, by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. You clicked a picture of the brochure and sent it to Akaashi, inviting him to your concert tomorrow. Your heart beat loudly in your chest as you awaited a reply, your mind constantly churning through a sea of doubts and apprehensions. Would he come? Am I sounding too desperate? No, he definitely wouldn’t come, I should just delete this…
Before you could confirm that you did indeed want to delete the message, Akaashi responded.
Thank you for inviting me! I’d be honoured to attend!
You let out a sigh of relief for the second time in ten minutes. He was coming. Well, of course he would. Mozart had always been one of his favourite composers, something about how light and effortless his music was seemed to appeal to the boy.
Great, now the only thing left on your list was to ensure that you wouldn’t make a fool out of yourself tomorrow. With this thought at the back of your mind, you reluctantly shuffled to rehearsal.
The next morning, you woke up tired and groggy after the insane practice that your conductor had put you all through the previous day. You managed to pull yourself up from the comfort of your bed before reluctantly sticking a toothbrush in your mouth and brushing your teeth. Sure, you were excited for the evening, but right now, sleep was all that you craved for.
Sleep all you want tomorrow. Just one last push.
Your phone beeped right then, letting you know that someone had messaged you.
More specifically that Akaashi messaged you, because you had switched off notifications for everyone except for him. You opened his chat and smiled at his texts. It was a simple ‘Good luck! I’ll see you soon’, but your heart leaped on seeing those words.
It was Akaashi, and literally anything he did was enough to make you feel all warm and mushy. Letting out a yawn, you got yourself ready for the final rehearsal, and made your way to the auditorium, but this time, with the slightest spring in your step. Today was going to be a good day, and you were sure of it.
While you put your musicality to the test with the rest of the orchestra, Akaashi Keiji was having a crisis.
"What should I do, Bokuto-san? I have some nice clothes to wear tonight, but I have no idea what I'm actually supposed to be doing. Sure, I've attended concerts before, but this is different. Should I bring her flowers or…" He rambled over the phone, something quite unlike a man of few words like him.
Bokuto, who was at the other end of the line noticed his friend's nervousness shining in all its glory. He seemed to revel in the fact that the usually wise and stoic Akaashi was now asking him for advice. Not one to waste a rare opportunity, the ace lavished his newfound wisdom on his junior.
"Hey hey! Don't buy chocolate!" He exclaimed. "Not everyone likes it, and you have to spend a fortune on something worth gifting. Just stick with flowers. Everyone loves flowers, right?"
Akaashi pondered over this for a moment and agreed with his observation. "I guess you're right, Bokuto-san."
"Now the only question that remains, Akaashi, is which flower to buy."
Suddenly, the dark-haired boy gave a confident grin. "I know just the thing, Bokuto-san. Leave it up to me."
Come five-thirty that evening, and you sat nervously in the dressing room, trying to calm yourself and shake off your nerves before the performance. Knowing that Akaashi would be in attendance certainly didn’t ease anything, if only, it increased the pressure on you.
Come on, Akaashi was brilliant in his game, you told yourself, Now it’s your turn to shine.
Your affirmation session was rudely interrupted by a knock on the door. You were more than slightly irked that someone would come to annoy you at this juncture, and you were ready to give this person a piece of your mind. In irritation, you swung the door open to find a tall, dark-haired besuited figure holding what seemed to be purple hyacinths.
Akaashi Keiji was standing at your door, holding a bouquet of your favourite flowers, looking like the most beautiful man you had ever set your eyes on.
But what surprised you were the words that tumbled out of his lips, his mouth agape on seeing you.
“You...look...stunning”, he breathed.
You blushed profusely at his reaction, desperately wishing that you could hide your face. “Thank you, Akaashi”, you managed, trying your best to sound normal and not lovesick.
Lovesick? What-
“Oh and um, these flowers are for you”, he said, bashfully handing you the bouquet he held. “I recall you once saying that purple hyacinths are your favourite, and I really debated on whether I should buy them today, given their meaning, but I figured it would make you happy so-”
You broke him off with a kiss, short but sweet.
He didn’t return it.
You began to panic. Oh my gosh, what have I done? He’ll hate me, he’ll defini-
The boy kissed you back, this time longer and more passionate. But with every ounce of feeling he had.
For what seemed like a joyous eternity, your bodies melded in what seemed like the best kiss you had ever had.
And something told you that you wouldn’t be kissing anyone else after this.
You both pulled away for breath, resting your foreheads against each other’s, trying to process what had just happened. “So…” Akaashi began. “I guess we have a lot to talk about after the concert, eh?” You both laughed. “Mhmm, I guess”, you replied.
Still holding you as close as he could, Akaashi gazed lovingly at you, and whispered, “I love you. I really do.”
“I love you too, Keiji. I love you very much.”
At that moment, you felt a warm feeling settle in your chest. Something that you only felt when he was around. Something that made you feel like you were on top of the world, like you were the luckiest person there was. You never really understood what this thing was, right up until now.
It was this thing called love.

And deapite his life being a mess, he cared so much about his lovely daughter, who became his light and the rock that grounded him.
