over the hiatus there's been a lot about buck spiraling over losing eddie. which. fair. boy is gonna spiral. but also. have we not contemplated:

the last couple of times eddie was Properly Separated™️ from buck for more than like 3 days consecutively, he

decided to join a fucking fight club before

having a full PTSD meltdown only buck was able to properly help him / chris thru

nuance note: yes i'm simplifying a bit. obviously there was a lot more going on with eddie than just buck not being around. esp in s5. but also. it's curious he was still able to hold together somewhat until he didn't when buck was gone. you see. i connected the dots.

What work took you the longest to write?

if we're counting ongoing WIPs that i'm actually still working on... dcmb has been crawling along since 2018. no i'm not crying who's crying because it's totally not me in terms of completed works, though, they call you refugee took the longest since the initial drafts were posted in december 2017 and the last chapter was posted in may 2022.

(what we can learn from this is that i'm very slow but i almost always get there eventually.)

@foolofatook001 you've activated my trap card allowed me to talk about my favorite thing which is world building!

my concept is that the fire nation changes dynasties periodically due to like... coups, lack of heirs, revolutions, what have you. and traditionally one of the big justifications for why so-and-so ought to be the new fire lord is they have a 'spirit wife' (or husband!) who represents the blessing of the spirit world.

many of these 'spirit wives' have just been ordinary humans with a shiny topcoat of propaganda. but. the thing is, with it being the atla universe, not all of them have. and which spirit wives were real vs fake depends on who you ask.

obviously katara is the former but most of the fire nation is convinced she's the latter. also maybe she is, actually, a little of a spirit bride given that she does legitimately have the blessing of the actual painted lady. so then what???

3AM zutara concept

after the war, katara takes up the mantle of the painted lady in the fire nation again because. idk. reasons. but she becomes so wildly popular and beloved that the common people start campaigning to make her fire lady.

you know what our fire lord needs? a spirit wife. i know usually those a reserved for new dynasties but i think he qualifies.

eventually katara gets strong armed into court - btw she's been missing for like 2 years at this point, don't worry about it - as The Chosen Spirit Bride of Our Beloved Monarch. zuko would do a spit take if he was drinking the calming tea uncle iroh keeps sending him. half his councilors are on board with this for saving political face / uniting the nation with feel-good propaganda and the other half of them see a golden opportunity for Treason (TM). and all of that is before katara stops an assassination attempt on zuko (it's the eighth this week) which just proves that he needs a spirit wife.

so now katara is the painted lady, the fire lord's (maybe?) fake fiancee, and also her best friend's bodyguard. zuko's very happy, very confused, and very unable to contain his "that's my wife fiancee best friend!!!" energy. there is only one bed.

the whole thing is giving tense political intrigue but make it romcom.

too many lol. i'm still working on dcmb for sheith. i've got the sequel / companion fic to they call you refugee + like 3 other zutara fics that are in some version of development. also a couple of buddie fics. also also a mass effect trilogy rewrite that's mostly an excuse to do lots of world building and gratuitous shakarian feels. i may or may not ever post it since the fandom is small and it's so self indulgent.

so that's uh...8 or 9?

gonna die on the hill that while buck is fine with his last name, he’s wanted almost from day one to be a diaz because to him the diaz boys are home. they’re in so many ways the only home that’s never hurt him. if he had the chance to leave behind all the burdens of being “the wrong buckley” to be a diaz he would do it in a heartbeat.

okay but can you imagine how jealous and insecure eddie is going to be now that the shoe's on the other foot. because he has a lot in common with tommy. so much in common. it's like buck is dating eddie but without the trauma*. you cannot tell me he's not going to obsess over the fact that buck's bi awakening is happening with "eddie but hold the baggage." that buck is going to learn muy thai not from eddie - the guy buck knew who did it first - but from tommy.

*big ole asterisk cos tommy may very well have plenty of his own trauma but obvs that hasn't come out yet

buck was very bothered and very bewildered but jesus christ after that kiss he was so HAPPY. like the clouds just parted and things made a little more sense. and now i have to cry about it for the rest of my life
