I kept hearing about this book and the catchy title. Also, I read it because it’s always available on Libby app. It’s actually a collection of short essays regarding environmental topics. On to my thoughts:

Actually don’t have much personal thoughts, just that I learnt interesting trivia that crabs are carnivorous and that’s why they are kept tied up at seafood shops, something I wondered casually but never bothered to dig deeper. I’m not a fan of crabs so this essay didn’t really speak out to me.

Okay, I had to do a double-take and add a new word to my vocab list. Lutrines = otters, not latrines which I was initially thinking of (major oof). Personally, I don’t really care much for the otters. Sure, they’re cute, but that’s it... and I agree that so much attention being put out on them by the public, government etc takes away attention from other species which need that awareness and attention.

I’m also reminded of plant-blindness regarding the conservation of species. Animal species get more attention than plants, somehow we just don’t pay as much attention even though they too have many good properties and are worth conserving.

Ah, this topic is more physical geography-related. It’s been a while xD

Learnt that it’s hard to trace the sources of sand and quantity etc used in Singapore’s land reclaimation projects since the information is not publicly available. Also talks about the forced resettlement of the original occupants during land reclaimation projects.

Wanted to go on a visit to Semakau last time when university organised a free tour but wasn’t able to make it, so I’ll just read about it. Besides the fact that the landfill is filling up much faster than expected. Semakau wasn’t an empty island, people were displaced. The formal GDP part, economical significance of creating the landfill vs the informal economy of the villagers before that... Singapore’s progress story also plays down the stories of those who were displaced in order for this success to occur. The knowledge lost due to displacement of indigenous communities.

Well, this book caught my eye 2 years ago when I saw it at the bookstore, and now I’ve finally gotten my own copy and finished reading it

The first book that I’ve sat down, notebook in hand, to scribble any salient points that this book may offer. It does make for an interesting and mildly amusing read.

Yes, I already knew deep down that my desire to avoid rejection and inability to say no outright, not to deal with rejection, to take the blame for stuff I didn’t do, and yet not dare to admit when I royally F up, haha yeah I’m not good that way

Sometimes you gotta do something before you get the motivation and inspiration. If you’re always waiting for motivation and inspiration to strike, you may be waiting for a very long time.. yeah that’s me

I take rejection and criticism really badly. cannot really control my emotions and reactions. still a work in progress, time to search for safe platforms to fail

Asserting and recognising boundaries... this needs work too. lol what boundaries do I have, I’m generally a pushover except when I’m being a stubborn prick (who isn’t able to articulate and communicate their reason/intent behind their actions)

What are the things that I care about? it’s still fuzzy but here are some that I am more definite on: - being a decent person to my existing friends, - personal finance and giving some back to charity (even if I’m kind of motivated because of the tax benefits, better to give than not at all) - trying to read non-fiction and news headlines at least so I have surface knowledge of the happenings around me (rather than not at all) - spending time with family (even if it’s routine/superficial) like grocery shopping

Well, there are some tips that I could learn and pick up, but I’m definitely going to disregard the way of thinking and constantly trying to ‘one-up’ others etc. It’s exhausting for my IQ and EQ if I really did this everyday; I just want to be happy and trust without overanalyzing every detail LOL.

Another thing, since I don’t really aim to be anything more than senior worker lmao... i don’t want too much work responsibilities, i feel i already have enough... but then, it could just be an inferior worker’s ramblings.. haha

we shall see... after all I’m still in the nascent stage of my career.
