AKIKOxRASMUS is a collaboration between Japanese artist Akiko Nakayama and German artist Rasmus Zschoch. They first met during the “Koumaria Residency” in 2016, where they started combining Akiko’s “Alive Painting” and Rasmus’ sound improvisation.
Akiko brings pictures to life in her “Alive Painting” work, by combining the energy of movement and the vibrance of colours, depicting the resonance between shapes and textures by using different types of liquids, each with a unique characteristic.
Rasmus’ work is grounded in ambient, drone and noise music. By using analogue sound sources and digital means of sound processing, he is able to improvise electronic music ‘organically’, combining classical harmony and accidental noises into a unique sonic image.
In their live performances, Akiko and Rasmus are drawn to the borders of their disciplines and the ability of communicating by art and information. They use contact microphones that record Akiko painting and a colour-organ system (“Fluid2wave”) to translate the colour information into sounds.
Their collaborative works are performances, audiovisual live shows, where the visual and the aural not only support and explain one another but transform into something new, that enters the mind through eye and ear simultaneously.
