This is a sideblog, and I follow back from my main @grimmusings. Please direct IMs there, since it's easier for me to keep all my messages on one blog. Nate is a canon character from Gossip Girl. All details vary based on verse, and I'm happy to write him into AUs and fandom crossovers. Please note that I'm happy to write with book characters, but I will not be pulling my adaptation from there.

"Is it that hard to believe I want to flirt with the prettiest girl in the room?"

He arched an eyebrow in return, smiling that typical charming Archibald smile. If he'd paused to think about it, he would have felt a little bad. In part, Nate had asked her because she was the bartender. Because even he could tell at a glance that her clothes weren't designer, even if she looked better in that dress than most girls looked in Chanel. He didn't care about that superficial shit--in the way it was easy not to care when he'd always had access to it--but he knew Blair would. If there was anyone in the room it would burn her to see him flirting with, it was the help.

But that was more critical thinking than Nate usually put into things. The truth was that she was pretty, and he was feeling petty enough after watching Blair try to rub his face in her new toy all night to want to get back at her, as long as he got to have fun at the same time. Doing shots with the gorgeous bartender would check both boxes.

"It's a deal. I'll even pay for your Uber home, in case I'm making you miss your ride." He gave a warm chuckle, offering a hand. "I'm Nate."

An eyebrow arched at his proposition, blue eyes roaming around. It wasn’t unlike her brother to cater to peolle of this caliber — the rich people. She was wearing a short, sparking dress that hugged every part of her in the best way and it was the type of outfit her brother would have thrown a jacket over her. Her blonde locks were neatly curled and pinned out of her face. Pouring drinks and getting tips from sleazy old men and getting looks from their wives was something that didn’t bother her. Having the money was nice, especially since she had gotten into her own apartment. But here, she still felt so strange being around people who had so much money. She could feel eyes focusing on the fact that her things weren’t name brand — the lack of red on the bottom of her shoes deemed them unimportant and lesser than. So when he approached her while she was getting her things ready to leave, she was surprised.

“Me? The bartender?”

Blue eyes flicked around for a moment — as if she were looking around for her brother. She was done with her shift, all of her tips were shoved into her bag. Her gaze settled over at him, eyes narrowing before she looked at him.

“…Fine. But you’re buying my drinks and tipping the staff well.”

It was possible Nate should have grown out of his pot-smoking habit in prep school, but it hadn't happened. It was still his favorite way to unwind, and university was stressful. It was no secret he'd never been the best student, and classes were even more demanding here. The pressure was off in other ways though. Family expectations were always going to be high for an Archibald, but separating himself from the Captain's in particular had done a world of good for Nate. He could breathe, at least, and he had a chance of figuring out who he was outside of that shadow.

So on a Thursday night when 80% of the campus was drinking in the same shitty bro bar, he typically preferred to crash at the penthouse and smoke with one or two close friends. It wouldn't impair him for Friday morning classes (not that he was incredibly concerned about those), and it did more to take the edge off the week for him than drinking ever had.

No question felt like a weird question at this point, and he squinted slightly at the ceiling pattern. "I think I'd believe in just about anything right now. Why, did you see something?" A hint of paranoia crept up, and he glanced around, like he was expecting to see a ghost observing them. The place wasn't that old. He didn't think anyone had ever died here, but he couldn't swear to it. Someone had probably died somewhere in the building.
