-You were a big help today. Thank you. -I was gonna thank you. -For what? Giving you a front-row seat to the limitations of modern medicine?

one of my favorite developing pieces of fanon is Mel and Samira being hot, socially awkward nerds together. I didn’t initially think of Samira that way in canon cause she’s very put together in dealing with patients, but after her frazzled “I don’t need a personal life” in the finale I can see it. Like, she’s devoted so much of herself to school and work that she never really gave herself space for a full social life.
So I totally buy Samira and Mel being each others fail wingwomen. Geeking out over medical research while making gulab jamun and discussing getting a personal life like it’s a puzzle to be solved. How do we get dates? We need a plan. Fire up Excel.

on rewatch it’s even clearer that robby is a great mentor to everyone, but he is a much better mentor to his male trainees. he argues with them less; he is more accepting of their diagnoses around difficult cases; he is more comfortable taking them under his wing. they rarely challenge him. it takes just that much more effort from the women of the pitt — mckay, collins, and mohan especially — to argue their point of view on patient care, especially around women’s issues. and that effort weighs on them! it’s exhausting for mohan to constantly defend herself on her care choices. it’s unfair to put blame on mckay for making an extremely understandable decision about david out of concern for his female classmates. his relationship with collins is inappropriate — at minimum it likely gets in the way of her professional development (note that langdon was the one recommended for that fellowship, without even asking robby for it).
i appreciate this writing choice a lot. robby is extremely likable and a compelling center of the story. he makes the right decision for his female patients many times, including giving a teenage girl a chance at reproductive freedom at personal risk. he’s supportive of the women in his department and wants them to do well.
but still. it’s there. and he doesn’t even know it.

The realism of Robby being a little bit of an unintentional misogynist is so, so important to me. Like he is a good boss and a great teacher, he is friends with women and works with women and teaches women and respects women greatly. And yet—it’s Langdon, and then Whitaker, who Robby adopts as his mentees. It’s David, not the girls on the kill list, who Robby prioritizes care for. It’s the dad accused of grooming his daughter who Robby refuses to report, while informing the authorities about the mother drugging him without a second thought. He reams Langdon out for berating Santos, but doesn’t check in on Santos until Langdon refuses to let it go and Robby becomes suspicious of there being an actual problem.
And obviously we are seeing Robby on the worst day of life, and maybe even calling him a “little bit of a misogynist” is a bit too much because he’s not, really. But he does have ingrained biases and he does seem to only be able to fully see himself in and completely empathize with other men. And that is just. So true of even the nicest, kindest, most wonderful and feminist men I know.

i think there's a very compelling read of young daniel as, like, gay, and somewhat more comfortable in this fact than old daniel -- cf. the immediate willingness to sleep with louis, the gay voice, the gay mannerisms that old daniel lacks -- against old daniel as a vaguely homophobic terminal closet case -- the slightly derogatory manner with which he calls armand the 'rent boy' or refers to lestat and armand as louis' 'boyfriends,' the making excuses for being in a gay bar ("it was a good place to score, i did what i had to") it's muted but it's there -- and the kind of character work you can eke out of someone who at some point had some willingness to act on his homosexuality & then lost that through a presumed compound of forces that includes in no small amount the encounter with louis that night. he thought that he + louis had sex! however i think it's infinitely funnier to say that armand brainwashed him so hard he forgot he was gay for fifty years

I love when they are both fighters that have each others back and it was all about this dynamic and how well they fit into them??? Their shooter/hand-to-hand combo gets me every time. They are destined to keep each other safe.
I also wanted to add that with button pins I wanted to specifically create more basic klance pieces - that won't be directly connected to canon - but will remind you of all their personality traits that make you miss them. Idk how many of you experienced the same, but even though of course canon had its heartbreaks, it was sad to watch the loved and cherished parts of it die along with them. I'm very grateful so many still celebrate them <3 mmezzy.bigcartel.com
