I went legit two years ago

I had no idea it’d been this long since I got rid of every scrap of recast resin in my house. I didn’t make a lengthy post at the time, basically a short note that I was selling all recast dolls and going legit because I wanted to be 110% happy with my collection.

I took the money from selling those dolls and directly reinvested every penny and more into the BJD community by purchasing directly from obscure one-person doll sculptors and second-hand from collectors, and of course I continue to buy from larger companies too. I also actively promote purchasing from small artists that don’t get much exposure over on BJD-Finds, my BJD shopping blog. 

I’ve never felt better about my collection - they’re 100% legit and no compromises. I think what started to change my mind about recasts was the very first post from someone who offered complete acceptance of anyone wanting to go legit.  But it feels like the stigma of having once owned recasts still follows me, even though I thoroughly regret buying them and have changed my mind because I was wrong, and publicly posted owning that wrongness.

There’s an indelible internet footprint of me once having owned recasts, but I’ve done what I can to delete every recast from all my accounts years ago. But because of that persisting history, I imagine that one short post about going legit and a statement of my collection being legit-only in my rather out of date doll collection list doesn’t get noticed.

I just wanted to put these few scraps of thoughts out there in the public sphere as much as possible. I’m so apprehensive to talk about it because of the inevitable bad opinion of me in the BJD community. 

Basically, if anyone felt like reblogging this or sharing it around to let the BJD community know that my dolls are legit only, that would be really cool of you ^^;

Okay but can we agree on a few things?

In light of the pro-artist list going around, stupid arguments pro recasts are surfacing again.

We have our differences and my personal view is, I just don’t really want to associate with pro-recasters. And that’s my prerogative, just as it is theirs to not want to associate with me for that same reason. I’m fine with that. It’s better if we not annoy each other, right?

Now first of, it is NEVER okay to send death threats. Don’t harass people. It gets you nowhere and it won’t make you feel better. It’s not the way to go. If anything, try to educate. Stay kind.

Second, @bjdrecastpositive just compared this situation to horrible racism, bigotry and misogyny. You simply cannot compare the pro and anti sides to the hardships darkskinned people have gone through (especially in America). Black people got lynched and killed for the color of their skin. The LGBTQ community has suffered many losses because of the way they were born. Women have suffered all sorts of abuse because they were not born as men.

You, for owning recasts, do not fall in any of these groups.

You were not born a thief. You made a choice. You made a very conscious choice (I’m speaking very generally here because there are some who bought one by accident, who have switched over etc) to buy a recast, to support recasters and to NOT support the original artist! You made the choice to put your LUXURY needs before the livelihood of another person.

You are not oppressed, you put yourself in that position, in a hobby where creativity is everything and the ARTISTS make these dolls.

Morals will never change to accept thievery and they will remain to support artists, because there will always be more who see the value in artists.

what the hell is a “legit community” anyways? There is no such thing as a legit community when all dolls from bjd companies are legit dolls. This community is built upon the hard work and effort of artists, sculptors and their doll companies not recasts. How can you celebrate recasts when they’ve destroyed the very meaning of collecting these dolls?

Anti-recast people are the number one turn-off for buying legit dolls. Given the amount of hate that they hurl against recast owners or past recast owners, I really just prefer keeping my recasts and gtfo of legit community.

I was tempted to buy this head because JIMIN bc I’m army trash but I was too late _(:3」∠)_

I know most of you guys don’t follow me for doll-related things but my friend, @crescendocomplex and I preordered Sunho (aka Jimin) and I’m excited? I haven’t purchased or gotten anything doll-related since last January.
