this is what I meant to get at about ever after high: because everything was SO dressy there was no quantifiable difference between signature Apple and Legacy Day Apple. There was nowhere to go and the designs didn't really bother to introduce new special motifs or directions aside from gown length.

not to be like a monster high lover or anything (lmao) but let's compare Frankie Steins signature and first special doll (DotD) to Apples signature and first special doll (Legacy Day)

Frankie's first signature established her aesthetic as a dark prep/goth schoolgirl:

note: I still love this doll. Note how dark overall this doll is; the plaid is dark and her accessories are dark.

Now her first special doll, dawn of the dance:

note the design elements that remained consistent from her signature; the black and white stripe and mesh fishnet, have been remixed into a lightning bolt pattern and hot pink tights. the dark teal and red plaid are now neon and eye-catching. This looks like Frankie's outfit, but its clearly the special Frankie, and the effect is that Frankie's style has been expanded.

Now Apple.

She really is a gorgeous doll. Her dress is made up of 5 different fabrics, all of them shiny, with 3 different patterns, all in white, red and gold, plus tulle ruffles. The doll and outfit is lovely, but because it's so grandiose already, a bigger leap is required to make the special doll more special

I'll concede that the ld doll did away with the pink, but the vibe here is VERY similar. The fabrics and patterns are almost exactly the same, the details (pearls, bows) are the same, the colors are the same. The effect is that this doll is wearing the same dress but long.

DotD Frankie's look is nowhere nearly as grand, but it feels more special by comparison to her signature and establishes a broader style and point of view. My distinction is that Frankie's looks are two pieces from the same collection, while Apple's looks are reinterpretations of each other.

Ngl, I didn't know who Paul Bunyan is, I had to google it (I'm not from the US lol). Also, I don't love the greek mythology thing (specially since G1 MH always did greek myths creatures like Deuce, Manny and Iris lol), but I do think it's curious that EAH never did a another greek mythology character in the same vein as Cupid, but it was probably for the best lol

The Ever After High books having Clara Lear, (the daughter of King Lear) being an actual character was so random. It has lots of weird implications about her family story and it also confirms the existence of Shakespeare plays in the EAH universe LMAO

What if I say that late 2000s/early 2010s Barbie shares lots of problems with MH G1 in terms of design and quality and most fans are not going to accept it because the nostalgia blinds them (and I say this as someone who has lots of fondness for that era and likes G1 MH).
