Week 11 Response

The black and white color with the galaxy all put together is a really great combination. The way it seems as though you are traveling through time as well with how every image and video is scales up is really unique and goes with the speech in the background really well. There are even parts where the audio changes a bit to correlate to the image on the screen. For example, there was an image of a baby and you can hear a faint baby's cry in the background. I believe this form of animation is effective because it is so chaotic yet organized in a dream-like way which is what I think the artist was going for. It is an embodiment of dreams.

ILS TOURNENT EN ROND - Extract by Boris Labbé
In this animation, there are a lot of things going on but I don't think it takes away from the animation as a whole. I like how to artist is using only themself in the collage and theres still so much going on. I also like how each person is unique and no one seems to be doing they same thing. The uniqueness of each character also adds a lot to the overall expressiveness of the film. I would go on and say that many stories are being told in this film and it's hard to keep track.

Legal Smuggling with Christine Choy by Tall Glass with Ice
I really like the way they transitioned from one scene to another. For example, in once scene, you see Christine Choy talking about her specific brand of cigarettes and how to get them for cheap and then see the taxi cab go across the screen and go to a scene where she's at a terminal. I also really like the use of cotton balls as smoke, its very creative. This animation is very effective and shows everything Ms. Choy is talking about in great detail. Very nice story.

I really liked how they made the UK blow up like C02 and how they represented the amount of carbon using elephants. Thats a great way to show how much carbon is being used each year through an analogy. They definitely got their point across through this animation by showing the audience how carbon is the effecting the planet. It was very effective in getting the point across because there was no hidden innuendos and it was very clear and to the point.

In this animation, I see a lot of shapes and no text which is very interesting considering that most informative videos include text in some way shape or form. They also use a circus to describe how the customer may be feeling which is a great environment to show certain obstacles a customer may feel like they are facing. The video uses only 3 colors as well which makes it less busy color wise. The story being told through this animation was very effective and I can tell what comparisons they are making through every metaphor.

Giving me a chance, A music video for Gotye by Nacho Rodriguez
In this music video, there is a lot of morphing from one object to the next in a fluid way. You can also see some object such as the grass in the beginning isn't just regular blades of grass but there are human heads mixed in with it as well. Everything seems to be hand draw but also cut out of a magazine, it is very unique. The story seems to be of a character, maybe a knight, chasing after his body parts after he splits apart after a bad fall. The storytelling is actually effective but sort of hard to follow since there is a lot of movement happening everywhere in the music video. All in all, it does a very good job of showcasing the music.

Video-https://www.artofthetitle.com/title/severance/ Severence Title Sequence by Oliver Latta In this film intro, I really liked how a human figure was the object being used for almost everything. The human figure would morph into so many different consistencies and substances and that made it seem less realistic. The way the human moved was through each scene was also really cool. The way the story is being told through this sequence is effective in showing how the main characters mind works. You can also get the gist of what the show may be about thanks to this unique title sequence.

Week #3 Reflection
Video - https://vimeo.com/18060393 Stop Motion for the opening of Citytunneln / City of Malmö by SNASK
In this stop motion film I see a lot of paper being used. The paper goes in and out of the table and at one point it even looks 3d when the second person is answering yes or no to the invitation. The way they depicted getting mail was really cool and very effective in showing the storyline. I like how I still understood what was going on even though the text on the paper wasn't in English. The act of getting a present was elevated in this film because of the sound effects as well.

Link - https://vimeo.com/22683330 Reflection # 2 The Schwarzenegger Trilogy by Harry McGowan I really liked the beginning section when it pans from the guys face to the counting down of what looks to be cards. The explosion after the fact was very colorful as well which made it unique. The use of highlighter colors really complements the short film and I believe it adds range. The facial expressions of all the characters was spot on as well and very detailed. All in all, it came together very nicely and it felt like I was watching a movie.

Week 1 Reflection
Video- https://vimeo.com/18881166 Jam by Mirai Mizue When I watched this animation, I immediately thought of a fever dream. It's like an out of body / out of world experience. The vibrant colors and constant movement provide a very hectic feeling that is sort of inviting. There appears to be no concise story behind this but it does seem to follow a pattern of evolution. The sounds that go with the visuals help a lot in shaping what Mizue is trying to portray. In this animation itself, I believe that the story behind this animation is pretty vague but very unique and captivating.
