5 Tips for a Better Doggy Instagram
- Alan Adame
In todays world a mans best friend, a doggy, is not considered a pet but another member of the family that merits equal if not more attention, love and recognitions. I am the type of person that would have a full on conversation with my dogs, because sometimes you just need someone to listen without giving any input or interrupting while conversing. I guess you could say I am more of a dog person, and love sharing the life of my doggies and bragging about them like any parent would do with their child. So that brings us to the main topic of this blog, how to use social media and all the perks and tools that come with it to brag about your fur-children.
In five simple and easy steps, I am going to show you how to setup your fur-babies with an Instagram account, what to post and how to post it, what will work and what won't. And finally what will get your fur-children the attention that they need and deserve on the “Sosh Meeds” aka social media, leading to an increase in following and engagement from your doggie’s fans.
Step 1. Setting up an Instagram Account
If you don't have the Instagram app on your smartphone device click on the link bellow and it will redirect you to where you can download the app.
For iOS/Apple: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/instagram/id389801252?mt=8
For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.instagram.android&hl=en_US
Once the app has been downloaded to your account, setting up an account is supper easy, all you need is an email and to follow the prompt on Instagram on how to set up an account, and voila you have yourself an instagram account.
Next once you have set up your account, think of a clever username/handle that embodies your doggy. It can be either their name or a nickname, but remember to be creative as this will cause your future followers to want to click on your account and view it, and that's what we want, we want something that is clickable and creates traffic or engagement.
After putting your creativity hat on and thought of a good username, get your phone and start taking pictures of your doggie, as we will need one good photo for their profile. When you have taken too many pictures and your phone is out of memory that when you know you have taken enough and you can stop and chose from the precious pictures for the profile. Once you have chosen a picture fill in the about me section, make sure you include who your doggie (s) is (are) and something the like to do our eat. Make sure to write it like a third grader and grammar errors are required. Hahaha
And just like that, you are a step closer to completing your fur-children instagram.
Step 2. What to post and how to post it.
For starters, your first post should always be an introduction post. Showing who your doggie is in all their glory being candid and having fun.
If your doggie is a puppy make sure to post regular updates about their growth and how they are acting and what they like to do at the moment. Posting goofy picture is always going to get the most attentions.
Make sure that the picture you are taking are high quality and high resolutions to give the best rendition when posting, because good pictures get more attention and more attention equals possible followers.
When posting a good picture, like we stated earlier, make sure to pair it with a clever caption that really brings the picture to life. a good guideline to the length of a instagram post is, if you have to click on more to continue reading your post is too long and people really font have a long attention span when it comes to reading posts. Another key factor when posting is to use Hashtags, the use of hashtags is going to increase the reach of your post to more than just your followers, which in turn creates more engagement.
Step 3/4. What will work and what won't.
Knowing if a post will work is not a simple task, but if you know who your audience is and you depict your voice in a very clear way knowing what will work will become easier with time.
To begin, you just have to test the waters. Post at least every day at different times to know when your post will get the most engagement and to see when the best time to post is. Once you begin to analyze what your followers are liking and what is getting more traffic and at what times setting a posting schedule is going to be easy.
Now, let go back to the whole “Knowing you Audience” this has to be one of the most important thinks to understand when it come to social media, truly understanding who your audience is and what they like and what they don't like and what makes them want to stop and read a post. This kind of knowledge is going to give you a greater understanding as to the content that is going to for you.
The you test the waters and begin to post, you find out what works and what doesn't and if you stick to what is working for you and keep testing new things and ideas that will get you to where you want to go, in terms of your doggie instagram.
Step 5. Be yourself!
Many instagram account that feature doggies tend to be what kids now a days call a poser. Someone that over exaggerates their day to day life and are not genuine with their followers. And that is something that your audience will call you out on if you are being fake with them and not showing who you truly are. So always post picture that really show your doggies in a fun down to earth way and that will get you the following and audience that will last a life time!
