i know that some part of me will never get over how normalized all the hate liam got is. or how watered down what he went through was. i feel like every single person on this app is so so quick to sympathize with drivers like esteban, lance, jack, etc and are so quick to defend them against online hate, rightfully so. but what liam went through both online and what he faced in the sport is so just forgotten about.

there were so many reports of liam being pretty much depressed at the china gp from REDBULL employees. he wasn’t “chipper” anymore. he only spoke when spoken to. if it wasn’t that, he was just apologizing for being bad. no rookie should have to do that. no rookie should be getting death threats.

i mean, it was impossibly not to physically see what it was all doing to him. he was quiet and actually did just look depressed. eye bags, messy hair, THOSE photos. and then there’s hannah, his girlfriend, commenting and liking videos where people were saying he was being treated like shit (but were happy she was there to help him through it, thanks @isacksteban)

but yeah i don’t understand how it’s so untalked about. maybe im not seeing the content.

i can’t remember who said it, but marc’s most important tool in his toolbox (of which there are many; his low grip clairvoyance, tire management, how he slides on his back tire, his racecraft, having a fat ass, etc.) is how quickly he can shift on a dime. riders and driver spend a ton of time visualising exactly how they need the first corner, first lap to go, they run their brains into the ground doing this it until it becomes true. which is where insane turn 1 confidence comes from, this is how we get max verstappen in imola 2025. but when something goes wrong it can be very hard to react in the handful of milliseconds you have to understand this new reality. marc’s reaction times are so fucking crazy that not only was he able to reach across his bike with the wrong hand (like an idiot) to turn on the launch control he was able to react within milliseconds to the race start, fall back to 8th before turn 1, slice through the pack to take 3rd by turn 4, and then retake 1st by the end of lap 4. insane insane insane in the membrane. i’m as serious as a dead man when i say his gray matter should be studied because something is whack in there
