Fieldwork #5
Cultural Adaptation
Birth control is a big part of cultural adaptation. Birth control is used to temporarily prevent periods and also to stop sperm from fertilizing the egg. Birth control effects natural selection by allowing females to choose if they want to get pregnant or not. This happened when females wanted another option other than condoms. Also It reduces periods and the pain of periods. This impacted humans because It took away the beauty of being selected by “nature” to have a child but It brought more confindence in women being able to choose their own future.

Language and Gender in the class room
Fieldwork Assignment Ch. 4
This week for my field work assignment I decided to observe the people In my History class. I counted 15 men & 11 women. This class was the discussion section so I tallied that men spoke 26 times and women spoke 18 times. I tallied every single time someone said a word so It was a pretty quiet class. People usually spoke for about 10-15 seconds most questions were one word answers but when there was an explanation needed, people used about 12-19 words. The men spoke more slowly than the women. Then women seemed more confident and more convincing with what they are saying. The instructor was a women. The instructor was very engaged with the class. She was walking through the seats and asking us direct questions. She was kind of talking to us like we were her friend. Her body language was very energetic. Telling us secrets about our main instructor is what stuck out to me. The instructor called on men 7 more times than women. She kept calling the same man though. The instructor didn’t seem to be influenced to call on a certain gender. She seemed more motivated to get the class engaged in the discussion.

Mapping A Block Fieldwork Assignment
The location I chose was a local auto shop by my fathers workplace. I heard a lot of noise coming from the shopping center so I walked over and heard people speaking different languages. So the foreign language drew me to the area. When I walked in I found an waiting area for me to sit and observe. Beside me was a lady who looks like she jus got off of work or maybe she was on break. But she was dressed in a scrub with her phone in her hand. I could tell she was in a rush or was getting Impatient. I looked the a Honda Accord lifted up on the car lift. I could tell the car was just lifted because I could hear the compressors running. I was confused when I noticed the mechanic had no help. He was just in the booth by himself and no one touched the car on the lift. This went on for an hour. The next day when I drove by the shop. I noticed that the car on the lift was gone and there were two more workers in the shop that day. There were three in total but I noticed that one didn’t have a uniform on. He was probably the boss.

Culture of Consumerism
Listing out everything I own makes me realize how privileged I really am. What really made me see is when I added up the prices of my shoes. I think we buy all these things to stay in the loop. Social media plays a big part in consumerism. With trying to follow all the trends companies capitalize on that and look to social media on how to keep expanding their brands. Listing out my items and pricing them made me second guess my part in consumerism. But at the end of the day if what I am buying is bettering my life then I am all for it.

Hip Hop Phenomenon
The Hip Hop Phenomenon is an worldwide thing but all influences come from America particularly African Americans. The beliefs of Hip Hop is that the best MC has to have to best melodies, rhymes, and punchlines. In the industry Nas is looked as one of the greatest rappers of all time, but if you were to ask someone on the street they'd say otherwise. Hip Hop is an open thing that invites any race, gender, etc. Some people who do hip hop are more cocky then regular people. That brings me to values. Hip Hop artist value status and the way they are seen. They tend to create the image they want the world to see. Hip Hop is used as a way to express yourself in ways you normally couldn't. Hip Hop has record labels such as YMCMB, Interscope Records, OVO Records and many more. Hip Hop also has many clothing brands among artist and company. Material wise hip hop artist get the most expensive jewelry, tattoos, clothing, shoes, everything. Hip hop artist are the most materialistic people in the hip hop culture.

Fieldwork Assignment #1 : Globalization and my Toothbrush
History of Toothbrush
A toothbrush is a tool used to clean your tooth to prevent diseases and to keep a healthy, fresh mouth. There are two types of toothbrushes, the manual and the electric toothbrush.
Toothbrushes are made of nylon bristles with rubber grips on a plastic molded base. They are grouped in clumps around 40 tuffs folded over a metal staple. Toothbrushes contain 2,500 bristles.
The first toothbrushes were invented in China in during the seventeenth century. Until the early 1900s bristles were made of hog hair until Oral- B started making soft bristled brushes. Mass production toothbrushes didn’t start until the 20th century. Toothbrushes were not used daily until after WWII. The U.S army forced soldiers to practice these habits and they brought it home with them.
Brushing your teeth is a very good habit. It doesn't matter if you floss or brush first as long as you do it thorough. Brushing your teeth prevents periodontal diseases which is bacteria building up in the mouth. Brushing my teeth makes me feel better about myself and more confident in everything I do.
Toothbrushes are made in factories and are shipped to distributors in crates.
