NO SURPRISE I WAS THRILLED ABOUT THE EXTENDED LEIA REF. that is so her, to step in and cover for hera in any way she can.

let alone... her being head of the defense council???? trying to keep the new republic safe and secure amidst its disarmament? all while likely believing that thrawn or some other imperial power could consolidate and prove a threat? so SO HER.

to then use that position to help hera, considering friendship, considering comradery, considering just a belief in the truth of it all as hera sees it? SO LEIA.

i do wish they'd just recast billie in the role again, sans cgi, and let us have the wonder that is senator leia organa roar to life on screen.

                           moisture clung to the back of her hand as leia drew it across her brow, sinking onto the elaborately carved bench which thankfully appeared around one well-appointed garden turn.   painted lips curved earthward, a soft, chiding voice which sounded much like one of her late aunts echoing in her head.    ( you wouldn’t be sweating now if you had simply not run.   what princess sprints across a garden? )    grimace deepening, the senator allowed herself the most ungraceful of all movements: a full slump, leaning against the sturdy back.

                           relishing in how the relief stone bit through her thin gown into her spine, she let her head tip skyward.   this, this was something real, unlike every interaction since she opened her heavy lids this morning.   what was keeping her here?

                           obligation.

                           the same which kept the mantle of alderaan’s senator upon her shoulder, which led some tens of thousands of beings to still declare her princess even though nothing of their world remained.   the role which made her so attractive a candidate to the queen mother.   what could be more prestigious a match than to an heir presumptive who could never have total loyalty to their throne… because their throne no longer existed.

                           the faint brush of a mind against her expanded senses functioned like a fly caught on a spider’s web, leia straightening, composing herself into something merely mildly tired in a heartbeat.   just in time for one of the hapan courtiers to round the grassy bend.   out of no obligation to rise, the hint of a smile faded onto her lips, easily cloaking herself in sheepish chagrin.

Star Wars Legends - Leia Organa (Solo)

                           fingertips brushed over the flow of velvety crepe, arranging folds as the senator strode into the crimson corridor.   a mask overlaid her features of her own design, a blankness which revealed nothing besides a potential hint of boredom.   it would be perfect, impenetrable… if not for the sparking fury which lit her irises.   fury, it raced through her veins, that burning chill which fueled the thunder of her push in her ears.   hardly was she not aware of the slip, a few lingering, almost startled glances oh so telling.

                           she prayed to the stars it frightened enough to keep everybeing far away.

                           this was useless, beyond useless, a mockery of what the senate stood for.   to hear such a well organized and well argued set of facts from a bipartisan coalition of senators, evidence which pointed to an extension of agricultural programs for a mere pittance, a great need which united several systems at least nominally under imperial control, to simply dismiss it?   all her work, she had to simply stand silent, obedient, as the emperor himself all but dumped the legislation over into the coruscant abyss.   no, no, he could not have destroyed the possibility more thoroughly if the only copy was upon an ancient parchment, palpatine setting fire to it in front of the entire senate chamber.

                           oh, how she hated him, despised his very existence, if she could burn this-

                           at the sight of the stomach-churningly icy, pitch black figure storming in the opposite direction of the corridor, the princess’ steps nearly faltered, but what was the use of it?   whatever he was here for certainly could have nothing to do with herself, and she had far too much damage control to begin to dally because of mere sith intimidation.   and thus, she kept on, her one concession to her ire at the empire being a determination to not even glance at the dark lord, no acknowledgement, when they inevitably passed.   none of them deserved her respect, not one.

                          the force was with him.   that was the only apt conclusion she could draw from the success of his reckless actions or as han once named it: blind luck.   though no stranger to harebrained schemes, there weren’t the sort she chose to encourage, not unless it were the last recourse.   everybeing’s luck failed eventually, and here, on the battle line, such a shift often ended in death.       ❝  my allowing your squadron its head hardly means that i’ve dropped the reins, poe.  ❞       russet gaze remained fixed upon his chagrin lacked, a drawn out, sigh punctuated, shake emphasizing the disappointment inlaid.       ❝  if it hadn’t worked, and it almost didn’t, it would have been a disaster.   not a setback, a disaster.   and those odds are not ones you should be in the habit of betting on.  ❞

he does manage to look at least slightly chagrined by her reprimand, but the way he shifts his weight between his feet and his eyes still sparkle show that he does not actually regret his actions. rash as they may have been , they had worked. "the ship didn't find the base though, did it?" he shrugs, the very picture of a pilot, certain of his skills. "i'm sorry i didn't wait for permission, truly, but it worked."

ahsoka spoilers under the cut

seriously thrilled about the leia mention. even more thrilled that leia was clearly covering for hera and further showing the connection that grew between them! i imagine that she did keep it from mon, but mon likely had some measure of an idea of what was going on. after all, mon has known leia since she was born. i imagine leia still gets dressed down because, of course she does, and she takes it and then gives her reasons for doing so, but she absolutely owns up to it.

i just love that about leia, that she will always own up to her choices, especially when they blow up in her face.
