No one can tell what goes on in between the person you were and the person you become. No one can chart that blue and lonely section of hell. There are no maps of the change. You just come out the other side. Or you don't.Stephen King

Imagine Chimney going through Bobby's desk in his office. Having to clear personal things out. It breaks his heart, but also warms him because the captain was sentimental.
Then he comes across a small blue book labeled simply "Buck." Curious, he opens and flips through it.
Kid has eating problems. Will forget to eat when stressed. Feed him, and encourage him to cook, because he likes to taste-test a lot.
Chimney remembers that. Buck mentioning getting so hungry the starving pains go away. He does remember during the shitty times when Buck lost so much weight.
-Loves carbs
-Hates Okra
-Probably allergic to shellfish and mangos. Encourage him to get an allergy test
-Allergic to Naproxen
-Allergic to heavy fragrance laundry detergents. Use gentle.
-Remind him he's doing a great job. Use positive reinforcement.
-If he's depressed, as Maddie says, hand him a child. May and Harry work too.
-He's finally gaining weight! :)
-The Buckley parents are banned. Do not ask why. Firehouse is his safe area.
-He fidgets when he's stressed. Have him chop some vegetables or prepare them for you. He loves being helpful.
-He loves his clipboard. Have him organize important events. Give him gold stars. Do not let Hen and Chimney hide it. He gets sad.
-Remind him not to read too close or in the dark. He's gonna need glasses at this point. (If he does, don't let others tease him. Tell him he looks great)
-He doesn't admit it, but his leg still bothers him. Heating blankets are in the closet in the office. Have Eddie massage his leg or send him home early if he's obviously struggling.
Chim laughs. He laughs, and laughs, and starts to cry. Of all things, he did not expect to find a "How to Take Care of Your Buck" guide hidden away in Bobby's desk.

Just my little idea/hc for the first episode of s9.
It opens with all the 118 folks getting ready for work. We see Buck in his new place, finishing up breakfast and putting his dishes in the sink. We see him go into a garage and pull out his truck and in the corner of the garage we see a lift.
The ep goes as routine as usual, we see Chimney getting used to being captain. We see Hen and Eddie trying to find their routine with each other as partners again. Ravi and Buck work together as partners too and it's going better than with Hen and Eddie. Not to mention Hen and Ravi are both a little worried about Buck and Eddie no longer being friends like they used to (Hen and Chimney are more worried than Ravi, Ravi has more of a "they're both adults" attitude about it). Cue the big emergency that takes up the rest of the episode.
It's a grueling big emergency that has all the firefighters shaking and tired.
Chimney is worn out and emotionally exhausted but he tries to give the team an uplifting speech.
At the end of the episode, we see the each of the firefighters return home in the morning. Chimney holding his son and his daughter napping on his arm. Hen getting her kids ready for school as Karen kisses her goodbye so she can go to her lab. Ravi face planting into his bed as his girlfriend teases him about working too hard. Eddie watches his son go off on the bus. And Buck opens the door to his house and smells the breakfast waiting for him.
He sees Tommy sleeping on the couch and tiredly falls on top of him. Tommy says nothing and just holds him closer and kisses the top of this head.
"Five minutes?" Buck asks, already his eyes are closed, he's already dozing off.
"Take as long as you need."

How I think the Buck&Athena Roommates era would have gone:
"Yeah I'm not doing that," Tommy says, when Buck walks him through the twelve step plan he has in place to sneak him out.
"Tommy."
And that's quite the whine. The pout is cute, and Tommy wants to bite his lower lip, make sure he feels it later, but he's not backing down from this.
Tommy can't remember why the hell they'd decided to come back here, instead of going back to his place.
Falling back into bad habits, maybe.
Except he's been fucking trying not to let that happen.
"As thrilling as it would be to finally play out those rebellious teenage years I missed out on, I am not scaling a trellis, Evan."
"It's sturdy!"
"You've tested it?"
Evan ducks his head, and Tommy shakes his own, sifting his fingers through the short hairs above Evan's ear.
"You wanna get B-Shift called in to Athena's house? Because that's how you get B-Shift called to Athena's house."
The knock on the door startles them both. Athena's voice on the other end has Evan ducking beneath the covers like a scolded child, and it's so fucking adorable Tommy wants to do something insane like whisk him away to Vegas for a quickie wedding.
"Is Tommy joining us for breakfast, Buck?"
Buck glances up at him and Tommy has to marvel at the fact that he isn't freaking out about the idea of being hidden away, kept a secret. It's not about hiding Tommy, really, just a little mortification at the idea of Athena knowing Evan has a guest she wasn't aware of ahead of time. Ridiculous, considering what he was like as a probie. But he's grown. Changed.
"Tommy makes a mean pancake," Tommy calls out, and grins at the faux betrayal on Evan's face.
"Athena will start the coffee," she murmurs back, wry tone in place, and raps her knuckles against the door as her footsteps fade down the hallway.
