“It’s not that bad.” he assured her, “Still much better then what I could do, my sister got all the artistic talent.” he added with a small smile. 

“It is a few lines combined in something that is supposed to be my face..” She told him with a little chuckle leaving her lips. “It is horrible..”

Aleksi looked down, blushing slightly. “I just ... he hurt Jamison too. Maybe if he hadn’t, maybe this all never would have happened ... he shouldn’t get away with that.” he said softly. “I just, I keep thinking that ... maybe if I’d said something before, maybe he never would have done it...”

Evan was hurt by his brothers words, and although he wanted to put a end to all the stuff people were saying the truth was he couldn’t. It was impossible, because once something like this was out there, it was out there. “I’m glad you had the guts to stand up for yourself, Aleksi. That makes me so proud of you, after everything you’ve been going through. for you to be able to do that just shows how strong you are, even though you may not think so yourself.”

“It’s okay. I was just ... wondering what you were looking for. Can you see it?”

“Oh um…sorry, just trying to see Jupiter tonight, didn’t mean to scare you”

Aleksi nodded carefully, “I’m really sorry that people treat you like that.” he said sincerely, “Um, I hope you’re right though. Maybe they’ll forget about what happened with me and you soon, nd we can just ... go back to normal. Or something like normal.”

“Kind of refreshing actually. Almost everyone who grew up in this small town knows my name. Most of them think they know me because of it, too.” He gave a slight shrug. They didn’t know anything. “It’s not so bad now. Generally, I stay out of their way and they stay out of mine. It’s…given me time to focus on school if nothing else.” Aaron was silent for a moment. “That’s the thing about this town…they don’t focus on much for long. Soon some new thing will pop up.”

“Oh, I couldn’t see from over here.” he said, moving over to her so he could see what she was looking at, “It’s not that bad, a lot better then I could do.”

“I don’t know.. I tired to make a self portrait but I guess I failed..”

Aleksi nodded, smiling softly, “Yeah, it kind of sucks. But you get used to it all eventually.” he told her, “It’s down this way, actually, not far. Where are you from?”

“Then you must know what I feel like..” She chuckled. “Nice to meet you, I am Sydney.”

Aleksi nodded slowly, “I told Michael, at the hospital after the shooting. Once we knew Emily was okay. And he took me to tell my parents, and um, to report it.” he said, closing his eyes against the memory of that night. “I wish everyone would just forget about, I didn’t ... I didn’t want everyone to know. Even if they believed it, I wouldn't want them to know.”

Evan understood why his brother had kept this a secret. It was hard having people believe something like this. Especially if it was just going to be a word against another. Evan looked at his brother. “No, you are not stupid!” Evan told him. “You were scared, and.. He scared you! It would be hard having people not believe you about something like that.. I mean.. I don’t.. I can’t believe you had to keep it a secret for so long.” He told Aleksi. “Of course I believe you, Aleksi.” He confirmed. “Have you.. Told your parents?”

I just kind of ...wandering. My sister’s in a dance class, but I don’t have to pick her up for an hour.

Oh, uh, hey. What are you up to?

“Oh.” Aleksi said, blushing. “Sorry, I uh, I guess I’m kind of out of the loop? Um, I hope things get better for you though.” he said honestly before glancing down himself, “Hopefully they won’t. Maybe they’ll just get bored or something.”

Aaron glanced down. “Uh, no, it’s kind of public knowledge around here. I was in the joint for a while. Coming home was kind of…rough in some aspects.” He let out a sharp breath through his nose. “They keep giving you trouble, you let me know.”

Yeah, I just, um, I said hi?

Aleksi nodded, “Yeah, I get that. I was the new kid last year.” he said with a small shrug, “Um, I’m Aleksi, by the way, It’s nice to meet you.”

Sydney locked her eyes onto the boy in front of her, offering a shy smile in return. “Would you? Gah, thanks. I have only been here for a short time, but I still find myself getting lost more than usual.”

Aleksi bit his lip tightly, even as relief flooded through him. Evan believed him. He might not know the whole story, but he believed him. “Nobody knew.” he said softly, blinking back the tears in his eyes as he tried to reassure Evan that he couldn’t have done anything, “I, um, I never told anybody not until ... after the shooting. He said nobody would believe me, and I guess ... I was stupid.” he admitted, still unable to make eye contact as he nervously rubbed them hem of his shirt in his fingers. “But I guess he wasn’t all that wrong, cause people at school ... they figured it out, and a lot of them think I was lying, or I, um, I wanted it.” he managed to say. He took in a deep breath before glancing back up at his brother, carefully gauging his reaction. “I didn’t want it, he ...” he trailed off, “You believe he?”  he asked in small voice, needing to be sure.

Evan was not a huge fan of rumors. And especially after things like this, one would have to be careful as to what one believed. This situation was no different. Evan could tell by the tone in Aleksi’s voice, by the way he shaped his words, formulated himself, that something was wrong. It did not take long before his heart began to increase its speed in his chest. The blood pumped through his veins, and he swallowed a lumps which grew in his throat. He hurt me. Those words was all Evan needed to hear, before he bit his lips together, shooting his eyes to the ground. Not sure what to say, how to respond. He looked back at his fragile brother. “I am so sorry, Aleksi.” He whispered, with a genuine tone of voice. “I am so sorry I wasn’t here and that I wasn’t able to protect you from this sooner.” Hos voice broke as he finished of his last sentence. He had failed as a big brother, he had failed to protect his only brother. “I am so sorry.” Tears began to fall down Evan’s face, as he shot his eyes back to the ground.

Aleksi looked up, surprised that someone was speaking to him but he gave a small, shy smile as he nodded, “Oh, um, yeah. It’s a few halls down, I can show you?”

“Excuse me, do you by any chance know where the cafeteria is?”

“You’re wearing a showercap and holding a pineapple ... and you don’t know why?” Aleksi asked in confusion.

Aleksi bit his lip, looking down. Honestly, he knew that it was only a matter of time until his brother found out, with the amount of rumors that were already circulating, he was only putting off the inevitable. He couldn’t help but hbe afraid of how Evan would react though. “I guess, you, um, you he said carefully.haven’t heard he was arrested.” he said softly, still unable to make eye contact, “A lot of the guys know, or, well, they figured it out, they’re spreading rumors so ... I guess you’d know soon anyway, I just...” he cut himself off, not sure where he was even trying to go with that. “He, ah, he hurt Jamison. And me.” he manged in a near whisper.

Keeping his eyes locked on his brother, it was quite hurtful for him to hear that he was like himself, a loner. He had slightly hoped that his brother would have a group of friends and since he was doing well in sports, maybe even popular. Not that it mattered, but from the time he had known his brother he saw more similarities between them by the second. “Oh.. I mean someone at college just said that they had heard he was.. Wait, what does the coach have to do with anything? Did he see the bullying without doing anything about it?”
