You know this whole thing with the Online Safety Act is weird to think about because I bought a physical blu ray copy of Shining Sex at a HMV like weeks ago, and that movie feels like it's at least pretty close to pornography or at least I wouldn't blame anyone for thinking it was, and you can literally just and buy and sell stuff like (pretty sure you can even get a few movies that are kind of softcore porn) that at a mainstream store where anyone can see it and nobody cares (which they shouldn't anyway). I mean never mind erotica, you can just buy shit like Cannibal Holocaust there, it's not in some adult's only section of the store, and, again, no one cares (which, again, no one should). But the government wants to make it so that adults can't access a lot of the internet, and it feels like our entire society is trying to justify that, because the same cowards that have always existed think that kids might run into weird or scary shit on the internet. It's totally incongruous, arguably hypocritical, just as it always was, but the media rarely if ever challenges this, and the opposition, if it exists, is not nearly as loud or aggressive as perhaps it was. And as a result millions of people will lose their freedoms, especially LGBTQ+ people, whose mere presence and existence online is in many ways the real target of legislation like the Online Safety Bill.
