These two images are my favourite of the shoot. My plan was to create a contrasty image using coloured lighting and I think I’ve achieved this well. The colours highlight some of the shapes which make them stand out against the background, yet the darker areas of the set merge with the background giving a emerging from darkness look. The studio part of my mini projects has taught me that planning is essential but trail and error is the key, without testing a few ideas first you’ll never know they work and the errors and achievements can be used for future shoots. I’ve also learnt about lighting attachments and how to bring out textures within a surface, I’ve also learn how lighting can give shape to an object and make stand out.

These are my final images for the digital prat of my night photography projects. I think I’m now getting to grips with low level light photography and being put in different light situations has helped me learn how to assess different light situations. The editing process went well and although I didn’t quite get the gloomy feel i was going for I still like the crisp lighting that some of my images have. These images were edited through photoshop using tools like, dodge and burn, image adjustments, curves, levels and different layer blending options. Dodge and burn was quite a new tool for me and I found it was really useful to bring out high lights and darken areas to add more depth to an image. The top two images are my favourite of the set. The colours against a darker background pop and add depth to the image but also help show the contrast within the images. If I were to re shoot all of my images I would probably allow myself more time to scout out more interesting places rather than walking around looking for places I would have a plan of where I wanted to go for each image.

New York at night - Ted Croner. These images are almost experimental in their aesthetic and the slight movement and blur of the images gives a really haunting look to them.

Landscapes have and always will be a staple of photography.
Texas-based artist Irby Pace asked himself, how can I use the landscape model but also add a unique twist? The answer: Puffs of colored smoke.

Warren Du Preez & Nick Thornton Jones. These images show how coloured lighting can really change the whole overall feeling and look of an image. For my final shoot i intend to use coloured lighting but not as drastic as the above images. I want to use subtile coloured lighting to give a more contumely look to my shoot and bring the advertisement into a forward thinking fashion shoot.

Sam Taylor Wood - A little death. These decomposing still life videos are amazing. There is something quite beautiful about these still life sets, I really like the haunting yet organic forms that the decomposition process creates. It is also a unique way of presenting a still life set rather than having one still image, it really opens the door to what a still life set could be.

After deciding which direction to take my fashion shoot I decided to look at the ikea cook book for inspiration. It’s here I came across Carl Kleiner's work. I really like the flatness to his images and the minimal colour palette really works with the graphic style. Colour and background is something I really need to pay attention to during my final shoot. If there is too much shadow it could ruin the graphic look and throw my idea off.
