The Fablehaven fandom gets so much hate. I hate seeing it in the main tags, not having any warnings what so ever. If you hate something, keep it to your self, or at least put warnings in the tags, it’s that f*cking easy.

I don’t want anyone to respond to this, unless they agree with me. If you don’t like the ship, block the ship tags. You don’t have to look at it if you don’t want to. We also don’t have to put warning tags for a ship that some people claim to apply, but it doesn’t.

Just respect people’s opinions, and if you have hate, keep it to yourself.

I’m rude, but I’m not a total asshole. All of my posts were tagged #anti brackendra and #anti bracken. But since you asked, I will tag everything accordingly. I expect you to do the same on your brackendra posts. It’s triggering for some of us.

You don’t get to shove me and expect me not to shove back. @fablehavenshitposts , I saw your post. It was cute. I was only stating my opinion initially- but seeing your posts, seeing everyone whine about how toxic 😤😩 this fandom is, I decided to fire back. @starlit-winter , you reap what you sowed in your original post. You don’t get to be pissed at me because I had the nerve to respond.

@starlit-winter Kendra’s not almost 16. Her birthday is in October. Bracken met her in the early springtime.The events of KttDP took place immediately after the events of SotDS, which took place around Christmastime. Don’t you remember when Bracken made Raxtus stop so they could warm Kendra up? A mere 4 months after her fifteenth birthday, how charming! Seth, for that matter, is 13- he introduces himself as such to Celebrant at the beginning of Dragonwatch. 

 Oh, and I had no idea that Ronodin was 24! Silly Brandon Mull, he must have not gotten the memo. 

The trailers aren’t canon. Tess has straight brown hair in the trailers (it’s supposed to be blonde) and Muriel has green skin (it’s supposed to be ivory). No doubt you’ve noticed how old Bracken looks at the launch parties. 

But none of that matters. Bracken and Ronodin aren’t 18 or 19, they’re both over 1,000 years old, making it totally inappropriate either way.

I used to like Bracken and draw art of him. I would make headcanons about him. Aesthetics, even. I’m not biased against him. I came to hate him over time. He’s a soft fairy boy, just my type, but then I grew up and realized that he’s a pedophile. Among other things. He doesn’t treat Kendra right. He lets fairies and naiads ridicule her and laughs it off, even though it upsets Kendra. He threatens her friend Vanessa, even though Kendra defended her.

I’m tagging you because I quoted you multiple times. It would be rude not to, don’t you agree? I think it would be considered vagueposting or talking about you behind your back. Oh, and when you made that post, you invited a response. Don’t pretend that you didn’t- @jaylalovesreading lamented that us brackendra-antis might not see the post iirc. I’m tagging it brackendra because that is the category in which it belongs- but I’ve tagged it anti bracken and anti brackendra first and foremost, and if you don’t want to see that block the tags. 

The reason I made him a student teacher is that he is a literal prince, but not just any prince- he’s the son of the Fairy Queen. Making him a student teacher is an understatement of his actual power over her. My point in the analogy is that he has a significant position of power over her. Again, I was generous with the power difference.

Let’s address your claim that Bracken was not attracted to her and making advances because of it. 

“My kind have always had a weakness for virtuous maidens."

You cannot tell me that that was in a friendship kind of way. He doesn’t go “Oh Seth, you’re so virtuous and innocent”. Recall that Bracken said this when they were in Shipbreaker Fjord, shortly after they had escaped Living Mirage.

Vanessa glared at Bracken. "Very tactful. Warren and I have some history from when I served as a Knight of the Dawn. I'm glad that's out in the open for everybody to whisper about. By the way, Bracken clearly has strong feelings for Kendra. Sometimes it doesn't take a mind reader."

Bracken opened his mouth, paused, and then closed it."Don't be shy," Vanessa teased, prodding his chest with her finger. "It really is the end of the world. Time to unbottle those hidden feelings. People make such a fuss about age discrepancies. Your attraction to Kendra is kind of like me having a crush on a newborn infant. Perfectly natural."

Bracken reddened. "I think your imagination is running away with you. I'm very fond of Kendra, but not in the way you're describing."

"You're right," Vanessa chuckled. "My mistake. It isn't quite like I described. After all, Kendra looks much more mature than an infant." 

Then, after this conversation, Bracken admits that he was lying. 

Bracken took Kendra's hand, regarding her intently. "Vanessa wasn't wrong."

Bracken also does have a close friendship with Seth. Don’t forget, it was Seth who met him first, and they communicated mind-to-mind via coin a lot. But he didn’t even hug him, and then he hugged and kissed Kendra. You’re kidding yourself if you think this was a just a friendship kiss. 

People also do seem to hate Garreth.  (x)   (x) I’ve also seen vagueposting about it and people on the subreddit hating on his very existence.

"My kind enjoy a more reliable reputation," Bracken said evenly.

"Your kind hunt blixes," Vanessa replied.

Bracken shrugged. "From time to time. Frankly, I wish blixes had more predators. Most of them deserve to be hunted."

Vanessa measured him with her eyes. "Debatable. But you do not deny that enmity exists between your kind and mine."

The difference between Centaur-Satyr, Demon-Fairy, and Dragon-Demon rivalries is that Bracken is supposed to be rational and completely in possession of himself, like a human or Fair Folk would be. I don’t think that blixes even commonly hunt unicorns. 

"Not many viviblixes get the chance to drain a unicorn. Those who do never get to warn the others. They can sense the immense supply of vitality, and they ardently crave it, but none have ever been able to handle it.

As Bracken says, blixes rarely get a chance to drain a unicorn. There’s no mass dying of unicorns at the hands of blixes here. Bracken was fine. Evidently, Bracken doesn’t even know much about blixes; Torina is a lectoblix, not a viviblix, which reanimates the dead. 

Ronodin is also not 1-4 years older in appearance than Bracken. His canon description is as follows.

Ronodin appears as a young man in his late teens with thick dark hair, intense dark eyes, and wears a dressy black robe of Asian design with subtle touches of embroidery at the neck, near the wrists, and around its fancy buttons.

Here are Bracken’s canon descriptions. He’s consistently described as a young man in his late teens as well. 

A young man stepped through the opening, holding the white light in his hand. 

The young man wore ragged clothing. Improvised moccasins covered his dirty feet. The white light in his hand was clearly magical, some kind of glowing stone. The illumination gave his grime-streaked skin a pearly sheen. Tall and lean, he had silver-white hair down to his shoulders and a handsome, open face.

"Who are you?" Seth asked.

"A fellow prisoner," the young man answered. Seth estimated he was around eighteen. 

....

An unapproachably attractive young man with a white light in his hand ducked through the gap left by the sliding wall. 

His threadbare clothes hugged an athletic build. He had thick, longish hair; expressive, silver-blue eyes; and flawless skin. His boyishly charming features would look much more at home on a magazine cover than in a prison.

As for your parents, they probably didn’t fall in love when one was an (older) child and the other an adult. My own grandparents have a large age gap- but they met and fell in love AS ADULTS. 

Kendra and Seth also have an age gap of roughly 2 years. Kendra is 15, Seth is 13, Kendra’s birthday is in October and Seth’s is between October and early December.

Yes, I am. Maybe if the 9/10th grader had to repeat a year. But the maturity gap is very large at that age, and doesn’t begin to plateau until adulthood. I had a senior pursue me when I was in 9th grade, and it was pretty creepy even without him having a position of power over me, which Bracken certainly has over Kendra. 

In fics, you don’t fix the issues there are in canon, like making Bracken not attracted to 15 year olds and you don’t age Kendra up or age Bracken down. You just ship it as it is and then try to use the fact that they’re not officially dating in canon as a gotcha for arguing that their relationship isn’t wrong. And then you turn around and condone the exact relationship you were just saying that Bracken withdrew from. 

Whether you agree with it or not, my point has been made, my argument has been put forth. We shouldn’t sacrifice the ability to debate freely for a false peace in which some of us are forced to see UNTAGGED Bracken pedophilic content.

Patton and Marshal were adults. Kendra is fifteen. Patton’s uncle also had three marriages so he wasn’t young. By my calculations, Patton was 31 when he married Lena.

The difference lies in that Bracken knows Kendra is 15. In fact, he was specifically attracted to her youth, being a “virtuous maiden”. If he thought she was older and realized she was younger, his attraction would’ve ended right there. Not thought “ah, she’s pretty hot and I am going to kiss her, but I’ll wait to officially date her until she’s 18 because I was called out on it”

“When someone is being a creep about it and *grooming* (yuck) them, they don’t try to make sure they have the experience and knowledge to make an informed decision.”

I don’t think it’s up to you do decide what is and isn’t grooming. He’s tricking her into believing that his attraction to her is normal and ok. He’s kissing her and cuddling with her on the boat, and making her think those things are ok. From Wikipedia: Child grooming is befriending and establishing an emotional connection with a child, and sometimes the family, to lower the child’s inhibitions with the objective of sexual abuse. I’d say that kissing her would be considered that. It wasn���t a friendship kiss. He didn’t kiss Seth.

He’s not waiting till she’s legal (he’s from a time when legal age meant nothing actually)…..The difference is that it’s only really in recent age that we started considering that bad. He is (as you put it) from long before that. He wasn’t raised with the modern day ideals of this age matters stuff. Age did not matter any where near as much in previous years. So no, for him, it isn’t wrong to think so highly of someone, to have a crush, recognize now *isn’t the time and she is not capable of making the decisions* and back off. That is actually extremely mature of him, and more than many are capable of.

Maybe for humans, but I’d like to think that unicorns are more civilized. Even if they weren’t, that does NOT make it ok. It’s the present. It was wrong then, it is wrong now. I’m sure that many of the younger women hated it back then too, despite what the laws at the time said. Oh, and am I supposed to pat him on the back for doing the bare minimum- nay, doing below the bare minimum? Maybe he says he’s backing off, but his idea of backing off included kissing and cuddling, so I don’t trust that. He’s merely not marrying or officially dating her.

It’s not ok in manga either. Bracken sure doesn’t act mentally younger. Raxtus has. In manga, some characters successfully pull of being actually mentally young. She’s the best piano player at her whole school, and the best player on the soccer team. She even tackled a gun out of the hands of someone who was trying to hurt her loved ones. She’s 15 years old and is very cool. You, Bracken, are a student music teacher. You’re about to graduate, and assist the chorus teacher. Kendra is a prodigy. She instantly attracts you. But she’s 15, and you’re a legal adult about to head off to college, and you’re in a position of power. Despite what you promise her family and yourself, you make advances toward her. If you found that creepy, then congratulations, you’re a normal human being.

Stop pretending that Bracken’s age is ok in any form. It’s not. He’s described as looking to be in his late teens, so 18 or 19, just like his cousin. If that was his true mental age, that would be messed up for reasons I have already outlined. BUt WaIT, ThERe’s MOrE! Bracken is over 1000 years old! His THIRD HORN (a sign that he’s an adult by unicorn standards) was a literal key to Zzyzx, which has been around for centuries. He doesn’t act mentally young at all.
