Chapter 10 starts off at the end of Holden's call with Faith, a girl who's number was given to him from a friend at a party.  It seemed quite early for Holden to settle down and sleep so he decided to change his clothes and head down the hotel to the Lavender Room, and go clubbing. "…but they gave me a lousy table anyway."(77, Salinger) Though, at his table, 3 blonde girls and 1 in particular caught his eye.  He went up to them and asked if they'd like to dance.  After a bit of giggling, they agreed and all danced with him one by one. Though one of them was a great dancer, the three of them weren't great conversationalist to begin with and showed little interest in Holden from the beginning, only making sarcastic comments and giggling one too many times.  Though, after Holden's third dance, and a chat with the three ladies, the club was nearly done closing up. Shortly after Holden left the club and decided he wanted to go to Ernie's, another club,  he got Jane back on his mind.  Chapter 11 consist of the entirety of Holden's first and best encounter's Jane. Holden met her at a swimming pool and their first conversation together went about how Holden "…didn't give a good goddam where her dog relieved himself."(86, Salinger)  Holden then describes his closest attempt at "necking" with Jane and that brings the end of Chapter 11. Personally, I wouldn't want to be famous for any other reason than the money, UNLESS I was famous for something I enjoyed doing or was passionate for, like making videos or editing music for instance. The only way I would want to be famous would be for doing something I love, like playing video games, making music or videos, helping out with lighting during a performance.  I wouldn't want to be famous for any other reason other than being famous for something I like doing, because then I wouldn't be a legitimate person, I'd essentially be a phony.  Tai Lopez, not sure how many people know him.  Tai is very conceited.  His story about he went from nothing to having loads of money has made him so proud of himself, and how he loves reading books and that he thinks his books teach good life lessons has made him extremely conceited.  Though, If someone were to start from nothing and find themselves in the future having a lot of money and success, it's not surprising to see someone to be extremely conceited and overly arrogant about a lot of things. I personally don’t like him very much but the reviews on his books make it seem like they aren't horrible and they may be good to pickup once in a while. Being conceited is when you are so proud of yourself, that it pushes the point of simply being proud to where you're bragging, and being arrogant about everything.   Holden does talk about the Stradlater and Jane encounter a lot, if Holden would've said hi to Jane that night that she went on a date with Stradlater, would things have been different than they are now? What if Stradlater presented himself differently to Holden, like a better person than he is, would Holden have approved of the Jane and Stradlater encounter and wanted them to be together, being in a different spot than he is in now? I chose this song because I feel that it expresses how Holden thinks about the whole Jane situation.  He needs someone with him, that being someone specific as Jane, during the later chapters, we see that other girls don’t really cut it except for Jane.  He wants Jane by his side, he can't get her off his mind.

Chapter 8 starts off shortly after Holden leaving Pencey prep for his 3ish day excursion until Wednesday, for that is when his parents will be getting the notice that he was given the axe.  It was too late for him to get a cab by then so he hops onto the train on his way to New York.  On his ride there, a women strangely sits beside him out of the surrounding free open seats.  She notices a Pencey prep sticker on his bag and there struck a conversation.  The woman was the mother of a kid that went to Pencey in Holden's class.  The mother asks about her son, though, Holden lies from beginning to end.  He lies about his name and about how good of a student her son isn't. "Her son was doubtless the biggest bastard ever went to Pencey…"(61, Salinger).  After his phony behavior, she disembarks from the train and after a while, so does Holden. Holden hops into a taxi after a peculiar ride and being denied a drink, Holden makes it to the hotel.  When Holden gets up to his room, he's feeling quite alone so he decides to call someone and after some time of process of elimination, he calls a girl that's number was given to him from a friend he met a party.  She, too, denies to drink with Holden, with that bringing the end of chapter 9.  I, personally have never lied for the fun of it. I tried it once, and I felt quite guilty just after a short while.  I lie here and there, I admit to that, though for a long run of lying for a long period of time, aimlessly isn't a thing of mine.  I can't bring myself to do something like that.  I believe it's quite immoral and unethical to do it for such a long time that someone believes that this improper source of information be true. I may joke around once or twice with it, but man does it feel guilty when it's gone on for too long.  Dating really comes down to what kind of person you are. If someone dates another person but doesn’t like their "significant" other that much, it's almost like cheating on them.  Sure you're not actually going out with any other particular person, but you're lying to your other person, and they care very much about you.  Dating and love is one thing, but for the sake of mere company you will go to ends of lying to a person and making them believe you like them, making them feel love that really isn't there. Ironically, in chapter 8, he imitates a phony person. It's ironic because he hates people that show phony behavior, yet he himself shows a lot of it when talking to Ernest Morrow's mother on the train.  Holden's advancement later in the story shows how leaving Pencey has made him lonelier and more depressed, because he has no company.  He wants to call several different people and tell them how he's feeling though, he just can't bring himself to do so.  He is denied having a drink with people twice in chapter 9, more than likely, amplifying his loneliness in a way.  Though, if Holden told the truth to Ernest's mother on the train, how would she react to what he has just said about her son?  What is Holden really did call Phoebe, his sister, and Jane and they did end up answering, would he be less depressed? more depressed because they answered and he doesn't have the chance now to see them and talk to them in person?  The song, Smiling Faces Sometimes, by the Undisputed Truth talks about men or women that put on a smiling face, when really there is a bigger thing behind the scene happening.  Like the iceberg ideal, only a little bit is shown, when really the bigger picture is hidden, the truth is hidden in this case, and the lies are being shown, the evil truth is being hidden.  Similar to how Holden talked to Ernest's mother, putting on the phony lies about how good her son isn't but instead her son is not that good of a student, but Holden fools her.  It is kind of sad how somebody might do something like this to a nice lady, or even at all, lie this much.

During chapters 3, 4, and 5, Holden first talks about the dorms he was staying in.  How the dorms were named after a very successful former student of Pencey.  After Holden arrived to his dorms, he began to settle in and read a book he picked up  when his neighbor walked in on him.  Ackley, his neighbor, and Holden began their conversation, though, Ackley created enough of a disturbance for Holden to put down his book and see what Ackley was doing. During their conversation, Holden's newly bought hat comes up quite a bit, Holden sees it as a symbol of comfort and security.  Later that day, Stradlater walks in on their conversation. Stradlater was coming back to freshen up before he went on a date.  Holden followed Stradlater into the washroom, Holden didn't have anything to do as Ackley left the room, Ackley doesn't like Stradlater very much.  During their conversation, Holden asks Stradlater about his new date, as he has had his fair share before.  Holden recognizes the name of Stradlater's date as Holden and Jean, his date, used to be close friends.  Stradlater asked Holden to do his writing composition and write about something descriptive.  Stradlater finished up and left to go on his date.  Holden wasn't doing anything and decided to ask a friend of his, Mal, and Ackley if they wanted to go for burgers and a movie.  When they returned, Holden started to write Stradlater's writing composition.  Holden decided to write about his old brother Allie's glove, who to Holden, was a very nice and great man before passing away, due to leukemia. I wouldn't personally say I'm BITTER about life, though, I do sometimes get annoyed about a lot of things. Like Holden, sometimes, when people don't get the hint that they shouldn't be near me, it really gets on my nerves,  though, I do try to stay patient about things.  Keeping to myself helps a lot with that, being comfortable with myself and adapting to be around anybody else.  I won't lie about the next part, I get depressed about a lot of things in life, and the fact that my only 2 close friends that went to the school don’t even go anymore, really doesn't help.  Though, I don't show it, and there aren't very many people that actually do know about it, so it becomes a lot easier to manager when no one knows you are depressed a lot of the time at school.  Being a quiet person, generally only loud when I'm next to an audience, I don't believe I've gone crazy over something or destroyed something in the process of being mad.  If I were to get mad at something, it would have to be something that would be indirectly targeting me, as in hurting someone I care about.  If someone actually did something like that, I would go full berserk, it isn't funny when you mess with someone else's family or friends. When Stradlater mentions his date, Jean, Holden "dropped his jaw."  Holden was shocked and was describing old times he had with her. Though, Holden does notice Stradlater's ignorance towards everything that he was saying. Holden develops some disliking towards Stradlater, similar to how Ackley hates Stradlater. Holden also describes how he doesn't really enjoy Ackley's presence during chapter 3. Though, nearing the end of Chapter 5, Holden feels a little sorry for him noticing most of his "issues", as one might call them.   Some things we could ask though; how would the conversation go if Ackley decided to ignore his hatred for Stradlater and stay in the room, talking with the both of them?  also; If Holden had more confidence, would he go down and talk to Jean? What would he say and talk about? I feel that, in the following chapters, Holden might try to find something interesting to do.  Due to the fact that he is leaving the school in a couple days anyway, and that he isn't having the most enjoyable time at Pencey one could have, I believe he will go somewhere or at the least, do something interesting and different for a change.   Im choosing to write about a baseball glove because when Holden was writing Stradlater's composition, He was describing his younger brother's baseball mitt.  His brother passed away due to leukemia, and Holden went through a whole series of different events that he could remember of his brother. Holden described his brother to be an amazing person, and what a great person he really was and how much Allie meant to Holden.

The first chapter in Catcher in the Rye, the reader is introduced with a first person narration of a student, named Holden, who begins the story talking about how his life is a bit of a drag.  Though, Holden does describe a lot about himself and his family, also how he was about to be kicked out of his school. Holden starts his story the day he figured out why he was being kicked out of Pencey Prep School, since he hadn't been given the reason.  Once he figured it out, he visits a teacher and it is then where the readers are introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Spencer. In the story Holden describes how his parents feel when anything personal about them is exposed, "…and in the second place, my parents would have about two hemorrhages apiece if I told anything personal about them."(Salinger, p.3).  I feel as though my parents are the same way from behind, but when the actual exposure of information is conducted, they seem to be the happiest and most content and agreeing of people ever known to man.  I can't seem to find the reason why that is, that could just be my own opinion towards that idea though that is what I'm led to believe.  Personally myself(referring to another thing) I have a tendency to feel like I'm not there, though, I don't feel like I may disappear, that may be taking it a little far. I grew up in an area that should've seen more love when I was a child.  Also considering the fact that I didn't make very many friends and that I also moved around a lot as a kid, I did feel a lot of the time like I just wasn't there.  Through the story and the first chapter, my first impression is that Holden has probably felt similarly, maybe even the same way.  He talks in a very bitter tone, he doesn't seem pleased with himself right now, whatsoever, in his current state.  Though, nearing the end of the chapter, he talks about how he was going to visit a teacher he liked as the teacher requested he see Holden before he leaves the school.  It's safe to assume that the teacher isn't very pleased with the Holden's situation and that there may be some conflict between the 2 though, it's only a mere assumption.  The heart is a representation of how Holden may feel.  Through the bitterness of his language and how he describes some of the things like his parents, school, his current state in life, he seems like someone's heart needs mending.
