james armstrong‌:
“Then what are you here for, exactly?” James asked, tilting his head.
Tumblr media
Alexander’s expression dropped, all traces of humor dissipating instantly. “Believe it or not, I don’t have to disclose that to you. However, I’m willing to broker a deal with you: if you stay out of my way, I’ll stay out of yours. I think that’s fair, don’t you?”

“Sounds kinda boring,” Pax said, “But maybe you have a really cool family business?”
Tumblr media
“I’ve found ways to make it... less boring,” Alexander conceded with a tilt of his head, “Also, I’ve got my fingers in a lot of pies so you could say it’s got a broad reach.”

“Oh my god really?” Kelsie asked, laughing lightly.  The mental image of a little old lady texting was enough to bring a smile to her face.  “Unfortunately I can’t see myself taking that advice even when I try and tell myself I will.  It’s too easy to get sucked into technology.”
Tumblr media
“I swear her fingers were moving faster than mine ever could, though I guess I am technically older than her, so maybe that’s the natural order of things?” Alexander added with a slight chuckle.
Tumblr media
“But don’t beat yourself up about it, these things were designed to be addictive.”

“Yeah? What do you do?”
Tumblr media
“Me? Well, in a nutshell, I’m a glorified pencil pusher. I caved in and went into the family business.”

“Sorry, some people like flavors that aren’t followed by ‘positive’ or ‘negative’ after them,” James rolled his eyes. “Looks like ColdStone isn’t trying to expand to the vampire audience.”
Tumblr media
“Woah, down Fido—I didn’t think such a small comment would elicit such a visceral response. Believe me Armstrong, I’m not here to quarrel with you.”

Kelsie offered him a sheepish smile when he held up his phone.  “That actually makes me feel so much better knowing I’m not the only distracted one here,” she admitted.  “Though I probably should take this as a lesson and not answer calls while I’m trying to shop.”
Tumblr media
“Oh yeah, but I’m sure we’re not the only culprits here—I swear to God in my periphery I saw a little old lady texting furiously away by the check out counters.” Alexander replied, laughter lacing his voice. “You’ve got a point though, that’s advice we could all take.”

tegan matheson‌:
He hadn’t known, he was fine, he was standing right in front of her absolutely fine. If she could have collapsed out of relief, Tegan would have been on the floor in that moment, an absolute puddle of emotions.
She hadn’t lost her composure like that since the night she was turned into a vampire, however, and there was no reason to do so now— not now that she knew Alexander was alive and well, his undead heart keeping him on this planet for another day. His shrug, his noncommittal answer, all of it was a relief. Her brother was still unabashedly himself, and despite the anxiety wrecking her for the last few weeks, it was all fine now.
Tumblr media
“Oh it’s not important right now,” Tegan said, pulling him in for a hug. “Do you need something? Blood? Something else to drink? Anything? Let me get you something to drink, let’s go sit down.”
He knew not to press on the topic—Tegan would tell him in due time if it were truly important. They had been through thick and thin together and with that came an understanding that was stronger than the obstacles that had tested them. He had faith in that and he had faith in her. So now, that meant that the best course of action was to carry on.
“Sure,” Alexander answered, rubbing his stomach kiddingly, “I’m famished.” She then pulled him into a firm hug and he reciprocated the gesture, patting her back in a motion that was meant to reassure. As he stepped back from her embrace, he took a more thorough glance at his surroundings, noting that people were still milling about even though it was an awkward time on a weekday. “I see business is good.”

“I’ve heard that before, everyone keeps saying it to me. I’ve kind of dug this hole for myself though, so I think it’s med school or bust at this point. I’m a bio major, but I’m getting a minor in Classics. I figured I have this one shot at college…”
He laughed, tipping his head back as the sound spilled from his lips. “Wow, you certainly are ambitious, some would maybe even argue insane. Those are subjects that are not for the faint of heart.”

“Yeah,” she the coworker she was on the phone with.  “I can probably do that. I’ve got to go though,” she said while maneuvering her cart around an aisle at the grocery store.  Except as soon as she put the phone down she realized she nearly bumped into someone with her cart.  “Oh sorry.  I swear I am a better driver than this usually.”
Tumblr media
Alexander had broken his charging cable after absentmindedly forgetting to disconnect it prior to slamming the door shut. It snapped in two, which was inconvenient because he was waiting for a call from an associate that was apparently very, very important and his phone was hovering precariously at 5%. Immediately, he ran into the supermarket, fumbling with his phone in the process. He had heard her before he had seen her and due to his heightened vampire senses, he managed to swerve right as she veered into his path. “No worries,” he replied, holding his device up, “I’m guilty too.”

 tegan matheson‌:
Funny how a hundred years could change an average set of footsteps into the most important things she’d ever hear. Her hearing had always been impressive, even when she was a human, though that was no match for the advantage she had now, as a vampire. As a sister who had heard her brother’s footsteps for an entire century.
She knew what it sounded like when Alexander walked into a room, or next to her. And then a split second after she heard his steps, she heard his voice.
Light and airy, laughing. Her shoulders fell and she swirled around, her eyes lighting up as she met his gaze. “Oh, my God,” Tegan said, hands covering her mouth. “Oh God, Alexander, where have you been?”
Tumblr media
Time had passed since they had last seen each other, but immortality had robbed them of any of the consequences. Even now, after centuries, Tegan still looked the same with her long raven tresses, bright eyes, and look of astonishment. HAH—Alexander had forgotten how funny her expression of shock could be. It reminded him of times long gone, of days when they were both just children and he hid frogs in her dresser drawers to make her run in terror down the halls.
Laughing, he shrugged noncommittally, half-heartedly replying, “Here, there, a bit of everywhere.” In truth, Tegan did know generally where he had been, but Germany was a country and though Alexander was sure he owed her a more thorough answer, he found that there was no sense in discussing it now that he was standing before her in her restaurant. “But I’m here now, so will you tell me what prompted the frantic phone calls?”

“This is the worst thing,” Paxton said, groaning as he shut his textbook and put his head down. “Why is the first day of classes so exhausting?”
Tumblr media
“Syllabus day?” He asked, his brows quirked upward. “Yeah, it’s tedious, but group work is something else altogether.”

“They assigned us reading before the semester even started,” Paxton said, forcing himself to not groan in front of this stranger. “I don’t mind the group work, I always end up with some friends and we have a good time. It’s just the adjusting from summer work to school work, you know? I’ll get over it.”
Tumblr media
Alexander could remember his time in college, though it had been years ago. He certainly didn’t miss all the busy work and this conversation was only further enforcing that sentiment. Shooting the man a sympathetic look, he spoke again, “That sounds like a punishment to me—one that you happen to be on the receiving end of, man. At least tell me it’s worth your time, what are you studying?”

june alexander‌:
“You stupid piece of…”, June’s words rang out as she stared at the cell phone in her hand. She was ready to throw the stupid piece of technology across the room. It wasn’t working. She couldn’t see anything, couldn’t see where he was. And it was driving her absolutely crazy. At the sensation of someone close did she look up, “What? Can I help you with something”?
Tumblr media
Alexander suppressed the urge to laugh out loud; he had been in her shoes many times before—frustrated with technology, but still wholly dependent on it. He could empathize, but oh how times had changed tremendously. “It looks like you’re the one that needs some help. Did you try banging it against something?”

He had arrived just minutes ago, barreling past the county line at an unprecedented speed. In truth, he wasn’t going dangerously fast; he was just sure that no one had ever broken the speed limit in a town as sleepy as this. It was quaint, yes—but he had always preferred the hustle and bustle of a bigger city. It was what he was used to—well, what they were used to, though apparently Tegan had a change of heart in the months prior.
Still, to this day, it baffled him why she had chosen to settle here. He had urged her to join him in Germany where the weather was far more forgiving and the pace was quicker, but she refused. Alexander was, of course, surprised, but he was downright flabbergasted when she begged him to come join her in North Carolina. He was resistant at first, but slowly Tegan chipped away at his resolve as only older sisters could and not too long afterward, he booked a one way ticket to the American South.
He’d try it out, see where it’d take him, but frankly, there had been something in her voice that alarmed him. Regardless, he was going to make this visit worth his money.
After turning onto the main street, Alexander then decided to make an immediate beeline for his sister’s restaurant in an effort to surprise her. Pulling into a parking space, he quickly clambered out of his vehicle and past the heavy doors. Then, approaching the hostess’ desk, he grinned and jokingly asked, “Hey there, could I speak to the owner? I’d like to file a complaint about the quality of my food.”

ALEXANDER MATHESON
FACECLAIM: KEITH POWERS AGE: 188 (Looks 22) SPECIES: VAMPIRE (Declared) OCCUPATION: BUSINESSMAN ARRIVED: August 17th, 2018 TEGAN MATHESON'S BROTHER.
“THE LEGACY”
Legacy—it’s an elusive concept, one that his father pursued until the end. Notoriety, success, and wealth were not just points of personal pride to him, but also measures of change in a time when much change was needed. It was a lesson he sought to instill in his two children, one that his young son took in unfalteringly. However, as time would tell, Alexander would never quite be Joseph Matheson.
In truth, he had a strange upbringing, wrought with both triumph and tribulation. His family strode a fine line in 1835, barely tolerated even as his father turned their surroundings into gold, blessed like Midas, but perhaps cursed as well. Because of his status in life, each move was scrutinized, so Alexander learned quickly that the only way to succeed was to exceed all expectation. That in of itself, however, bred feelings of discontentment because even though his shackles had long been cut off, he still felt like he was at the mercy of others’ whims.
Alexander couldn’t complain though, not when so many others were suffering far worse fates. He felt compelled to help, called to action, but it was all cut short on that one pivotal day. Tegan had always been a guiding light to him; his older sister was the levelheaded one, always so calm, cool, and collected. He, on the other hand, had a hot streak, moments of weakness that had a penchant for getting him in trouble. So when he stepped between the Alpha and his sister, moved by the instinct to protect, he sealed their collective futures.
The next night when he awoke, crazed with bloodlust and newly transformed, he found that he was a part of a new plight. The transition was difficult and the times were turbulent, but through it all, he had Tegan. As time has passed they’ve spent decades together and apart. His desire to make an impact on the surrounding community has only intensified with his own personal change. Now, Alexander is not above getting his hands dirty—he is willing to help by donating money, time, or whatever the supernatural cause needs. As a vocal member of the National Association of Supernatural Rights, his work takes him far and wide from place to place. As a much less vocal member of the Order of the Unseen, Alexander is constantly pulling strings and conducting as Tegan would call it “Very Important Business.”
Legacy—it’s an elusive concept, especially for an immortal being. The word has taken on a new meaning in this stage of his life or death as some would call it. At one point, Alexander wanted to emulate his father, now he aims to exceed him.
-BEHIND THE CURTAIN-
Surprisingly, over the years, he’s mellowed out—well, in some respects. Alexander is still driven, a little brash, but a majority of the time when people aren’t being bigoted he’s a fan of the saying, “live and let live.” He’s hard to pin down, a bit of a rolling stone, wanting to live life on his own terms. He won’t be intimidated or strong-armed into anything, which makes him a formidable business man though at times his relationships can suffer. All in all though, he’s personable and easy to get along with. Alexander also takes his role as The Little Brother™ very seriously—just ask Tegan.
