- Indie Deanna Monroe from The Walking Dead - Crossovers, OCs and AU Welcome- Please be literate. I cannot stress this enough. If I can't read what you've written, I'm likely to ignore it and maybe even unfriend you. I understand English isn't everyone's first language and I don't expect perfection. But, at least put an effort into it. - NO text speak. U is NOT the same as you. B4 is NOT the same as before. This is another way to get removed from my friends.- NO one liners. They will be ignored at the least. One line gives me absolutely nothing to work with, so I most likely won't even try. Also things such as *looks at you* will not be accepted. - Please either be over eighteen or have the maturity of an adult. This is a dark fandom and bad things can happen. I don't want to have to worry about anyone freaking out because they aren't old enough to handle dark, violent things.- I am new to tumblr roleplaying but have over 11 years of roleplaying experience that includes Facebook, Roleplayer.me, Twitter and IM

"I'm not as stupid or naive as you seem to think." Deanna frowned. "Things aren't as simple as you want to make them out to be." She shook her head. There really was no reasoning with some people.

“Or what?” Deanna couldn’t help it. She didn’t take well to threats, obvious or veiled. The cold look that she was given didn’t sway her at all. She’d certainly dealt with much worse than that. She was tired of being given orders.

Deanna's lips pressed into a thin line for a moment at the reminder. "Do you think I don't know that?!" She demanded, doing her best to remain calm. "It isn't as simple as just kicking them out." She shook her head.
"I don't want to lose more people." This was true. Things had already gone downhill so much that she wasn't sure she could stop the slide. Yet, there was the chance of losing people either way and her people weren't going to put up with a lack of decision for too long.

“Of course that’s not what I want!” Deanna snapped, finally showing some emotion. His words were almost an exact echo of those spoken by the priest who had come in with Rick’s group. The man who had given her much to think about. If even a priest who was one of them could think and say such thing…
“I also don’t want a war inside our walls.” She added after a moment. Everyone wanted the newcomers kicked out. They all acted as if it would be so simple as to utter the words. She wasn’t prone think that way. Not with how they had proved they could all take care of themselves. She didn’t want a takeover, but she didn’t want to lose any more people in an unsuccessful rousting attempt either.

Don’t you dare look at him in the eye.

“I’m aware that they aren’t like us. That was the whole point.” Deanna replied, keeping her own calm. That was something she was good at. Keeping up the appearance of calm no matter how she was really feeling. She didn’t blame anyone who was worrying about this new group. Not really. Several things had happened since they’d been allowed in and they weren’t good things. She couldn’t deny that she’d thought at least once about kicking them out just as Nick was demanding.
These people possessed knowledge of how to survive out in the world beyond their walls that the people of Alexandria just didn’t have. It had been Deanna’s hope that they could learn from each other. That they could become one stronger group rather than two groups with a line drawn firmly between them.
It wasn’t a hope she really saw happening anymore. The leader of this new group was rather uncompromising, demanding and stuck on the belief that his way was the only way to do things. His motto ‘you fight or you die’ didn’t sit well with her at all. That wasn’t how they did things here. They had their own ways and they had survived just as long as these others by sticking to their ways.
Deanna narrowed her eyes a little. “You don’t get to decide who does and does not deserve to be here. I’ve yet to hear any real reasons to make them leave.” She wasn’t exactly happy with all of the newcomers herself, but she wasn’t about to say that either.
Things were changing and not in a way she liked. This wasn’t the first complaint she’d heard about the new people, but it was going to take more than that to make them leave.

“You’re ‘just anybody’ to me.” Deanna pointed out. “I’m certainly not going to give information to someone with a gun pointed at me.” She had people to protect, after all. Any information could be important, no matter how small it might seem. Some people could find a way to use anything you told them against you.
A gun wasn’t the greatest motivator either. When you couldn’t trust the one holding it, you couldn’t trust that they wouldn’t just shoot you once they got their answers. What incentive was that to talk at all?
Deanna studied the man before her in return. If she felt any fear, she didn’t show it all. In fact, her chin came up and a hint of defiance lit her eyes. “I don’t give out that kind of information to just anyone.” She almost smiled because it made her refusal to bow to demands even more annoying to most people.
It probably wasn’t the smartest idea to antagonize someone she knew nothing about, but she wasn’t about to back down. She hadn’t gotten to where she was by being weak, despite what some people might think.

OPEN ROLEPLAY
Deanna was lost. That was the only way to put it. Everything had changed and not for the better. Like Alice through the looking glass, her world was turned upside down. This new group of people was supposed to be wonderful for her community. They were more experienced with the real world. They were smart. They were resourceful. They were a family unit. They were survivors. Just what Alexandria needed in order to make it.
They weren't what anyone had expected. The balance of power had shifted rapidly and she had been the one to start the one rolling. Her people tried to be welcoming and friendly - maybe too friendly in a case or two - but the worries began to surface as each new person took a leadership position. They feared a takeover and it wasn't hard to see why.
The newcomers, Rick especially, didn't like the way they did things in Alexandria. He thought they were weak and naive. To an exctent he was right about the naivety. They didn't know what things were like outside their walls. They were trying to live a normal life. Or as normal as they could. They were trying to keep some part of civilization alive. That in itself was a strength. There were more ways to determine strength and weakness than just the physical.
Making Rick constable, while seeming like the perfect idea, had likely been her first mistake. He was a leader in his own right and it was only a matter of time before they clashed. In fact, it wasn't long at all.
She had seen the way he and Jessie interracted from the beginning. There was clearly something there, though she highly doubeted it was love. She didn't approve, but she didn't step in either. Jessie was a married woman, but both she and Rick were also responsible adults. They could take care of their own situation.
Then Rick had come to her about Pete, Jessie's abusive husband who was also the town's surgeon. He was shocked to learn that she already knew about the situation and hadn't stopped it. Her excuse that she had hoped it would get better was just that: an excuse. She didn't argue. She also didn't argue that something needed to be done. Something should already have been done. What she did argue were his demands that Pete be killed outright. That was NOT how they did things here. It didn't help his argument that she was mourning the death of her son who had died while one of his people was in charge of the run. It didn't help that she knew about things between him and Jessie and didn't believe his reasons for wanting to stop this were strictly because Pete was abusive, but specifically because of who he was abusive toward. It didn't help that he was demanding by the end of the conversation and unwilling to listen to anything she had to say.
She had told him in no uncertain terms that he wasn't going to get what he wanted. So, he had snapped and taken things into his own hands. The fight that ensued ended up in the street with both men bloody and the town standing witness. She had run to stop it, but Rick had a gun. Something that wasn't allowed anyway, but only made the situation worse. What he had to say might have actually been heard if it wasn't coming from a man who had just beat another man senseless and was now covered in blood and aiming a gun at unarmed people. Michonne, the other constable and one of Rick's own people, had effectively ended the situation by knocking Rick out and taking his gun.
The men had been separated from each other and Pete was kept away from Jessie and their children while it was decided what was to be done. Deanna had basically already decided after agreeing that some people were dangerous and needed to be dealt with. Rick was one such dangerous person and couldn't be allowed to stay. She called a meeting anyway. It was only right to allow people to have a say in the matter, to have their voices heard. As was expected, Rick's people spoke for him and his insistence that her people were the ones who had to change because his way was the only way. What she didn't expect was for Rick himself to not even show up.
She threw out the words that Father Gabriel had said to her about them being dangerous. About how they had done horrible things and not just in the name of survival. About how they would put their group above all others and destroy what they'd been working for here. She didn't expect to be questioned, but Jessie was right. She was only saying what someone else had said - even if it was true that he'd said those exact words - and not proving it because she hadn't filmed the exchange. Though Gabriel himself was also conspicuously missing from the meeting.
When Rick finally did arrive, he was once again covered with blood and had a body slung over his shoulder. He threw the walker into the middle of the group, earning gasps and shocks of dismay from those gathered. He revealed that the gate had had no guard and had been left open, letting the walkers into their previously safe home. This time his insistence that they change, that he would teach them, was met with a more thoughtful silence. His entrance had certainly gotten their attention as planned.
Before anything could be decided, Pete showed up. He was armed, though not with a gun, and was on the warpath against Rick who he insisted was not one of them and did not belong in Alexandria. Deanna's husband, Reg, had stepped up, trying to calm Pete despite his wife's protests. His efforts had only ended up getting his throat slit in a shocking and devastating move that broke Deanna completely.
Her cries and sobs rang out as she sank to the ground with her husband's dying body in her arms and his life's blood staining her hands. She couldn't feel anything but terror and disbelief at first. This was a nightmare. She would wake up and Reg would be peacefully sleeping beside her as the rest of her people enjoyed a mostly normal life inside the safely constructed walls that protected their community.
It didn't take too long for those thoughts to fade and reality to sink in. Then the disbelief was replaced by a blinding hatred and rage. "Rick. Do it." She didn't even flinch as the shot that ended Pete's life rang out. What did it matter now? Her son was gone. Her husband, the man who had remained faithfully by her side for the last thirty years lay dead in her arms. Her community and the efforts she'd put into it collapsed at her feet. Her people had been right. A takeover was happening and it had changed everything. But, maybe it was supposed to happen that way...
"You okay?" Deanna barely heard the words and really didn't even process them at all. Of course she wasn't okay. She hadn't flinched when Pete had been killed, but the second shot was so unexpected that she did cry out, though it couldn't be heard over the echo of the shot that ended her husband's 'life' again. She hadn't even noticed that he had turned. She was shocked and broken, even if just for the moment. She couldn't initially comprehend that her husband was dead. That the dangers outside their walls were now inside. That everything was going to be different, was already different. She couldn't process much at the moment, yet...she had to. She was a leader to the core. Her people may turn to Rick for guidance, but that didn't mean she was just going to abandon them. She looked up at Rick again, a blankness in her eyes that her people had never seen before, but a determination lurking just behind that. "No." She had meant to say yes, but it wouldn't come out. It didn't matter because to say yes would have been a lie and she tried not to do that. It also didn't matter because he didn't really care how she was. That was quite obvious. Now, the next morning, she felt pretty much the same. Was she okay? No. Not at all. Would she ever be? Probably not. How did one get over the loss of the one person who had been with them through everything for so many years? She had turned away anyone who had approached her, which was definitely unlike her. Normally she wouldn't turn anyone who came to her away. That was what being a leader was. Thinking of others before yourself. But, she couldn't get back to that. Not yet. Maybe not ever. It was hard to tell and she couldn't quite bring herself to overly care at the moment, though she knew at least that much would come soon.
A knocking at her door made her frown and sigh as she got up to answer it. She still didn’t want to see anyone. Though that was more true for some than others.

The Wolf studied the smaller leader, unable to fully understand why she was the alpha of the other perfectly capable people inside the walls of the haven. Unless she had some skill he didn’t know about yet, she didn’t exactly seem like the alpha sort; but then, what did he know?
Most skills were useless at gunpoint anyways.
