What first excited me about skateboard gyotaku was how it could convey the abstract scratches of a single skaters body movements. This here is an amalgamation of many different skaters' trick expressions from the bottoms of their used decks. Each mark is a land, a slam, a session, a place, and a memory. #skateboarding #gyotaku #printmaking #collage #painting #skateeverything

I made this almost ten foot long print two years back using ink and a skateboard attached to a quarter pipe I built in my studio. The idea was to create an image out of action, where the end result was mostly incidental. It's fun not knowing what your going to get. For me I like seeing an aggressive visual mark like a urethane streak on a cement wall become frozen and zen like. The act of rebelling against gravity mirroring a meadow of grass doing the very same thing. #skateboarding #printmaking #calligraphy
