Time to reflect..

After every Module draws to a close during my time at LMA I like to spend some time reflecting on my journey after an assignment comes to an end. This next post will be documenting a personal conclusion within creating my website, and the tumblr blogging process behind it. When I first received this brief I was very excited to get started, and I would like to start by stating how much I have enjoyed this whole process in creating my website and blog. To me this experience hasn't felt like a workload, yet a form of preparation for the rest of our lives as actors, so to Liverpool Media Academy, for that I will always be grateful for creating such a beneficial assessment to end our degree.

I was very keen to get started on my website, as I believed it was the start of truly branding myself as a professional performer. Creating an actors website, and the extensive research I carried out to finding out what is included in making the perfect website allowed me to begin making something that will later be used by casting directors / agents who are looking to represent me as a client.

From my research behind colour schemes and their meanings I knew immediately the colours I wanted to primarily feature throughout all pages on my website. The colours of back, white and grey would be the structure for my website, this is due to their meanings of power, sophistication, independence and talent. These are the qualities that I felt best represent me as a power, and how I wanted to be reflected as a performer. The grouping of these three colours looked very clean,fresh and dramatic, again qualities that I carry on a personal level. Discovering the colour meanings have allowed be to recognise the importance of having my headshot on my front page (enter website) assisted by a background page of stage lights which adds an element of reflection and past experience as a theatrical actress.

The process after confirming my colour schemes I found simple, as Wix is easy to navigate around, it allowed me to create a website profficently. Overall the process has only taken a couple of months to create a website, this is due to me picking up the layout of Wix. Inserting images & my showreel I found straightforward also, alongside adding animation to text/images on my website to allow my website to stand out.

Once I finalised the credential pages required to make a successful website I then set myself personal targets aims, and work schedules to assure that my work was something I could be truly proud off. I spent time focusing on inserting an about me page, a cv page, a gallery page, a modelling page, a showreel page and a contact page which I feel are the most necessary pages for an actor to have, as it includes everything a casting director/agent would ask you for.

Throughout this whole process I have had the mindset off a casting director/agent looking at my website, which allowed me to not allow my personal opinion and criticisms to change my website. Looking at my site from another persons perspective has allowed me to realise it is not always about presentation, but the information and showcasing of true acting talent that is included.

Looking back on my website, and my tumblr blog I am very proud of what I achieved during this unit, I am very excited to see what the future holds for my upcoming life as an actress and how my website benefits my career.

Assessment checklist continued.

Have I been consistent with my presentation of my work?

The presentation of my work I believe has been superb from start to finish, I have expanded on knowledge within the industry with a fine tooth comb, and my layout and professionalism whilst documenting this has been faultless. The colour schemes and page backgrounds, font and border quality etc has remained identical throughout, with my Tumblr posts being formal and intellectual.

Have I proofread the information on my website?

I proofread all written elements within my tumblr posts, as well as the text included on my website, to assure I maintain a professional reputation with the desired spelling,punctuation and grammar.

Assessment 2 Checklist.

Have I developed a plan of action?

Planning ahead is something that I do thoroughly daily with all of my University assignments, script readings, play writing etc. As seen from my posts about my website schedule planning you can see how thorough my time management has been to achieving a first degree in this assignment.

Have I set personal targets?

Yes, as you can also see below I have set myself strict instructions of what work to be done on what days.

Have I attended and evidenced any live events, concerts,festivals or theatre shows?

Yes I have recently been to watch a live performance of the musical Sweeney Todd at our sister theatre the everyman, with my classmate Megan Burns. I recently watched an adaptation of 9 to 5 in the Epstein theatre also, which I enjoyed.

Have I participated in and evidenced any live events,concerts,festivals or theatre shows?

I have attended a professional headshot and glamour shoot recently off the talented michelle george in London (see headshot posts earlier in my posts.) I have also been involved in a number of short films within LMA utilizing the fantastic film and tv students that we have around our two grreat campus buildings( more information about this on my showreel section/filming independent project post.)

Have I contacted industry professionals asking for advice and tips on websites and career development?

As you can see below I have attached some examples of conversation that I have had with Scot Williams, my current director and leading professional. The conversation examples I have included show me asking Scot for help with formatting my CV, alongside me querying types of agents to approach to come watch my showcase and my final performance.

I have also attached an example of an email I have been sent discussing representation from a casting company named BMA agents.

Have I included evidence of Industry networking?

Yes I have been networking by contacting various agencies regarding representation, this is a way of me becoming noticed within the industry.

Have I evidenced relatable work created by professionals within the Industry?

Researching into professionals within the industry is documented thoroughly throughout this blog, I explore all details of what goes into showcasing yourself as a professional actor.

Have I justified my original personal targets and maybe discovered new avenues for employment?

Yes I have served my strict targets very well, as my planning has paid off very efficiently, alongside documenting information for my About me section on the page it became clear to me that I hadn't showcased myself as a model, even though I am currently with a casting agency. This then led me to creating a seperate modelling page, and mentioning this throughout my website.

Have I critically evaluated my own work?

Yes, there has been times throughout this process there has been room for improvement, maybe being a little bit too hard on myself at times I have always been aware of what works and what doesn't, as I can quickly recognise it and adjust any changes necessary.

Have I proofread my blog?

Yes I spend time daily proofreading, spell checking and asking people for opinions on my work as it means a lot to me to receive personal opinions.

Have I used Harvard referencing format and academic language in my blog, reference list/ bibliography?

Since I began my degree at LMA, I have always used (www.citeme.com 2019) for my Harvard referencing as it gives you a clean layout for your bibliography which I have found very beneficial over the years.

Yes, I have chosen a high platform for my website, showcasing myself and my talent to the best of my ability.

I have maintained the same colour schemes to run throughout every page on my website having researched the meanings of colour at the beginning of my professional portfolio research.

4.) Have i developed a showreel evidencing current and previous material of myself in LMA productions and personal projects?

As you can see from earlier documented posts regarding my showreel journey I have spent a long time exporting past footage of myself from LMA productions that I feel I am heavily featured in, and showcase my talent. Along with rehearsing and shooting independent projects suitable to be put in my actors showreel.

 Showreel page: The conversion from desktop to mobile for my showreel page was very straight forward, as it is simply an insert of one clip on my marble background. CV- The transition of my CV page to mobile format was very straight forward, as my CV is a screenshot (a picture) so was easy to maneuver into a central position on this page of my website. I assured my download cv button was included in mobile format, to allow my website viewers to keep my CV within their personal phones. 
Home Button - I also came across the importance of adding a home/menu bar to each of the pages on my website, as there is no home bar at the top of my website like their is on my desktop version. When adding this icon to my website I made sure that the colours would be black and white in order to fit in with my colour scheme, whilst looking professional. Social actions- I have included a black and white tab at the bottom of my modelling page including contact details ( email and phone number) supported by a envelope and telephone icon.

Modelling Page- Transferring my version of my modelling page off my desktop website to mobile format was very simple. My text remained in the same place whilst my images are now in a grid layout, as you have to scroll down the page to see more pictures as opposed to seeing them all on the screen on my desktop version.

Gallery page - I feel the only issue I had whilst creating my gallery page was due to the animation of the 3D carousel which displays my acting and glamour headshots, as I was unable to edit the size of this, despite it being the perfect size on my desktop version, however I assured on the settings behind my carousel I would include an expand on all of these images. This means when viewers click on a desired image the picture will become bigger on the screen. All of my live images below were included in a grid, with the option to scroll down to view more. I grouped all of my film/tv images at the start of the page, followed by my theatrical images. This is to showcase a rank of interest between filmed and live performances, as I primarily want to feature in tv and film.

Contact Page- I have expanded the size of my glamour headshot within my contact page, as I wanted to create a lasting impression for the viewers of my website, as this is more than likely the last page they view before closing down my website. Everything included on the desktop version of my contact page is identical to how it is presented in a mobile version. The only change is the need for my website viewers to have to scroll down the page to see my contact details as opposed to the whole contact bar fitting on one screen via the desktop version.

Above I have shown examples of screenshots from how my website has been converted to a mobile friendly format. As you can see from the screenshots, Wix shows you exactly how your pages within your website will look when viewed on a phone. The layout of a mobile phone they have used is an IPhone which I personally think is one of the worlds most popular phones, which really helps to see what the layout would Look like on one of these. I have used the same page background throughout the mobile version of my website in order to Maintain my websites continuity. The themes of white an black marble still run throughout, along with the different shades of grey that feature on my desktop website.

Having a menu tab allows my website users to have a full use of the navigation between all pages they would like to browse.

All my pages have stayed the same as my desktop version, however things such as font size, image size and animations have been reduced in order to be compatible with mobile viewings. I have shown examples off this in my about section (picture above). I reduced the size of text in my about section due to there being a lot of information on this page, however viewers can scroll down to read more information, as opposed to it all being on one page as seen on the desktop version of my about me page.

Here marie lists the 11 advantages of making your website mobile friendly, above I have attached the examples that I found the most interesting, and have taken away for when I am making the change to my website. Marie gives examples of well known websites within their mobile format, as you can see they are very straightforward to navigate around and easily accessible. This is something that is crucial happens within my website, as I need my viewers to have the most pleasant viewing experience possible, to then later contacting me. People will be more inclined to get in touch with me if my website also looks professional on a mobile phone/ ipad for example, as the majority of casting directors and agents are on the move, so it is convenient to view actors websites in this format.

Converting my website to be accessible to view on mobile phones.

These next posts within my website journal will be documenting my research and creation process of adapting my website from a standard desktop version to a mobile friendly version, accessible for all my website viewers. One of my first steps into creating my mobile version was conducting my own research on the benefits of mobile website optimization. I came across an interesting online article by  Marie Morales for (Virtualassistanttalent.com, 2017). Here Marie highlights the importance of converting your website over to mobile friendly.

My Modelling.

The next posts will be dedicated to my interest of modelling and how I want elements of my past experiences modelling showcased on my website. Modelling is something that I have been interested in for a while, and it never crossed my mind to do a separate page on my website for modelling until recently. This is similar to my past posts were I discussed how I added in my interest for modelling and commercials to my about me page, were I explained my interest in the two. It has became clear too me how versatille you need to be when breaking into the industry, you have to be employable on all factors, so I have dedicated a page on my website to modelling as It is something that I feel I could really succeed in, due to my self care and maintenance of my appearance I have always loved being in front of the lens,as I am very photogenic.

My contact page.

This post will be dedicated to my personal contact page on my website and how I have set it on, alongside the reasons for doing so.  (Editor.wix.com, 2019) Attached below I have gave examples of how i have layed out elements of my contact page. 

Here you can see the size of the font I have included, in the colour black in bold, to allow it to stand out. I have spoke in the third person as I have used my name Alexandra as I feel that it sounds more professional.

As you can see beside the text I have attached Vector art which is an add-on from vix somewhat like a cartoon. The pictures are of a phone and a envelope referring to a mobile contact number and email. I have included this vector art to allow snippets of my youth to show through, showing my playful and fun side, which I feel is important as an actress.

I have also added a social icon to my contact page, which is Instagram, as I dont have nay other format of social media. However Instagram is a company that is forever expanded and is one of the most popular apps worldwide.

This is my first draft of my contact page, I have kept my background the same to maintain the continuity of the website to keep a sophisticated and stylistic feel to it. Whilst inserting one of my headshots from a glamour shoot, which I feel is one of my strongest images of myself, which is why I have included it on the contact page. With this in mind I added some animation to the image that can be seen when viewers click on “Contact Alexandra”on the home bar.

Below is the animation I have attached to my image, I have chosen a fade in animation to create a dramatic effect for my contact page. This reflects who I am on a personal level, as well as an actress, I like to do things purely for effect.

In an online blog from Wix on  “ 8 Awesome Design Tricks to Grab Your Visitors’ Attention”  (www.wix.com, 2017) they discuss methods of drawing attention t your website, this is why I have attached animation throughout my website to stand out from the crowd.

In addition to this I have linked the vector art icons to my own email address and phone number, so when viewers of my website click onto the icons they will be able to directly contact me as well as completing the contact form.

Below is my final version of my contact page, as shown on the image above I have thickened my borders around my contact form to allow it to stand out more and follow my direct colour scheme that flows throughout my website.

When viewers of my website hover over the contact form there will be a light grey background in the box were they can type, this colour fits into my pattern flowing throughout the website, and looks fantastic against white and black.

The importance of having a contact page.

In an online article for WPForms Lisa Gennaro discusses “Tips, and Resources to Help Grow Your Business.” Here lisa focuses on 8 beneficial factors of having a contact page included within your website. Below I have attached examples of some of the points that I found beneficial when reading her article.

As mentioned in my earlier post, having a contact form shows viewers “you are available” which Lisa has also picked up on when conducting her own research and writing this article.

Lisa has confirmed for me here the importance of having a contact form to make it easy for your users, as the majority of people who view my website will be my desired target audience which is casting directors/agents. With this is mind its crucial my contact form is as simple and clear as possible in order for casting professionals to be interested in contacting me.

Lisa in point #5 gives an example of a suitable contact form for your website, which is similar to what I had in mind for my own website. This is due to its professional and stylistic appearance.

Researching Contact Pages within a Actors website(examples)

In this next post I will be documenting the process of  researching how to create a contact page for my website and the importance of doing so.

This example I found of american actor Ben Whitehair has a different layout of contact page, one that I have never seen before, however the way his contact page has been layed out indicates he means business. This is due to the questions asked within the contact field, for example “reason for contacting”which is extremely direct, personally I wouldn't include that element within my contact page, as it is far too impulsive for me. Despite this I like the way Ben features fields for viewers of his site to enter information into, as I feel that shows how open to questions and queries you can be. I feel that is something I will be including within my website.

Browsing other actors websites I came across 3 example websites that I have attached below. These three websites all list the actors representative, which as this point I do not have, as I am seeking representation after I finish my degree in order to primarily focus on getting the most suited agent to me and not rushing. However, these actors are already established so have listed there agents, as opposed to including their personal information.

I came across this particular actors website when browsing Wix, I like this layout, however not the colours. I have noticed he has included representation which I cannot on my website, yet I like the way he has kept contact options open. Personally I feel that this is warm and welcoming for people to personally contact you, as this shows how approachable you are which reflects well when working with people in the industry.

About Me Section of my website.

I will now be concentrating on the About me section of my website, this is the first section of information the viewers of my website will see after clicking the “enter site” button to gain further access into my website. I spent some time researching into other Actors “about me” sections of their websites to gain a further understanding of what information would need to be included. This gave me a greater understanding of what to write about within my about me section.

On my about page I have included some animation, as you can see from the screenshot above, my image and text will glide onto the screen when viewers click and enter my website. I have included a subtle animation to maintain a clean and sophisticated look to my website, which reflects me as an actress.

Above is an example of my first draft of my about me page without any animation included, I spent some time editing this section of my website. After adding animation, I then re read my information that describes me as a performer, and I realised there was something missing. I discovered this was a failure to mentioning my desire to act on commercials, alongside modelling. Straight away I edited my text, whilst highlighting my interest in these particular lines of work. Immediately I felt better having covered this on my about page, as it highlights the exact kind of work I want to be involved in as soon as viewers enter my website. Overall this will make me much more employable, as commercials and modelling shoots are ever growing to becoming more poplar, so it was crucial I highlighted my interest revolving them.

Something else I focused on was the spelling and grammar of this section of my website, this is to assure I came across and intellectual and intelligent as possible, whilst showing a great knowledge of my desired field. One online programme that helped me achieve this is shown above, it is called Online Thesaurus and it has helped me a great deal editing my about me section.
