Saïx wondered if a day would ever pass when he wouldn’t ponder why he fell prey to such insanity. Less recklessness on missions would certainly be a fine start. Normally he could shrug off giant Heartless beating on him like a bongo drum but this last batch struck a bit too hard and right in a tender spot, leaving him to limp back to the castle. His hip aggravated, Xemnas deemed it necessary to put Saïx on mild duty until recovery, if only to prevent further mishaps. Saïx tried to point out that if a certain someone hadn’t broken his hip he wouldn’t have these risks but a sharp glare from the younger Xehanort silenced his complaint.
Now here he was, in Ansem’s room of all damn places. He would use my inability to walk well to his advantage, the bastard. He could only assume Kingdom Hearts took pity on him and thus he was left in the Guardian’s care while Ansem joined Xemnas in whatever idiotic scheme they concocted. Since wandering off was not an option, he contented himself with the excess pillows and blankets piled by his side. The room was quiet and dark as the Realm of Darkness itself and Saix took solace in the fact that at least no one would bother him while here.
“I don’t eat hearts,” he muttered. He was sprawled out on his back on one of the larger cushions, watching what few hearts existed float about like leaves on a gentle wind. “Nobodies have different needs. These won’t sustain me.”
Saïx was making noises again. Was that good or bad? Guardian wasn’t sure. They weren’t loud noises, but it was better to check.
Muscular form and glowing yellow eyes materialised out of the gloom next to the nest he had carefully built for the injured seeker. Communicating was difficult: they weren’t connected like himself and Ansem, or on a lesser level Heartless generally. But Guardian tried twitching his antennae in an inquiring manner anyway.

How to care for Guardian: he loves to be climbed on by the littles! Bring him anything shiny that might be food. If it's not food, then it's a toy, and Heartless are surprisingly playful! When it is naptime, find a nice dark place where many Heartless can curl up together and form a big, sleeping Heartless pile. Y'know, like cats do.
*happy antennae twitches*Tiny Heartless has learned all its lessons well and Guardian is extra pleased.

@lunarvessel
(crack thread can go on Guardian’s blog I guess)
Every time Saïx wandered off, Guardian would track him down (it didn’t take long, he wasn’t in any state to go far) and patiently deposit him back on the couch in Ansem’s room. Then he would disappear and come back not long after with something to make the nest more comfortable in hopes that Saïx would stay put this time. By this point several squishy cushions had been added to the pile. It was very dark in the room already, but the world between could always do with being darker as far as Guardian was concerned, so he had also brought back several more blankets to hide under. There were even a few hearts floating around, pulsing with darkness, because once a warm, soft, dark place to sleep was taken care of, food was right next on the list of important needs and maybe Saïx was wandering off because he was hungry?
Nothing seemed to work though, and most concerning to Guardian was that he was ignoring the food.

Now the tiny Shadow can see a lot more, and hide behind a much bigger Heartless if necessary. And Guardian has an extra pair of eyes and more claws and teeth (they are small, but even so it is something). Teamwork!
She probably won’t fall off, there is plenty to cling onto up there. Now to go hunting! He can teach Rose what real food looks like!
💪 (Guardian is going to pick up tiny Heartless Rose. She can sit on his head and look for food from high up!)
She’s getting used to being picked up by this Heartless, and chirps amicably as she is placed on his head. Her world just became a whole lot bigger!

Guardian wants to take a closer look, but it’s a long way down. The best option here is obviously to pick the small Heartless herself up and hold her at eye level. The shiny thing is very tiny, and anyway she might object to him trying to take it off her.
Unfortunately it is only a shiny thing, not a shiny and tasty thing. He might have to go over the finer points of things that are food and things that are not food with her. But maybe it was important to some heart, somewhere. And not having it could cause that heart to feel all sorts of things, like anxiety or sorrow or anger, and those emotions were tasty. It wasn’t bad that she had taken it, even if it did mean they were stuck with a not-food-thing that caught the tiny amounts of light here in a very annoying way.
@tinysatanrosemary
(sorry, epic premature posting/ask messup!)
Heartless baby Rose looks up at Guardian, her antenna twitching slightly. She wants to show off a bauble she has found, but she’s not too sure about this bigger Heartless yet.
Larger Heartless are for the most part entirely content to have their smaller brethren around, or even climbing all over them, and Guardian is no exception. Rose’s approach doesn’t get much more than a curious antenna twitch: she’s a bit small to be playfully pounced on yet. Maybe she’s hungry? Even if she isn‘t, she should eat something. How else is she going to grow up big and strong?

Thanks to the one pointed and all consuming instincts of a Heartless, it isn’t long before he gets his wish and Guardian is frantically circling Ansem in pursuit of a small but very stubbornly resistant heart. It’s red and shiny, what else could it be? What will it taste like? How does it move so fast?
alexisskotoy:
There is something that looks like a very tiny heart on the wall, and Guardian is going to pounce on it.
When he’s done the heart isn’t there, and neither is a chunk of the wall. How did he miss? Wait, no, there it is. Okay maybe not, and there is a hole in the floor now, but next time…
(Ansem is trying to stay cool, but his face is twitching as his eyes obsessively track the small red dot.)
And the dot continues to dart left and right and around and around…
Maybe if he tries carefully he can get this Heartless to spin around like it’s chasing its tail.
(Ansem can suffer. Suffer.)

Put that thing away before you get Ansem and Guardian doing regrettably cute things.

Guardian would though. Like any big mother predator: carrying him around between nests, bringing food, trying to teach him how to hunt, and being hugely terratorial and protective.

If Ansem was happy, Guardian was happy too. He didn’t particularly care about the lives and worlds they might ruin in the process. Humans tended to try and hurt his master, even if most of them were laughably bad at it. If this meant his master was happy and there would be more hearts to eat and more Heartless around it could only be a good thing!
Guardian isn't sure about this "demon" thing. On the one hand, Ansem now has antennae(?) like a real Pureblood, and that is very good. On the other, the wings are kind of in his way. (alexisskotoy)

Ansem wasn’t oblivious to his Guardian’s sudden discomfort, for they basically were attached to each other (literally at times). He wished he could reassure the other that this newfound power was a good thing, that they could gain more hearts to eat and such. And more people’s lives to throw away for fun. How wonderful~! He hoped Guardian understood his feelings about this.
But to make sure, he gave the Heartless a reassuring grin (if by ‘reassuring grin’, he meant a wild sneer of excitement, which was what it WAS) and straightened his shoulders. Perhaps the other would like to have a feast right now! Off to gather hearts, but this time, at a faster pace!

*eyes the Heartless suspiciously*
He is going to eye Xemnas back suspiciously. Encounters with his master’s Nobody tended to go in the direction of being prodded with something. Guardian can appreciate the spirit of enquiry, but persisting on something after discovering the all important distinction between food and not-food seems excessive.

This human doesn’t have a keyblade, so it isn’t much of a challenge. The bites might as well have come from a gnat, and would only get a mouthful of darkness anyway.
Guardian lifts the squirmy human up to eye level to inspect it. It had a very important decision to make now: keep, eat, or squish?
Darkness does taste disgusting, and Rose has to give up on biting to squirm some more. Squirming doesn’t seem to do anything, so she’s just stuck there looking at the ugly face. She tries to spit at it.
That is probably the weakest water attack Guardian has ever seen, and it is extremely disappointed. This human has a lot of darkness though. Maybe he should bring it to Ansem?
Or just eat its heart, that would be good too. And it would mean more Heartless kin, and that would be more fun than a squishy human.
Screams at for no reason.
There’s actually plenty of reason to scream when encountering Guardian, so it is used to this by now. Humans are strange and loud. Screaming usually means either threat or prey though, so it is going to try and grab her.

*pats Guardian on the head*
Pats from Ansem! This is the best day ever!
Not that Guardian, like most pureblood Heartless, has a very good concept of time. There is no time in the Realm of Darkness, after all. Still he is very happy with the attention, and while his expression is largely fixed his antennae twitch downwards in a lazy, satisfied way.
