The full Moon of October is the "HUNTER'S MOON", named so for it occurring when it is time to start preparing and preserving meat for the Winter.

The game itself is fattened up for Winter so hunting is optimal. This is also why some call the October full Moon BLOOD MOON or SANGUINE MOON, for the spilled animal blood. Other names for this Moon include TRAVEL MOON, and DYING GRASS MOON.

October 2024 moon is also a SUPERMOON, a full moon appearing larger than usual, because it's actually physically a bit closer to Earth.

🌕 PINK MOON of APRIL 🌕 The full Moon of April is the "Pink Moon", named so for the Wild Ground Phlox flowers that are known to cover the ground like a thick pink blanket.

Some other names for the April full Moon include: ▫️FISH MOON – as fish tend to be plentiful during this time; ▫️EGG MOON – as birds start to lay eggs in plenty; ▫️SPROUTING GRASS MOON – as the Spring ground sprouts grass.

🌕 CROW MOON of MARCH 🌕

The full Moon of March has several names connected to it. Some of the more popular ones are:

⚪ SAP MOON – as March is the time to tap maple trees ⚪ CRUST MOON – as the thawing snow forms a crusty surface on the ground ⚪ WORM MOON – as warmer ground brings on the earthworms to the surface ⚪ CROW MOON – as crow cawing is heard signaling end of Winter ⚪ EATH MOON – as it is the last full Moon in Winter ⚪ CHASTE MOON – as this Moon heralds the birth of Spring, time of rejuvenation and light ⚪ LANTEN MOON - because the Christian calendar cites the time from Ash Wednesday in February, to Easter Sunday in April, as the season of Lent.

🌕 SNOW MOON of FEBRUARY 🌕

The full Moon in February is the “Snow Moon”, named after the typically most snowy month of the year.

Once about every 19 years, February does not have a Full Moon, making it a Black Moon month. Instead, January and March have two Full Moons each, creating a double Blue Moon. Blue Moon refers to the "extra" full Moon, or typically the third of four full Moons in a season, or a month with a second full Moon.

🌕 WOLF MOON of JANUARY 🌕

The first full Moon of the year is the “Wolf Moon”, named after the howling wolves that were traditionally heard most during this winter month.

Some of the other names for this month’s full Moon are OLD MOON, ICE MOON, SNOW MOON, and the Moon after Yule.

Leaving my ETSY on June 30th: STRAWBERRY MOON, glow-in-the-dark artwork

The full moon of June is usually referred to as "Strawberry Moon" named so because wild strawberries that ripen in plenty this month. Some other names for June full moon include: 🌕 ROSE MOON - as most roses bloom this month 🌕 HOT MOON - as it was the beginning of Summer heat 🌕 MEAD MOON - as it was time for moving the meads, or meadows.. and drinking of mead 🌕 HONEY MOON - due to ancient European marriage customs related to Summer Solstice, and drinking of mead (honey wine).

My artwork for MAY is "Fallen Moon", a very floral piece and one of my favorite pieces I created last year. It's one of the very few artworks currently available outside of this calendar.

Originating as an art project and favoring the lesser-known Slavic mythology owing to my Polish heritage, this pocket reference book provides summarized information and an illustration on each subject, including various alternate names of the creatures. It's new year and new art calendar for me to forget to post here on time. 🖤 "FOREST SPRIRIT" is my artwork for January and one of my favorite dryads. The original ink drawing of her was only 4" x 6", and actually went to a new loving home a few years ago. I wonder how she's doing and whether her current owner knows of this much larger color version in this calendar.

Both of these artworks are ink drawings I completed while relaxing by a lake, surrounded by forest, with wild flowers blooming in front of me, all while staying in a haunted cottage with a graveyard beside it. It was magical and I wanted to capture some of this magic with my art.
