The increasing popularity of Spanish and Latin music.
When a Song is mentioned a click on the song will lead to the Youtube video.
In the past years, a significant amount of downloads and streams have been related to the Spanish/Latin pop music. In 2015 only four songs which have been sung in Spanish have made it to the international “HOT 100″ charts list. The ““HOt 100 is a list of Songs which have very recently published and received a quickly growing popularity. In 2016 only three songs have made it on this playlist. When comparing these number to 2017 with 19 songs on the HOt 100 list it can clearly be said, That the Spanish/Latin music gained more awareness and popularity by the people globally each year.
But how did that happen?
One of the most important reasons for this growing popularity is the Top number one song Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. This songs gained on Youtube more than 5 billion views and is since then one of the most watched videos on the streaming platform. Moreover, since July 2017 is the song on Spotify the most streamed song of all time. Several sources have shown that this Song set the ball rolling and is the origin of the growth. Another reason is still the song mentioned above but in this case a second version with the collaboration of Justin Bieber who is a Canadian music artist. Justin Bieber is worldwide known as the number one pop singer from Canada. Because of the collaboration did the song also gained many followers in the united states and Justin Bieber's home country, Canada. Therefore, can the collaboration of Justin Bieber be seen as a push factor of the popularity of the Song and also the genre itself.
What did Despacito effect?
Since the release of despacito did the popularity for Spanish/Latin music, which is called reggaeton, grow increasingly. As it is stated by the streaming platform Spotify, “Latin music, in particular, the reggaeton genre, with its addictive, start-stop beat has expanded far beyond its places of origin to become a global genre that regularly tops the charts.” The reggaeton rhythm influenced since then many songs even though they are not in the same type of genre. One of the best examples is “Shape of you by Ed Sheeran.” The start-stop rhythm can also be found in the second most played song on Spotify. More songs with the known reggaeton rhythm are the following:  OneRepublic’s “No Vacancy,” Sia’s “Cheap Thrills,” Justin Bieber’s “Sorry,” recent tracks by Major Lazer, and French Montana’s “Unforgettable,” which then came back to the Latin scene with a Latin Remix by J Balvin. The shares of Spotify songs listed to the reggaeton genre have increased within 3 years up to 119%. Compared to the pop shares (13%) and the country shares (4%) is the popularity of Reagaton music increasing strongly. Since the release of despacito and the growing popularity of reggaeton, did a new type of music form over time. ” Latin trap ” is currently gaining awareness. The Type is a mix between electronic beats and a Reggaeton rhythm
