What were your success and failures? This week I successfully finished assignment 4! I think I handed in a strong assignment and I am happy that I stuck with my topic, even though it was difficult at times. Unfortunetly, my ohotos did not print as bright as I had processed them but I think I still had a good set. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I was motivated by all the different ways we have utilized technology through different generations. The progression of technology is the most fasinating part, especially how quickly it has developed. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I am looking at Damon Winter. These photos are from his 2015 piece, "California Drought Tests History of Endless Growth". I love how he contrasts his color. His pulled back shots are captivating and his different points of veiws keep every shot interesting. What are your responses and conclusions regarding the previous class critique of your work? Was it or was it not helpful? ( on weeks applicable ) In critique this week, we fiddled around with the arrangment of my photos. This changed the perspective of my series from how I intended to show them but I agreed with the class in the end. The new arrangment kept the photos interesting and got the message that I was trying to send in the best way possible.

What were your success and failures? This week I think I improved at taking photos of screens, which has turned out to be much more difficult than I had intended. However, I would like to improve in the dramatics of my lighting, outside of the subject of each image. It is hard to do this but I think I can improve it. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I am motivated by my daily uses of technology. I am noticing how much I personally use it and how impactful it really is. These three photos taken this week are ways that I use technology daily. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I am looking at work by Christopher Griffith. This piece is called Foot Soliders and it is comprised of images of New York City's shoe shiners' hands. He really captured the wear and tear in each one of the photos. The decision to have a black back drop and colorful towels use to shine the shoes is powerful.

What were your success and failures? This week I was successful in choosing a topic for my final assignment. I am going to be working on a piece about how technology plays a role in our lives. I like these ideas so far but I am not sure it captures the best I am trying to execute. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I am motivated by the immense impact that technology has had on our lives. We see it everywhere! We use it everywhere! Taking a step back to really notice how frequently we use and rely on it is very interesting. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I am looking at Newsha Tavakolian. These photos are from a series that she did about women in Syria who are taking over the fight against ISIS. Taking over the take of war that their country is in could make a huge impact on the lives of women and women's rights. I love this piece because the work matters. It sends a message that needs to be heard.

What were your success and failures? This week I was successful in presenting four final images for assignment 3. I utilized light and color well and also was able to transform spaces into new worlds. I improved in my focus quality but was not 100% in all of my photos. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I was very motivated in the idea of having my set of images compliment one another. I really tried to make sure they were a good representation of the look I was trying to present. After shooting two shots successfully inside my house, I was motivated to finish the set likewise. I feel it gives the impression of a confusing household to the veiwer. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I am looking at Vivian Mier. Mier's work is comprised of fantastic self-portraits. Although my images are not self portraits, the are related tp Mier's work through her abilty to transform enviornments. What are your responses and conclusions regarding the previous class critique of your work? Was it or was it not helpful? ( on weeks applicable ) I was nervous for this week's critique because I think this assignment was a bit out of my confort zone. However, my critue went much better than my excpectations. I am very pleased with the comments and the advice I was given in the future. Focus, was a critique that I know must be improved in the future.

What were your success and failures? This week I was successfull in setting u three shots! I am very excited to process them because I think they are good shots are confusing to the eye. I need to work on focusing. I think I too close to my subjects so I need to back up and find what will work for these images. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I am continueing to use mirrors to confuse my audience. I really like how light can be manipulated with mirrors to confuse our eyes and I am excited to continue. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I am looking at Florence Henry. I love how she is able to take simple, household objects and transform them into constructed images. I have tried to relate this to my work by attempting to create space that isnt in the frame of the shot.

What were your success and failures? This week I had a successful session in the studio. Successful in the fact that I learned how to position my pieces and I started utilizing mirrors, which are perfect for this assignment. However, I dont think the images I shot this week will be good for my final submission of assignment three. I would like to reshoot them with better lighting to make them more dramatic. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I am motivated by the idea of using mirrors to project images from a world that is not in the frame. I tried to do this but I think I will have more success with this in the upcoming week. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I have been looking at Sophie Calle and Lorena Cosba. Both of them use black and white in a lot of their work, Even though I may not use black and white, I like how they use simple things like thread and sheets to create shapes and figures in their images.

What were your success and failures? This week we started Assignment 3, constructed images. We used my camera for our demo last week in class so I was fortunate enought to have those on my camera to look at. I was successful in analyzing how to take these photos and how other artists have found success with it. I was unable to get into the studio this week and found that trying to take these images were quite difficultwithout the studio lighting. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week, my work has been motivated by the confusing aspect of this assignment. I am interested to see how I can confuse my audience What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? I have been looking at the artist Jean Faucheur. I really love the way she is able to capture human subjects in her constructed images. I am going to try to relate this to my work or even just the aspect of the human world.

What were your success and failures? This week I succeeded in finalizes my second assignment for this class. I feel as if my portrait strength grew over the past few week and I am very happy about that. I failed in replacing my athletic photos from last week with an equally interesting subject but it still has a narrative. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I was motivated by my subects again! I still find it very exciting to place that how I feel is best and then see that, even if it seemed a bit uncomfortable, the photos came out very nice. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I was looking at Massimo Brugnetti. I was attracted to the way that he captures is portraits and tells a story, even if the background does not have anything contributing to that story. I feel like this relates to my work of the public safety officer. What are your responses and conclusions regarding the previous class critique of your work? Was it or was it not helpful? I agreed that the public safety officer was my weakest photograph for this critue. However, I was so entralled to hear such good responses to my work overall. I feel like I really accomplished something and I am so excited to continue it.

What were your success and failures? I beleive that I had a very successful week! I was very fortunate with weather this week and was able to shoot outdoors alot. I feel like I improved alot in the narratives of my photos. However, I would like to improve in variety of my shots because I feel as if I did not thrive in this regards. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I was very motivated! I feel as if I am finally able to express my subjects' personalities through photography. My subject's reactions to their photos REALLY inspired me. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I fell in love with Whitley Isa's photos. I love the way that she captures color and integrates different perspectives into her shots. I tried to relate these different perspectives into my own work. What are your responses and conclusions regarding the previous class critique of your work? Was it or was it not helpful? ( on weeks applicable ) I was a bit disappointed that my athletic photos were not chosen for critique but ecstatic that my other three were.

What were your success and failures? This week I succeeded in getting better quality photos but unfortunetly I failed at getting portraits that were substantial. I am lacking substance in these photos and it is evident to me. I experimented with lighting this week and realized that I much enjoyed tweaking natural sunlight than articifial lighting. I think I have a better understanding now of how I should tackle this assignment so I am ready to get started on that this upcoming week. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? This week I tried to get photos that showed the subject's personality and let them shine through the photos. I think this was good practice but I need to implement a better enviornment for my subjects to be in. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? This week I have been looking at photos by Chayu Chien. I tried to work with different lighting tactics that he used in the above photos. I wasnt not completely successful at all but it was good practice.

What were your success and failures? This week I had my first attempt at taking portraits and it was much more challenging than I thought. This week I photographed indoors and tried to get a sense of which lighting works best in which places. Some of my photos appeared darker than I had hoped but I succeeded in really focusing on my subject. What are the issues and ideas that are motivating your work this week? Some ideas that have been motivating me are getting my subject in a natural setting. However, I find this difficult to tell the proper narrative. I enjoy taking photos that showed a relationship between the person and the photographer, which I hope to have done through my photos. What artists are you looking at? How do these relate to the work you are making? I have been looking at Ronnie Flacko's photography. I admire his ability to capture his subject in an interesting enviornent while not allowing the backgrounds to distract from his portraits. Some of his shots are a bit less conventional portraits but they still work. I hope to improve in this area
