Viral Intervention: Final Documentation
Our purpose for the project was to show how big businesses globally push out small businesses, and how important it is to support them. Back in the Medieval Era, there was such struggle and strife as many break their backs to support themselves and family while the lords live off their labor. Much like today. Yet, the Medieval era showed vibrance and diversity as many small businesses thrived. This was why we built our stand, which resembled a stand from the Middle Ages.
We wanted our project to be daring, after all our words “Resist Revoke Global Businesses” was daring enough. That was why we chose a public space like the park to disrupt such an open area, and have people question their everyday lives.
Since corporations notoriously pump microplastics and toxicity into our food, we wanted to create a commentary on that. Our food was ironic. We sold rocks and wood painted as oranges, tomatoes, and bread. These were inorganic things disguised as organic, a way to show the irony of what these big businesses sell to us that they label as “food.”
This project was not only eye opening for those who approached our Medieval stand, but for us as well. It made us realize how much small businesses are the backbone of our economy, and how we must resist global businesses and revoke them from making us play into their corrupt monopoly.

Viral Intentions: Propose
Inspiration:

Our ideas for the project was to provoke and make people question in a public space--specifically where many cannot avoid seeing it. There had to be intensity and provocation in what we present to the world, which was why one of our ideas was to put signs around different isles. We also had another idea to create a rotating box sign that displayed our words. Our final idea was also making a logo sticker, where we can place them publicly around streets and poles much like the inspiration showed above.

VIRAL INTENTIONS: PRESENT
Intent:
The state of the world is clear: government systems around the world are controlled by corporations and greedy politicians that do not benefit the ordinary person. The intent behind this is to defy the global systems and make the ordinary person question the people who run behind it. We chose the business school here at FIU, because it is a breeding ground for corporate America that run our government system here. This is our way of protest, to raise questions and awareness of why our oligarchy system does not work. We workshopped around different words, but the pattern of seeing how corrupt the systems are was very clear.

Rapunzel
Framing the body
60 x 25 inches
The idea of this project is to create a story. I was inspired by the Medieval era of history, and I wanted to incorporate the classical retelling of the fairytale, Rapunzel. I wanted to trap myself in the project, just like the main character was caged in the story as a representation for the words “to cover.” I did not want to romanticize this story like many have before me, and instead I wanted to incorporate the darkness that the Medieval ages were quite known for in this piece. It was quite ambitious, perhaps too ambitious for me as I witnessed trials and tribulations to complete this piece. But in a way, the piece had its own fairytale happy ending like Rapunzel had as I realize that along the way of this great difficulty, it made me realize that obstacles will be put in place but you just need to find a way to escape it to reach the final destination like Rapunzel did in the story.
