Back in school

Hello everyone!

Sadly we are back in school now. I liked Prague better, but fun can’t last forever right? 

I’ve been back for a little more than one week and looking back at the great adventures we had in Prague I really miss it there. It were three amazing weeks with four awesome fellow students. I feel like I learned a lot, I became more independent and my language skills also improved. I also learned a couple of Czech words and sentences like “pivo” which means “beer” and “Pro mě prosím pivo.” which means “For me a beer please.”

I will for sure visit Prague again sometime soon but for now I will have to study for school and be an exemplary student again. 

This was my final blog post I hoped you enjoyed following all my adventures!

Home sweet home

Hallo volgertjes

Vandaag om 13 uur is ons vliegtuig veilig geland op de luchthaven van Zaventem en rond 15 uur kon ik terug lekker in mijn eigen zetel gaan liggen.

Enerzijds ben ik blij dat ik terug thuis ben maar ook bedroefd want het was een geweldige stage, we hebben goed gelachen en veel nieuwe ervaringen opgedaan zowel op het werk als in het huishouden. Ik was ook heel tevreden met mijn medestudenten in Praag dus ik wil ze ook graag alle 4 bedanken voor deze onvergetelijke stage.

Bedankt dat jullie mijn avonturen mee wilde beleven via mijn blog, het was echt top!

Final day 😔

Today is our final day which is very sad because we have a lot of fun here and we want to stay longer. The other boys and I didn’t have to work this Friday so yesterday we had another boys night. Unfortunately there was no more beer in the apartment so we went to the Orange bar again. After that we went to the club James Dean and I was kindly welcomed as a VIP.

This morning the girls had to wake up early because they had to work until 12 o’clock and Vince, Mats and I woke up around 12 so we decided to go to the McDonalds. Now we are going to clean the apartment because we won’t have time for that tomorrow and this evening we are going to a restaurant and also to the fair. We are gonna make the best out of this final day.

I hope we will have a safe flight tomorrow and I’ll see you guys soon!

Het laatste volledige weekend

Hallo volgertjes

Dit weekend hebben we weer veel gedaan en ook goed uitgeslapen. Vrijdag avond waren we weer eens naar de club James Dean geweest, we hadden een goede avond gehad maar nu hebben we die club ook wel gezien. Zaterdag hebben we allemaal goed uitgeslapen zodat we fris naar The Gallery of Steel Figures konden gaan, dit is een museum met allemaal bekende filmpersonages of andere voorwerpen zoals auto’s gemaakt uit gerecycleerd staal. Het was heel cool om de verschillende personages te zien, zeker een aanrader om eens binnen te springen.

Zaterdag avond was het mannenavond we zijn naar 2 verschillende clubs geweest, in de eerste was er niet veel volk waardoor het daar niet zo leuk was. We besloten dus om naar een andere club te gaan genaamd Chapeau Rouge, dit was een ondergrondse club waar ze techno draaide. Hier was het al heel wat beter en er was ook goedkoper bier.

Zondag hebben we weeral uitgeslapen en zodra iedereen wakker was hebben de jongens het appartement gepoetst van de avond ervoor. Om 15u besloten we om naar de Petřín-uitkijktoren te gaan. Wat normaal een heenweg van een halfuur moest zijn werd er eentje van bijna anderhalf uur omdat Sophie nog niet zo goed is in navigeren. Gelukkig waren we er nog geraakt voor het donker werd en konden we de stad zien vanuit het hoogste punt van Praag. Wist je dat de Petřín-uitkijktoren op dezelfde hoogte ligt als de Eiffeltoren. Dit komt omdat de Petřín-uitkijktoren op een berg staat.

Doordat we zo lang hadden gedaan over de heenweg hadden we niet meer veel tijd om nog iets anders te doen, maar toch deden we dat. We waren namelijk met de taxi naar de kermis van Praag gegaan, de kermis hier was veel groter dan in Geel met veel meer attracties maar wel veel minder volk. Er miste maar één ding, een goeie frietkraam. 😋

Toen we terug in ons appartement kwamen maakte iedereen zich meteen klaar om te gaan slapen aangezien het al 23u was en we maandag weer eens moesten gaan werken.

Met goed gevulde dagen, 3 keer Mcdonalds, 1 keer KFC en 1 keer kebab was het zeker een geslaagd weekend!

Only one more week(end)

The second workweek went by really fast, but that's mainly because I was allowed to work at home on Monday. Monday morning Filip sent me a message that he wouldn’t be in the office until the afternoon and Jakub needed to go to school so he said that I could work at home. After I was done with my work I decided to clean the apartment which was also a lot of work, the following days of the week I had to work in the office. Thursday at 13 o’clock Filip left because he’s going on vacation and he won't be back until the end of the internship.

Now it’s Friday already so let the weekend begin! 🤗

Cheers to the weekend!

The first week flew by, I almost can’t believe it’s Sunday already. We’ve never been bored so far and we already had a lot of great laughs this week. I’m very happy with our awesome group, we always help each other out.

My first workweek was not that hard, I always had to leave the apartment around 9 o’clock and the others around 8:30 o’clock so I always cleaned the table and emptied the dishwasher in the morning. I also usually came back home first so then I already could go buy some food and other stuff in the Albert Heijn and peel some potatoes.

During my workweek I mostly learned about the projects that they are working on and I especially had to search for potential investors for the projects. I also had time to learn my colleagues a little more and ask them a couple of questions about Prague and nice places to visit. Thursday in the afternoon I went to a salad bar with my internship mentor, I usually don’t like a salad but this one was quite tasty, we will probably be going back there somewhere next week. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures of my office so that will be for next week.

This weekend we did quite a lot, Friday we went to the Orange bar first which Ann Van den Meutter and Kathleen Genoe recommended us and it was well recommended because it was very cosy and the staff was also super friendly. After we had a couple of drinks we decided to go to a nightclub called Roxy, It was quite expensive but it was worth it. Around 1 o’clock the girls wanted to go home but Mats, Vince and I went back to the Orange Bar to drink one more cold beer. 

Saturday I woke up at 10 o’clock because we had to be at the Pilsner Urquell brewery at 13 o’clock for a tour that Sophie arranged for us, thanks Sophie :)  When we got back from Pilsen we ate something and after that we went to the Orange bar again, this says enough about how good that bar is. After that we went to another nightclub called James Dean, it was free entry and it was also very good.

Sunday we didn’t do a lot because we all needed some sleep. This evening I’m not going to stay up for too long otherwise I will be too tired tomorrow.

Eerste dag bij Eprovement

Vandaag ben ik voor de eerste keer naar mijn stageplaats geweest en heb ik mijn collega’s ontmoet. Ik ben samen met Vince, mevr. Van den Meutter en mevr. Genoe naar mijn stageplaats gegaan met de metro, nu weet ik ondertussen ook hoe ik met de metro ergens naartoe moet. Bij Eprovement werd ik ontvangen door Filip en Jakub, ik mocht me bij een bureautje installeren en daarna gaf Filip mij meer uitleg over het bedrijf en met welke projecten ze nu vooral bezig waren.

Het project dat me het meest aansprak heette, Trackio, want het ziet er zeer innovatief uit. Hieronder vind je een link van een filmpje dat het project beter uitlegt.

Second day in Prague

Dobrý den everyone

Today was even beter than yesterday which I didn’t think was possible. We slept until 10:45 AM which was also very nice because I needed it. At 11:15 AM Ann Van den Meutter and Kathleen Genoe came to our apartment and we visited three Synagoges and the famous Old Jewish Cemetery which is one of the largest of its kind in Europe and one of the most important Jewish historical monuments in Prague. After that we ate something and then we took the metro to the Prague Castle. I’ve never seen so many beautiful buildings in my life. We walked all the way back to the apartment while seeing a lot of monuments and exploring more of the magnificent city.

When we got back we made spaghetti and we watched a movie together. In about half an hour I will go to sleep because tomorrow Vince and I need to wake up at 7 AM to go to my internship.

First day in Prague

Dobrý den everyone

Yesterday morning we arrived at the airport of Prague. We directly went to our apartment, the apartment was bigger than I expected it to be. We all unpacked our stuff and then we went to a nice restaurant called Baterka Bílkova to eat something. After that we did a little bit of sightseeing, in the evening I ate a pizza and to finish the day we drank a nice cold beer.

Te voet of met de metro?

Hallo volgertjes

Ik heb net opgezocht hoe ik het beste naar mijn stageplaats ga vanaf ons appartement. Ik kan kiezen tussen twee manieren, te voet of met de metro. Als ik te voet ga is het 40 minuten wandelen wat best lang is maar ik kan het eerste kwartier nog wel met Sophie meewandelen aangezien zij in het nieuwe Hilton hotel stage gaat doen. Als ik met de metro wil gaan moet ik eerst nog vijf minuutjes naar het station wandelen om dan tien minuten in de metro te zitten en daarna nog vijf minuten naar mijn stageplaats wandelen. Dit lijkt me wel veel makkelijker en elke tien minuten is er een metro dus er zijn al geen lange wachttijden.

Now that I know more about my internship I can give you guys more details about the company I will be working at.

I will be working at eProvement from the 11th of February until the 1st of March.

eProvement is an international software development company focused on development of enterprise, web and mobile applications around the globe.

The company was founded in 2011 and right now the company consists out of 40 developers.

My expectations

In the coming days I will get to know more details about my Internship in Prague from Mr. Geerts, for now I am very curious about my internship place and the people I will be working with. My expectations are to learn more about the real life work and the culture in Prague, I would also like to improve my English and become more independent. I hope it will be a great three weeks and I’m still really looking forward to it.
