My father-in-law is a Russian history professor. His wife is Russian (and she’s a damned good cook) so they live a rather Russian life, even here in Richmond. They only have one car.

That meant that one weekend after she’d dropped him off to visit my kids, I got to give him a ride home. It’s not a big deal - they live in the Fan.

As we pulled up to the house, this Alfa Romeo Spider. I wasn’t clear on the difference between the badging as a kid. Some were Spiders. Others, like this one, were Graduates. It has to do with the Dustin Hoffman movie. Go figure.

Moreover, the four leaf clover I’d attributed to the owner’s lineage is actually part of the badging as well. It means this one was built after 1986, squarely in the third generation (Series 3 ran from 1983 to 1990).

I always wanted one of these. Then again, there isn’t much on this blog I can’t say that about…
