I loved his sober arc. Very lovely to see someone make it out. But sad that it completely changed who he was as a person in an almost detrimental way. He could still have been the “fun” sibling and sober. Really happy that he threw out the sake and glad he was upset when forced to relapse.

I have a friend thats turning into a “we used to hangout” friend. He’s pretty loud, smokes all the time, chases hobbies like their currency. Recently he has taken up what my other friends and I are calling “IRL ragebaiting”. I know theres another word for it but cant remember right now. We will be listening to music and chatting amiably about our favourite sounds or what not. Then he will feel the need to rag on his own music taste “aw I mean I don’t really like lots of production” “i like that they are bad singers” “i know theyre not popular”. And it’s like woah ok well non of us said that and we haven’t listened enough to think that but ok. Then he will without fail follow up by ragging on shit that we like. He’s obsessed with shitting on the Wu-Tang Clang which one of our friends is obsessed with. Like obnoxiously talking about how he doesnt get it and nobody should listen to it and that they just plain suck. We exchange awkward glances and try and move on the conversation. But recently he’s started ragging on bands I like (My Chemical Romance to be specific) and how he never liked thier music and he “knows” theyre good. “Like I know that they are good and all but I just hate them”. And I don’t understand where the disconnect is?? Its ok to have an adverse opinion to something but needlessly criticising something that one of your friends is passionate about is so obtuse? He’ll bring it up with a big smile on his face and glance around to seeing anybody else is laughing. When we don’t he just doubles down. We’ve started whispering amongst ourselves “hey maybe dont invite him this time” “we’ll catch up with him later” “is he gonna be there?”
