Le nom Arctique vient du grec ancien ἄρκτος (árktos) qui signifie ours, en référence aux noms des constellations de la Grande Ourse et de la petite Ourse, situées près du pôle nord Céleste. On ne trouve les ours polaires que sur la « Terre des Ours » (Arctique) et pas en Antarctique.

The Arctic name comes from old Greek (Árktos) which means bear, in reference to the names of the constellations of the Great Bear and the Little Bear, situated near the celestial North Pole. We find the polar bears only on the “ Earth of the Bears ” (Arctic) and not in Antarctica.
