new zealand: our route on the south island • travelogues and photos from long distance and world trips
The weather just didn't feel like it yet. Then we went to the bus, which was already at the bus stop. Luckily it was still waiting for us and we could start right away. Once again change buses and a little later we stood in front of our cottage for the next three days. Read more about campervan hire New Zealand here. on the bus, it takes a while as the group goes from one terminal to the next and then gathers. Afterwards they pass the passport control and after everyone is together they go to the air-conditioned bus. At Bushy Beach you could see sea lions and in the evening you can watch the yellow-eyed penguins living there. On the way to Auckland is the Waipoura Forest. Here you can admire New Zealand's largest Kauri tree. In Auckland we stayed for another night.
Milford Sound
We would only recommend Napier if you really have some time left. In general, we would rather focus on the South Island than the North Island. We would make it depend on airfares or the season and therefore the climate (in the south it tends to be much colder). There is no real right or wrong. There are beautiful lakes, glaciers, great beaches and a diverse wildlife. We hope it was not our last trip to New Zealand. After this impressive tour we drove past Lake Pukaki to Lake Tekapo, where we stayed overnight to take a scenic flight over the glacier world the next morning. We flew over glacial lakes, Mount Cook, Mount Tasman and the Franz Josef Glacier. This flight was the absolute highlight of our trip. Are you looking for the most beautiful campsites on the west coast of the USA?

Just before Nugget Point, some yellow-eyed penguins have their nests. From a safe distance we watch this endangered species walking back and forth between sea and bush. The yellow-eyed penguin is one of the rarer penguin species and lives mainly in southern New Zealand. Even the slightest disturbance of its familiar environment would lead to a further decimation of the population.

Cheap motorhomes and campers in New Zealand, also as a fly-drive offer
Campsites in New Zealand
Definitely and one of the dreams you can fulfill on a campervan trip in New Zealand. Allow enough time for all routes because the roads are narrower, steeper and more curvy than you are used to at home and the distances are always longer than appear on the cards. To be able to drive a vehicle in New Zealand, you need an internationally valid driver's license, you must be at least 21 years old (at STA Travel there are also providers where the minimum age is 18) and have a national driver's license from your home country that is older than a year. Drivers under the age of 25 usually pay more at the rental company because the insurance is more expensive. Our trip is now a few years ago. It would be really wonderful if the situation is different now.

• "Don't plan too much! Is my most common tip for New Zealand travelers. To really see something of the country and enjoy its beauty, cheap New Zealand motorhome you should take your time. Those who have less than three weeks of vacation are better restricted to one of the islands. Lots of garbage used. So there was never a problem that garbage has accumulated, it is just not as comfortable in New Zealand as in other countries where there are trash cans on every corner.
Current New Zealand Specials
This is the case, for example, with the Elephant Rocks in the hinterland of Oamaru; if you want to stay there for a while, you have to call the owners (the number is on a sign on the fence) and they will open the gate to their grounds.
It may also be partly from the region depend.
Always have both your German and your international driver's license with you.
Hawke's Bay and the Central Volcanic Plateau can be reached from the capital just as easily , like from Auckland.
Our partner travel agency will then make you an appropriate offer.
They are mostly picturesque in nature, be it in the forest, on lakes or on the beach. There are usually really very simple toilets here, if they even exist. Here you will find brochures, about DOC campsites in individual regions and their equipment. By the way, driving in a New Zealand 4-person motorhome that is designed for 6 people is much more relaxed because there is simply more storage space. If you have 4 or more weeks, the translation to the other island is also worthwhile. The ferries are also designed for campers - don't worry! Is size important to you? You can limit the results by entering the number of beds. Our bigger experience there was the helicopter flight to Tasman with touchdown on the glacier - overwhelming! Now you get goosebumps. Renting a motorhome or camper through Motorhome Republic is a breeze. The website lists all offers from many international and local providers.

If you are traveling through New Zealand in a motorhome, do not stay in the small accommodations where you will be warmly cared for by the hospitable kiwis. In addition, without the big vehicle, you won't immediately look like a tourist and get to know the locals even more easily. New Zealand is divided into a north and a south island, which can also be wonderfully visited separately. The only small challenge is driving on the left. I say extra “small” challenge, because before our trip I was told a lot that you quickly get used to driving on the other side of the road. And what can I say ?!

All in all, the New Zealand campervan hire New Zealand from NZM Rentals costs for my husband Florian and me totaled around 3,000 euros. That makes about € 1,500 per person over four weeks, which roughly corresponds to a daily budget of € 50 per nose. With a 3 hour drive from Wellington on the North Island to Picton on the South Island or vice versa, the ferries also cross the breathtaking Marlborough Sounds. We highly recommend booking the ferry crossing in advance, especially in the main travel months (November to March). Camper rentals in New Zealand are increasing rapidly because both tourists and locals go on vacation. Standard rental prices only include basic insurance with usually A $ 5,000 deductible (SB). One-way fees, local taxes, camping table / chairs have to be paid extra, as well as with some providers additional drivers or parts of the vehicle equipment. To reduce the very high self-service, additional insurance is offered on site. The latest Spaceship - with more comfort and lots of storage space. Equipped with a practical camping kitchen and an extra large double bed. So a try is worth it;) So let me say, three weeks are of course really little for the flight time, but it's worth it. If you only concentrate on one island, three weeks are quite feasible. In time you can do a lot. I would say that it is worth considering.

REISS AUS Rent a luxury camper
Hopefully your photos can convey not only the beauty of the landscape, but also your enthusiasm for this small country. Hard to miss! Striking green and purple, this is how Jucy Campers camper vans look. Due to their size, they are easy to use, but do not have their own shower and toilet.
(New Zealand North Island only)
I agree that my details from the contact form will be collected and processed to answer my request. I have read and understood the information on handling user data in the data protection declaration. In any case, we recommend visiting the Bay of Islands (around 3-4 hours drive north) and the Coromandel Peninsula (around 3-4 hours drive southeast) if you are looking for breathtaking beaches and unique backdrops. New Zealand is divided into a north and a south island, which can also be wonderfully visited separately.

Experience the vast nature and spend the night spontaneously, where you like it, because you have your "own bed" with you. ¹ The correct number and correct installation of seats for babies and children is of course essential for a family camper trip. Therefore, pay more attention to wildlife crossing the road. Your class B driver's license (purchased from January 1st, 1999) is also permitted to drive a motorhome with a total weight of over 3.5 tons in New Zealand. In summer, the city tends to be dry and temperatures between 25 and 35 degrees Celsius. With enough time, I would personally prefer to take all three with me. Then you definitely need a five-seater, i.e. a large motorhome. Babies and children of all ages can ride there, I know nothing about restrictions. You just need seats Campervan camping park with a three-point belt and suitable child seats (which you best bring with you from home, then you can also use them on the long flight to sleep). I recently read an article about the areas where Lord of the Rings was filmed.
Ships run daily between Bluff and Stewart island.
Here you will find wonderful hot spots Springs, beautiful hiking trails and opportunities for adventurous activities such as bungy jumping and jet boating.
Mount Hutt, Porter's Pass and Mount Cheeseman are all within an hour or two from the city.
For those who don't feel like comparing manually, I recommend our camper price comparison at CamperDays.de. Our portal is still quite young, but we have more and more customers who book their motorhomes with us for travel destinations around the world. We also have a blog where you can find a lot of information about insurance, individual rental companies and motorhome holidays in general in New Zealand. I can only advise against your secret tip turning circles. Our 2 Berth Campervan had its best times long behind. The airline is known for its good service. Campervan and Motorhome Rentals New Zealand Auckland Christchurch

Motorhomes in other cities
We had a wonderful time, were able to stand in many lonely places (caution, you can't just stand with your camper everywhere!) And learned to love New Zealand even more. We chose Christchurch as the start and end of our camper trip through New Zealand. Because on the one hand the campers are hotly coveted and booked up quickly, on the other hand the camper prices in New Zealand are cheaper the earlier you book. Incidentally, we had the experience with our first camper rental in New Zealand and therefore advise you to book early. Christchurch enjoys temperatures all year round that promise a great vacation in the motorhome. Christchurch is known as the so-called garden city and is currently undergoing a huge reconstruction project due to the devastating earthquakes in 2010 and 2011. Unfortunately, many New Zealand enthusiasts always have the experience of being left empty-handed for short-term inquiries for a New Zealand motorhome. Campers in New Zealand are booked well in advance and neither a motorhome nor a campervan are available at short notice in the summer months. For more information, see my article on renting a camper in New Zealand. Christchurch is located approximately in the middle of the east coast on the South Island, which makes the place an ideal base for a holiday in a motorhome.
Location / Time change
However, not all camper rental companies in New Zealand offer that you can rent the camper directly from the age of 18.

Renting a camper in Christchurch is a great way to experience every adventure and opportunity that your vacation has to offer.
Here we spent the first night in the hotel before we picked up our camper the next day. It was just the most relaxed way for us to start the day well. Here you will find a small overview of the most beautiful routes and itineraries with the camper in New Zealand. You can combine them with each other so that you can knit a wonderful longer tour out of them. Of course you can also read my testimonials about my own motorhome tours in New Zealand. Our unsurpassable service, a free travel folder and our nationwide customer service program - all of this assures you of a completely carefree travel. Not far from Fiordland is Queenstown, New Zealand's adventure capital. Processing time is between a few minutes and a maximum of 24 hours. Availability is limited. What campsites are there in Australia and New Zealand? You can stay in one place for 3 days without leaving garbage or sewage (black and gray). In short, campers must have a chemical toilet and a waste water tank on board. So that you also know what you should take with you when you travel with your camper in New Zealand, we have created a packing list for you. Here, of course, we learned from our own experience and brought together all the important things for you. Which season you want to camp in New Zealand depends on your packing.

New Zealand Camping Advice That Will Keep Everyone Happy
Camping Advice That Will Keep Everyone Happy The draw that nature has for many folks is undeniable. The best way to maximize any camping excursion is to arm yourself with knowledge of the most useful tips and tricks. The tips that you will find in the next few paragraphs will help make your next camping outing the best one ever. You don't have to be a boy scout to be prepared, if you plan to go camping in New Zealand. One of the first rules is to be sure to tell somebody where you will be. If there isn't an exact location to give, then give a general idea of major roads nearby or even GPS coordinates if you know them and give a timeframe of when you plan to return. If you are going backcountry camping, you should probably carry a snake bite kit in your gear. The best snake bite kits are the ones that use suction. Some kits have scalpels and blood flow constrictors in them. Scalpels can actually cut the poison into the blood stream faster, and constrictors can be deadly if not used properly. Keep the needs of your family in mind before selecting a destination. For example, if you have a baby or toddler, it may be best to stick close to home in case things don't go as planned. If you have teenagers, however, you may enjoy traveling to a different state. Choose what is best for you! Use separate coolers for perishables, ice and drinks. While it does not matter if the perishables and drinks go into the same one, make sure to pack your ice separately. This will keep the temperature down so that you will have ice for much longer than you would have otherwise. Make sure you have a first aid kit with you. As an alternative, you could pack some supplies in a plastic bag. While hopefully your trip will be free of injuries, you never know. It is best to be prepared so that you can handle anything that happens in the best way possible. Make sure you are aware of what hospitals are close to your campsite and how to get to them. While you don't want to think about anything bad happening on your trip, it is a possibility. Certain injuries will necessitate a visit to the doctor, so it is best to know where to go before something happens, and you are in panic mode. A 'jungle breakfast' can be a great activity for the kids. Pack breakfasts of cereal, juice and fruit in bags and hide them somewhere on the campsite. Let the kids go out hunt for their breakfast. It's a fun way to make camping a little more exciting for the children. To avoid blistered and chapped feet on your New Zealand camping trip, bring a bar of soap along! Prior to any lengthy walk, rub the soap into the heals of your socks and this will minimize friction, thus reducing soreness. Keep the soap in your pocket for a quick dose when your feet start feeling beat-up or blistered. When you go camping in New Zealand, be sure to have a few activities in mind other than just... "camping". The camping experience is enriched by hiking, swimming, Maui campervans exploring and things like that. Be sure to engage in some of these other activities so that you have the fullest camping experience you've ever had. Pack the duct tape. Duct tape is good for so many things. This can help to seal and protect your tent and even protect your body. Even if you're not going a long distance away on your New Zealand camping trip, or even if you're going into familiar territory, always stay in touch with friends, family or neighbors. Tell someone where your trip will be, and how long you'll be gone. And if you can, check in regularly using a mobile phone. In this modern age, there is no excuse for being in the woods without some form of communication ability. Of course, no one likes to receive phone calls when they are relaxing, so leave your phone off but fully charged, just in case there is an emergency, and you need to contact someone. If you're having trouble keeping warm at night, wear a hat. It can get cold out in nature. As cold as it gets, however, it can be quite stifling to keep your head tucked inside your sleeping bag at all times. Pack a warm woolen hat to wear while you sleep. For people who know how to camp properly, camping can be one of the best activities that they can enjoy. To create a proper foundation in order to plan great New Zealand camping trips, you must do research. Keep the guidance from the above article close at hand, and you will be ready to pitch your tent in no time.
