fire emblem fates is a fucking trash fire for so many reasons including

a) shitty story

b) shitty characters

c) actually being a really promising concept that was so poorly executed

d) literally no fucking lore

this literally sucks because fire emblem has always been story-heavy and character driven. like a good example of this would be gaiden/echoes. alm and celica, the lords of the game, make their decisions that drive the plot. alm decides to join the deliverance and liberate zofia, celica decides to seek out mila, one of the two dragon gods of valentia, because she feared something happened to her. these eventually lead them to duma tower, where they must together defeat the mad god duma. meanwhile corrin is just kind of. pushed around.

ANOTHER THING: there is no growth in the story, nobody ever changes. corrin stays the same sheltered, naive person, despite there being LITERALLY THREE ROUTES WHERE THEY COULD HAVE HAD ANY SORT OF GROWTH. the only reason corrin ever drives the plot is because everyone hangs onto their every word. corrin faces no adversary than the villains and the supports where someone is rude to them, it clearly shows a preference for corrin’s side of the story. azura, who’s considered the deuteragonist, is nothing but a mysterious waif who can’t tell you anything because an idiotic plot device which only exists to have you but revelations. in all honesty the only thing that’s good about this game is the gameplay itself and the supports. the story isn’t compelling in the slightest. characters beside like, xander, are less characters and more like a set of quirks with a design ranging from “okay” to “literal dumpster fire”
