If they wanted to do color blind casting they should have done that when the show opened. Instead they created a show where 3/4 of the actors were of Asian descent, had literally all the understudies by Asian, and then the minute one of the actors leave they decide to rip that representation away from the people who needed it. I’m not Asian myself but I have seen the way they have reacted to this casting announcement. I’ve seen them talk about how much the show meant to them, how much it meant to have a show with a show focused on Asian characters that isn’t specifically about their race. It’s Honestly so gross that they thought this would be ok. This was one of the first things I saw when I woke up and I legitimately thought I was having a weird dream because I thought that there was no way they’d do that. I really wanted to see the tour when it came near me eventually but now I think it will fully depend on what cast they have, I don’t want to see a cast that takes away roles from actual Asian actors who should have the role.
Whoever thought casting Andrew Barth Feldman as Oliver and maybe happy ending, I just want to talk. And also maybe punch you in the face because WHAT

“they’re robots” “it’s only for 9 weeks” that’s not the point and you know it. it’s setting a standard that it’s ok to cast white actors in asian roles. it’s not like this is two or three replacements down the line, this is the very first replacement. there were wonderful understudies right there, and I’m sure they could have found an asian actor beyond that anyway. they had time to make this decision. there are certain lines (like “that guy looks like james! and THAT guy looks like james!”) that will be uncomfortable now. and even disregarding the content of the show entirely, there is going to be an asian kid in the audience who will look up and not have the chance to see himself anymore, there are going to be asian actors seeing this announcement and giving up because an asian actor couldn’t even get cast in an asian musical. we’re going backwards.
there are plenty of musicals for white men to be cast in. there was only one on broadway right now that praised itself for its asian representation, and now that is being taken away. I love mhe and want it to succeed, but this was incredibly disappointing and tone deaf.

My mom’s first ever exposure to Jenny Nicholson was her being in the room when I was watching her spider reviews video and now she exclusively calls her the “spider review lady” despite having been in the room while I’ve watched multiple of her other videos at this point. Even though it’s not her most well known video, I like the think Jenny would approve of this description of her.

Yes! It’s absolutely insane that they thought this was an ok thing to do. Especially in 2025. I keep hearing people say “oh they’re robots it doesn’t matter,” but this was never a role that was supposed to be cast racially blind. It’s a musical that takes place in Korea, everyone except Gil Brently is played by someone who is Asian, and literally all the understudies are also Asian. They made us clear from the beginning that this was supposed to be a musical that put Asian people at the center and elevate new Asian talent and then they just decided to completely abandon that for a cheap marketing stunt that probably going to have really bad ripple effects throughout the industry. This is one of my favorite musicals and I’m so incredibly disappointed in the casting team for this decision.

Goddd yess they actually make me sick and devastate me. I feel like at the end of the day what truly caused Ted and Jenny to not be able to be together (besides Ted time traveling from the future and literally destroying their last chance to be together but we’re not talking about that right now) was their own mutual insecurity. In Jenny’s letter she says she “knows” Ted does not love her back. I find it hard to believe that Ted was that good at concealing his feelings that she would know that. They both felt like they were undeserving of the other person’s romantic love and therefore it must be impossible that the other would feel the same way. Jenny feels like she has to move on and settle for someone who she knows for a fact loves her even if she doesn’t love him because it’s easier than being around the person she loves who she doesn’t know loves her back. That dynamic of two people both wishing they were worthy enough to be loved by eachother always just gets to me and Jenny and Ted are a really good encapsulation of that.
I have been thinking about Ted, Jenny, and Andy so much lately.
Jenny starts dating this guy, likely as a way to get over being in love with her best friend, and I’m just thinking man, what was the conversation with Teddy like when she told him she’s seeing someone? Because Ted’s her best friend- she kinda HAS TO tell him at one point or another. I can imagine how uncomfortable she was to bring it up, how much she’d dread Ted not liking him or maybe being TOO EXCITED that she’s finally dating, or even feeling total indifference. She tells herself Ted isn’t going to go “what? You’re seeing someone? But I’m finally ready to tell you I’m in love with you” AND YET if Ted asked her to break up with Andrew for him she knows in her heart of hearts she’d fucking do it and she’d feel just a little bit awful because Andy is still such a sweet guy and just so happened to have worked up the nerve to talk to her first. Still, though, the smile on Ted’s face and his well-wishes for the relationship should make her happy, but they don’t. The feeling that her crush on him will never be anything more is completely disheartening, and he can’t even tell how much she’s crying out for him to be selfish and tell her that she’s his.
That conversation for Ted would be just as bad. His best friend approaches him and she is VISIBLY NERVOUS. “There’s something I have to tell you” immediately sets off alarm bells in his mind. Is this going to be a confession? After years of pining, is Jenny finally going to tell him what he always wanted to hear? Or is it going to be an acknowledgement, a rejection? Something amounting to ‘I know how you feel about me and I can’t stand the disgust I feel from it any longer’ would decimate him. He tries to let hope prevail and tell himself it could very well be the former idea. Instead, she says she’s dating someone, and his world crumbles. It’s not a rejection, but it sure feels like one. Jenny feeling something for anyone else doesn’t bode well for his chances with her, does it? He tries to put on a brave face and be supportive, but all he wants to do is beg for a chance with her. He’d do anything for her to see him the way she must see this Andy guy. If only he had a way to know for sure he wouldn’t destroy their friendship if he confessed, a way to be certain she felt the same, then he’d tell her how he felt in an instant. He could be better for her than Andrew ever could- nobody knew Jenny as well as Teddy did, Andrew could never compare to him as long as Jenny was willing to just give him a chance.
“That’s so cool, Jenny. I’m very happy for you.”
“Thanks, Andy seems real swell so far…”
“What’s he like?”
Ted doesn’t want to know even a little bit, but he asks anyways, because that’s what best friends are supposed to do. Maybe if he’s deluded enough he can find some similarities in himself and this guy, or at least enough to consider he could possibly be Jenny’s type. The last thing Jenny wants to do is try to wax poetic about her new boyfriend to the guy she’s in love with, but Teddy asked, so she talks about Andrew anyways. She doesn’t know too much about him so far, but just enough to know she wishes Teddy would’ve ask her out instead of him.
Andrew obviously becomes a very permanent fixture in Jenny’s life if they get to the point of getting engaged. He’s still around, and probably has never even noticed the longing looks his girlfriend and her best friend throw to each other from across the room, or the touches that last too long for even lifelong platonic friends. They’re so incredibly in love with each other and are repressing it so horribly- Andy is a third wheel to his own relationship. He probably loved Jenny too, and his feelings for her had blinded him to how deeply in love she was with her best friend.
Ted and Jenny are still desperate for their adoration to be reciprocated, and Andrew is always the good-natured barrier in the way of their could-be romance- not that he ever realized. Even if Ted and Jenny saw him that way- as an obstacle between them- and she left him, the two would just be right back at square one. Their biggest obstacles are their own fears, but isn’t that true of anyone? Ted blames the years he wasted not telling Jenny the truth on Andy, just cause he can, just cause he hates being seen as weak. Ted could never let it be his own fault, so he had to blame Andrew. He won’t admit that he was just a little too late to working up the nerve to confess, so obviously Andrew moved too fast and pushed Jenny into being with him, and more importantly, he can’t admit that he was terrified of being rejected- he can’t cope with knowing that insecurity is inside of himself- so it’s not there, and the other guy couldn’t take no as an answer from Jenny.
Andrew Kilgore was just a pushy asshole. That’s the lesson Ted chooses he learned, even though when we meet 2004 Andrew in Time Bastard, he seems the farthest thing from it. Andrew has to be the pushy asshole that gets the girl because if not, Ted can only see himself as the guy who couldn’t even get a girl that was in love with him to date him. He can’t cope with how massively he fucked up, so he has completely changed himself into someone unrecognizable and even then blamed someone else entirely so he can detach himself from that insecurity and that fear of rejection as much as humanly possible.
ohhhhhhh jennybear and andrew kilgore my heart is yoursssss

I feel like nobody talks about how Holloway helped Ethan at some point, and that this happened in every timeline. Ethan gives Hannah his magic hat in "Black Friday" which is heavily implied to be from Holloway. Since Wiley is around, we know that this is a timeline where Holloway must have lost her battle with Wiley, which was right after the split, so she must have given Ethan the hat before then. That would have made him 6 years old or younger when Holloway helped him, so I'm dying to know what happened? For a character who seemingly has no connection to magic and grew up in a loving home to need Holloway's help at such a young age is fascinating to me.
