My friend and I have discussed, and we believe it is more plausible that Gossip Girl was actually a vampire from the 1800′s who was pulling all the strings in the social lives of these teenagers. You see, he was a gossip writer in his day. So it came naturally. 

And we have voted that this plotline is more plausible than the canon one.

Also, Dan was compelled to think he really was Gossip Girl.

Have you ever considered how fucking astonishing babies crying is?

The young of other animals don’t make noise, or if they do, barely any at all. Baby birds only start chirping when their parents come back with the food, kittens meow to their mothers because cat communication is extremely subtle and drawing your caretaker’s attention may require a sound when you have eight siblings. At this point, they can already see and walk.

 But human babies? Crying is essentially the first willful action that they learn. Months before being able to move on your own, or even hold your own fucking head up, or being able to choose when and where you defecate. Before anything else, a skill more valuable than anything else, is a distress call.

 A distress call specifically intended to be impossible to ignore.

 Before object permanence or theory of mind, without even an understanding of what help they need, who could provide it, and whether they choose to do so, a human being is capable of expressing that there is something wrong in the state they are in, that they are powerless to correct on their own.

 This is what was evolutionarily selected above silent babies that did not attract predators. This is what was selected instead of young who could instantly walk. This is what was selected as the ideal offspring for the human race. Not one that runs. Not one that hides. Not one that can fend for itself. A creature that can communicate, if only the simplest, most inherent message: I need help.

Alright. I’m glad you know about it. Things can change of the the years. But for now, I’m afraid I don’t know why you joined the Brotherhood. The idea of having someone in my head isn’t one that I relish. Even though it probably is our best chance at getting back. Just keep your ears open, I guess. I’ll let you know if I hear anything. 

I’ve read about that big fight, and am aware of the losses as well but I’m not sure that it was would drive me to join the Brotherhood.  I wasn’t that close or influenced by anyone that was there.  But I guess I could have been in the years I’m missing.  I think the only way for us to return would be for someone to get inside our heads, it’s not really a good conversation starter but I’ll keep trying to find things out as much as I can.

Ahh, makes sense, I’ve apparently gotten better at summoning ghosts and keeping them around. Plus, the whole intangible thing comes in handy when going to check on Erin. Yeah, it would be nice to go visit. I’m afraid with Erin, visiting isn’t exactly an option at the moment. Oh, trust me, you’re not. I had a good laugh about it. Well, it does take some getting used to. At least you know you aren’t completely awful at it? Peter’s amazing. He just graduated from Oxford in Mathematics and Computer Science and has a boyfriend. Yeah, I’m still not looking forward to the separation anxiety. Apparently Barnaby cried his first day back. 

Hah, well as far as I know, no. My abilities are the same as they were a decade ago, only it seems I can maintain my clones for a longer amount of time than I used to. It would be nice to pay a visit–see those old professors, and what their school is like. I’m glad to know I wasn’t the only one who had that initial thought regarding your new surname. So you have that parental instinct? That’s wonderful–for you and for your daughter. I’m not sure I’ve settled into parenthood yet, but judging by how the kids are around me, I guess I do take to being a father at some point. Oh that’s right, your brother. How is he now? I can imagine that going back will be tough but at least you know she’ll be in good hands until you can return to her, right?

Alice laughed at the question. Oh boy, she was not going to touch that one with a ten and a half foot long pole. “Oh, that’s a long story. Here, that’s Erin with her daddy. His name is Barnaby.” She didn’t mind at all when the girl clambered on over to look at the photo. Alice sighed at Hayleigh’s reaction to her news about the whole missing ten years thing. “Yeah, sorry. If it helps, it’s frustrating for us too.” She looked at Cessily and nodded. “A bit. But, I mean, it’s kind of amazing at the same time.” 

“It was inside you?”  Hayleigh’s eyes were wide and filled with wonder, “but how’d it get there?”  The silver girl behind her attempted to mask her snort with a cough but failed but the young redhead didn’t notice, or ignored it.  Hayleigh nodded at the offer of seeing a picture and without being invited clambered onto the chair next to Alice, leaning over to get a good look.  It was Hayleigh that reacted first to Alice mentioning the ten year memory gap, the young redhead rolled her eyes and said “urgh, not you too,” in such a perfectly Cessily way it was frightening.

“Maybe Alice doesn’t want you climbing all over… ok nevermind,”  Cessily gave up her reprimand when she realised it was falling on deaf ears, as usual.  It was Cessily’s turn to ignore Hayleigh’s comment about finding someone else with memory problems and she addressed Alice directly.  “Yeah, exactly that, went to sleep in 2016 and woke up here, with her,” she gestured towards the young girl whom she was growing increasingly sure was her daughter.  “It’s terrifying isn’t it?”

Well, how do I put this? There apparently was a big battle about five years ago between the Friends of Humanity, the X-Men, and the Brotherhood. We lost a lot of good people. To be frank, I don’t know. I think for the time being, get used to being here, but try and keep looking for a way back. 

You have an idea?  What is it because I don’t have a clue what it could be, I’m guessing it was something to do with people I care about but I can’t seem to find anything.  I’m not sure what to do, should we do our best to get used to being here, or be trying to get back to the time we remember?

Did you develop telepathy as a secondary mutation, by any chance? Because you just took the words right out of my mouth. I’m glad they have a sister school on the West Coast. I always felt for the kids who were from there. Having to come across the country to go to school someplace where they’d be safe and accepted. Now, they get to at least be a bit closer to home. Oh, don’t apologize. It was the first thing I thought of as well. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that Barnaby and I threw the possibility of naming Erin Juliet around. Not only am I enjoying being a mother, I might even dare say that I’m not half bad at it. Oh, I realized that a long time ago when Peter was born. Well, we do have staff who seem more than happy to help with her. Honestly, I’m not looking forward to leaving her when I go back to work. 

That makes two of us. Well…I guess I wasn’t completely opposed to the idea but I didn’t think it would ever actually happen. That’s true. I don’t think anyone who ever went to Xavier’s at any point could honestly say they didn’t feel like he had some sort of impact on them. But yes, those four decided to start a school on the west coast. From what Alexis told me, theirs is still an all-mutant school, but they’re essentially modeling it after Xavier’s, like a sister-school. Haha as in Shakespeare? Sorry, that’s the first thing that came to mind. It sounds like you’re really enjoying being a mother though. That’s really great. Young children can be a little irresistible at times though. I was kind of surprised to realize that when meeting my niece in her infant years. Of course it was also nice to be able to send her home with her parents at the end of the day, haha.

“It’s alright. This isn’t the first time I’ve seen art projects laying around of a budding artist’s.” The last time had been back in college. Before that, it’d been when Peter was little. It was so hard to adjust to the fact that her brother was now a full fledged adult. But, she carefully moved something off a chair so she could sit down. 

Alice just nodded in understanding about Wren having people at the brownstone. The whole registration thing had thrown her a bit off. But, she knew better than to bring police here. “Not to worry, I won’t be bringing the police by. That would just complicate things.” 

As she listened to Wren’s thoughts on the matter, she titled her head a tad to the left. “I can see the school possibly killing them if they thought they were a serious threat. While I’d like to think they’d try to simply neutralize them first, things have changed quite a bit.” She tried to recall if she’d ever heard of any sort of psychic bomb. “That isn’t out of the question. Whatever did happen, there’s obviously a cover up. And there are two main reasons for a cover up, to protect others, or to protect yourself. Either way, I’ll help you find out which it is. I may not be an expert on pisonics, but on handling public perception? That’s my job.”

“Sorry ‘bout Ty’s art projects, keep telling her he ought to try the frigging library or something, but I can’t really blame them not wanting to go out in public,” she sighed, nudging a Popsicle stick house out of the way with one foot before she put her feet up on the coffee table.

Realizing that she probably needed context in the face of amnesia, she continued. “I’ve got some people in, yeah? Cos registration doesn’t make it easier to get by, whatever they try to say in the ads about it being fine it isn’t. You’re just not allowed to bring a trail of coppers back here if you’re staying in. If I drop people right on the front steps it’ll get noticed.”

“I considered all of that too. I have had years in between, after all,” Wren said. “See, couple different thoughts got lodged in my brain, yeah? One, what if something happened and the school killed ‘em to stop them from being dangerous? Like a psychic bomb or whatever. The school wouldn’t want people seeing that and they know I wouldn’t let that bloody rest. I have no idea if that’s even a thing but it’s not the worst explanation for all their hush-hush attitude about it.”

As she looked from the girl to Cessily and back, Alice couldn’t help but note the similarities. She smiled at the younger redhead as she pointed to her stomach. Obviously, she knew this girl and had seen her while pregnant. “Well, the baby that was growing inside me is now out. I can show you pictures of her, if you’d like.” Alice noted that Cessily was still obviously figuring things out as well. “Ahh, well, you’re not alone there. Let me guess, the past ten years have just gone poof?” She gave the kid a knowing grin. If she wasn’t Cessily’s daughter, Alice would be floored. “Well, she certainly sounds a lot like someone we know.” She gave the girl a wink. Yup, definitely Cessily’s daughter. 

Hayleigh made a ‘hmph’ noise that reminded Cessily far too much of herself for her liking.  The young girl then pointed at Alice, gesturing towards her stomach.  “Alice! You’re not big no more.  What happened?”  She looked hurt when Alice had to ask Cessily who she was.

Cessily’s brow arched and she looked inquisitively towards Alice.  “Big?”  She really hoped there was a good explanation for the comment and that the young girl with her wasn’t just being incredibly rude.   “I’m good, just trying to figure a few things out while fighting some major amnesia,” she figured that was a good was to find out if Alice was also affected.  “How about you?”  She smiled at the young girl next to her and wished she had a better answer.  “This is the munchkin.  That’s all she’s told me so that’s all I know for now.”
