I am probably going to be okay. I was okay the last time this asshole was in office thanks to my luck and privilege and the fact that I live in an extremely liberal part of the country. August 17th is the 10 year anniversary of my first ever Rivamika fic, To You, Twenty Years From Now. I feel like I should do *something* to commemorate it but also I am very busy and burnt out from my job so I am out of ideas. Open to suggestions though!

levi & mikasa’s platonic relationship development is HEAVILY underrated in the fandom and for what

the fact that people barely realize it has always been odd to me because it’s pretty clear how differently levi treats mikasa ,, he’s always treated her with a softer approach and i’ve always been under the impression that he’s acknowledged a parallel between them during the female titan attack so he understands; especially during the ackerbowl scene. i genuinely was not surprised that levi didn’t get mad because he probably sees the younger version of himself in her actions.

mikasa’s development towards levi is subtle. she doesn’t wear her emotions on her sleeves, and it’s not a thing that has started immediately like levi’s mini-analysis of her during the female titan attack, but she trusts levi. she trusts his ability. mikasa’s view on levi has changed and her original resentment has morphed into respect.

this is a big thing because the ema trio represent different things, and mikasa represents pride. she’s prideful in her strength. she’s the muscle of the group and she understands how worthy she is.

not only that, but she’s protective when it comes to her loved ones and this is shown in multiple occasions. ironically, one of the most noted scenes of her protectiveness is when levi beats up eren during the trial and she surges over with armin having to hold her down.

this is why her showing trust in other people is a big deal in her development ,, she’s protective, but instead of relying on her strength only, she learns to trust others on her own will, like eren, armin, hanji, and even levi.

trust & family are two big themes in aot — levi & mikasa’s platonic relationship shows both of these aspects as it develops. mikasa trusts levi, and levi becomes aware of their shared bloodline in s3, creating even more probability that levi continues to look over mikasa from a distance.
