I haven’t posted here in a hot minute. A few updates:

First off, I’m removing the Twitter account for this project, as the website is rapidly becoming unsafe for humans to use.

Second... obviously my plans to work on the comic more this year have fallen through. I thought that moving to freelance work would give me more free time to work on my comic, but instead it essentially robbed me of any kind of schedule, which it turns out was not very good for my ADHD brain!

Moving forward I’m trying to get, at the very least, a part-time job, which will give me regular income and a regular schedule and hopefully get my brain working again. Perhaps with a regular schedule I’ll be able to work consistently on my own projects once again. I’ll still do some commission work, but it won’t be my only source of income.

That said, I hope to start doing more art streams featuring work on my comic soon. ...I also hope I can follow through with that hope. I truly want this comic to exist.

Was originally going to put this in the last post, but I figure this should have its own post.

You’ll notice I’ve put image descriptions in that last post! I’ve always wanted this comic to be more inclusive, so I will be trying to make image descriptions for the pages. I didn’t describe Bartholomew and Blazingcorals’ appearances however because I plan to make a separate page on both this blog and the main comic blog with character descriptions, so I don’t have to describe them every single time. (I don’t figure any potential readers with visual impairments would appreciate having the characters re-described in every single image description, either.)

Current plans are to write up character descriptions to put in their own page--primarily for those with visual impairments, though I figure it would be a good quick reference for any other readers as well. (The characters will also have full articles on the World Anvil page, but a character page on the blogs would be spoiler-free for any new readers.)

I’d also like to get back to work on Issue Zero itself, which I’ll try to work on around my usual commissions.

It’s been a while but I’m trying to get myself back into this project! A friend of mine urged me to get back to work on Issue Zero, so that’s what I’m going to try to do, and I figured I’d start by getting myself to draw Bartholomew and baby!Blazingcoral again. I looked up some “draw your OCs” pictures and ran across this one [ID: photo of two cats. One stands on two legs with its front paws on a garbage can, which it is looking down into. The other cat sits within the garbage can, glaring up at the first cat, its mouth open and teeth showing. /end ID] and decided to go with that. I think it fits them.

OH BOY I haven’t updated things from this side in a while have I? I’m better at updating the Twitter (which is “alitdcomic” btw!).

So here’s the current status on some things:

Script has been combed over and I compiled and organized a list of edits and problems I need to work over. Next step is to start work on editing the script and figuring out solutions to the problems I listed.

As far as Issue Zero goes... I have not touched it in some time, but I’m hoping to change that soon, perhaps this week! I do art streams from my twitch account, BabyCharmander, and I’d like to get back to streaming work on the comic. Possibly, anyway. Working on it in general, at least.

As far as life outside of this little project goes, I’m now working a completely different job, and I’m hoping it’ll impact my ability to work on this project in a positive way. We’ll see how it  goes, I suppose!

Update! My beta reader has finally finished reading over the script. While I still can’t get back to Issue Zero just yet, I can work on editing the script. I’m currently discussing a few issues with it with her, but overall this draft of the script is a significant improvement over the rough draft.

What I’ll be doing next is compiling all the notes on things that need to be fixed into a single document so I can keep track of it (It’s a big script!) and then actually work on the editing. Unless I discover something significantly huge that needs to be changed, I don’t think this draft requires an entire rewrite--at most it seems like a few scenes may need to be reordered and a few more may need to be added.

This is really good news, as it means the script is very, very close to completion!!

My life is still ... um... not perfect at the moment, but I’m also working on making a significant change in my life that will enable me to work on my own projects more often...

Sorry for the continued lack of updates! I’ve been busy with commissions and real life stuff as of late, but the script is continuing to be edited behind the scenes. Issue Zero meanwhile is still on hold until I finish ALL my current commissions or... make some changes in my life. Will update here when one of those two things happens.

It’s been a while so I’ll post a quick update!

I’m starting to get a handle on my life again, but the comic is on hold because I am working on commissions! Once those are done I’ll be able to get back to the comic. (Though after taking a break from a great amount of creative stuff, I REALLY want to get back to working on the comic soon... Maybe I’ll try to work on both the commissions and the comic, but we’ll see!)

I was messing around with some paper samples and pens I never use. Wound up drawing two ALitD beings—a listener and a scenter/deathmaw.

The writing says, in order...

“Blindly searching”

“To whom do you belong, my friend”

“beware the deathmaw”

Nothing particularly meaningful. I wasn’t feeling well and just scribbled whatever came to mind.

I haven’t worked on the comic in a while because my life is a tad chaotic at the moment. I’ll get back to it.

So this commission is several years old--hence the old design for Blazingcoral there--but I still love this a lot, and I got permission from the artist, AbsoluteDream, to post it here!

I really loved seeing this artist’s take on my characters and it influenced the way I drew Bartholomew a bit, haha.

I do want to get back to working on the comic proper soon--I know it’s been a while. I just hit a rough spot and things in my life have been... turbulent, to say the least, with some recent happenings with family and work. But I’ll try to find my feet again soon.

Finished page 2! Here’s a little preview. :D

I got a bit thrown off this week due to screwing up my sleep schedule, but I really should be working on this comic every weekday (at least) to try to stay consistent. For some reason before I work on a page I always get the feeling of “eeeh I don’t want to work on art today” but I always feel really good while and after I do it. (Similar to exercise I suppose.)

Thanks to the people who have been joining me on my streams, BTW! I appreciate it a lot, as the streams help me keep focused! Remember, I stream (nearly) every weekday morning, so keep an eye out for when I link streams here!

oops I found Heroforge

The bladebeaks are the only characters I could make through this unfortunately (they’re the only twolegs with a humanlike posture), and even then there’s a few things I would like different (I couldn’t give them fangs and I couldn’t give Nathaniel his eyepatch, which is why he’s turned so the covered eye wouldn’t be seen), but even then the customization is incredible.

But uh, yeah, here’s Bartholomew and Nathaniel made in Heroforge.

...Also I realize this is the first picture of Nathaniel I’ve posted here in spite of the fact that I’ve been drawing him for 10+ years, oops. But yes, he is green.

...I think I accidentally deleted my progress post so um, I’ll remake that one later.

But in case you missed the other post from yesterday, I have begun working on Issue Zero! I’ll be streaming the rest of the process from here on out (more or less--I did fiddle around with the dialogue bubbles off-stream) so you guys can watch me if you like! I typically stream on weekday mornings and there’ll always be a post here when a stream is happening!

As for when I’ll start posting it, that remains to be seen--I’d like to have a buffer of at least 5 or 6 pages. I’d also like to see how long it takes me to do each page (which is part of the point of doing this whole bonus issue) so I can determine how often I’ll be posting every week! (Most likely 1 page per week, but I’d like to do more than that if it’s possible.)

They say you should burn brightly... but not all fires are lit the same. Be careful of the fires you ignite, for there are some lights that demons do not fear. 

I went back and forth as to whether or not I should post this or not, and finally went ahead. I was originally going to post this (and my other promo pieces) all in one post, but I figure I can post them separately as well.

This is Blazingcoral, the heroine of my upcoming webcomic, A Light in the Darkness. In this story, she must navigate a world torn by hatred, prejudice, and demons.

Issue Zero’s thumbnails are NOW COMPLETE!!

Here’s the plan now:

Finish some pieces of concept art in order to promote the comic (at least 3)

Continue editing ALitD’s script (which can only progress as fast as the last beta reader gets back to me)

Start working on Issue Zero’s actual pages!!

I’ll be finishing up the concept pieces first so that I can post those to drum up more interest in the comic. After that, I’ll start working on Issue Zero! All of this will be streamed, so you can see my progress yourself.
