Finn smiled in deep appreciation in Shiloh’s direction, moving to join them on the couch in the living room. “Hah,” he chuckled in agreement, remembering the odd meals he’d settled for in his college days. “That or Ramen.” Finn sat when they instructed him too, seeing the TV too and absentmindedly taking a blanket for himself from the back of the couch. “God, I love this show.”
“Yeah, that was a big one. My friends had a lot of frozen dinners, too.” Shiloh responded, nestling into Finn’s side as their eyes stayed glued to the television. “Me too. I’ve seen every season at least twelve times.” They stayed silent for a moment before turning to look at the food that he’d brought over. It had been a while since Shiloh had last eaten, mainly because their last meal was somewhere around noon because their bank account was currently in the negatives until later that day. “D’ya mind if I have some of that?”

Marcus nodded along with her words, momentarily glancing down the street before his eyes returned to browsing her features. “Let’s try the new place. A fresh experience for both of us.” He proposed, a gentle tug of his lips setting a warm feel to his expression.
“Fresh experience sounds good.” They replied, tucking a few loose strands of hair behind their ear. “I’m Shiloh, by the way. It’s nice to meet you.” Shiloh walked away from their car and up onto the sidewalk, pressing the button on their keys to lock their vehicle before tucking them away. “Even though this isn’t the most conventional way to meet someone.”

“I know, I know,” Finn returned in humble deprecation, his voice soft to reflect the exhaustion in Shiloh’s voice. “Yeah?” he asked hopefully, stepping inside of their apartment. “Well, takeout is the most popular breakfast food in America,” Finn lied spinning the plastic bag around itself in his hand.
“Yeah, yeah. I can’t stay mad at you for too long.” Shiloh mumbled, closing the door behind him as he stepped inside, padding into the living room to plop down on the couch once more. “Among college kids, maybe.” They replied, already wrapping themselves up in their blanket again, glancing over at their television as another episode of Parks and Recreation started. “Come sit.”

“As was I —- but times change, people grow up.”
“Still. I mean, nothing against you, I’m sure you’re a great guy. I’ve just never had good luck when the boys in blue are around.”

Slowly, subtly, a curve shaped his lips into a faint smile, a nod setting motion to his head. “I think I can squeeze a coffee in.” His eyes momentarily wandered over her after he let the words drip off his tongue. “If you have a favorite spot in mind, I’ll let you take the lead. Or we can just walk until we stumble upon the first coffeeshop we see”
“Perfect.” Shiloh replied, glancing down at their phone momentarily, missing the once over that the other had given them. “Well, there’s usually a place that I go to that’s a few blocks from here, but I know there’s a new shop that just opened over by my friend’s studio. I’m down for whatever.” They looked up at him, little gleam in their eye as they took in the details of his face. His eyes. His lips. Oh man, those lips.

mia-ralston:
She was running out of excuses to tell the waiter. A blind date was never a good idea, especially now that she had been stood up. Smiling at the waiter again, she ordered yet another glass of water before looking at the clock again. “This is so embarrassing,” she muttered to herself, shaking her head as she couldn’t stop thinking that the waiters were placing bets on how much longer she would wait before leaving like in that Friends episode.
Shiloh had been watching the girl for a solid fifteen minutes now, knowing that she had to be waiting for someone else to show up. It was uncomfortable even for them to watch. When the waiter left to get her water, Shi picked up their own glass of beer and headed over to her, sitting down in front of her. “Would it be a little less shitty if I sat with you for a bit? I mean, I already ate, but I’ll be your date for tonight.”

Hattie had gone into hiding for a few days, not feeling entirely like herself and dealing with the worst case of art block. It was only when she ran out of milk and cereal that the young girl decided to finally leave her home and head to the diner to grab some food. She had been staring off into the distance when she heard someone speak, “What? I’m sorry I wasn’t really listening. Were you talking to me?”
“I was just asking if I could join you.” Shiloh replied softly, already slipping into the booth to sit across from the blonde girl. “Is everything okay? You seem...out of it.” They weren’t always the best at picking up on emotions, but anybody could see that something was troubling her.

“It’s just one drink –– What? You too good to be seen with a lowly officer of the law?“
“That’s not what I said at all. I just usually don’t hang out with cops. I was around you guys enough as a kid.”

The alleviation he felt may not have been fully vocalized but it was indirectly apparent on his softening demeanor, as the small brunette spoke so positively, reaching to their pocket to offer him the very needed coins. “That’s plenty. Thank you.” He offered, his voice strumming in a sincere tune. “If there’s anything I can do to return the favor, just name it.”
Shiloh put the small bag underneath the passenger’s seat before closing their car door. “Well, if you’ve got time to kill, I’d love an iced coffee on this lovely day.” They offered, a little grin on their face as they leaned back against their vehicle.

“Yes, yeah, fine. I know it’s late,” Finn ceded, raising dark eyes to see the understandable annoyance etched on the face of his spontaneous destination. “But I brought Chinese food.” He smiled cheekily, lifting a plastic bag eye level. “Can I come in, please?”
Shiloh sighed, wiping a hand down their face as they shuffled to the side, letting Finn in. “I hate you.” They grumbled, voice still tinged with sleep, making it obvious that they’d just been woken up from. “But I’m starving, so come in.”

The weather was brisk, the sky clear for once. Which made Marcus a little bitter seeing as he had several errands to run in the afternoon. He wasn’t in a hurry by any means, it just needed to get done. Preferably today. Stepping out of his truck, Marcus reached his hand down his back pocket, fishing out his wallet to feed the meter. And of course, the meter had to be one of the last coin-fed ones in Montreal. It was as if the ridiculous device was laughing in his face, seeing as there was no coin in sight resting in his wallet. Usually he had at least a couple of quarters scrambling around somewhere, but after using most of them for leisure tips and toll fees during his trip over the weekend he was now left cash-less. “Hey, I hate to be that guy. But do you got some cash to spare? I’ll pay you back” Directing the words to the first person walking by, his voice was gentle, apologetic even, as he asked for the favor.
Shiloh’s meeting with their clients let out a little earlier than they anticipated, meaning it gave them time to run into a boutique and purchase the necklace they’d eyed earlier for their mother’s birthday. Being such a small business, the hours were ridiculous, so they’d entered the store with a little under half an hour before they closed for the day. They proudly took the small little bag and change from the cashier, shoving the money in their back pocket and exiting the store. The rest of the day was clear for them, especially now that they knew what type of artwork the coffee shop owners wanted in their store. Shiloh had just unlocked their car when someone started talking to them, making them look over at the stranger. “Lucky you caught me on a good day.” They joked, reaching in their back pocket for some of the coins left over. “Here you go. I’m not sure how much you need, but that should cover it.”

“You see, caramel macchiato is always my go-to coffee. Always. But then the problem is what to get for breakfast. Cream cheese bagel? Ham cheese sandwich? Egg sandwich?”
“James, I swear you’re a mess. It’s all about getting a bacon and egg bagel. That should be a no brainer.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” He questioned in a playful manner of course. “I’d say that you are the best dressed here. Over the top my ass.”
“Oh stop.” Shiloh said, playfully pushing his shoulder with their free hand. “You gotta say that, you’re my best friend.” They couldn’t help but giggle, though. They felt beautiful and confident in their outfit, plus the alcohol was working wonders.

“Right, I had good reason, too,” said Ben with a laugh, although he couldn’t help but roll his eyes at his own stupidity. It had all been pretty ridiculous to be honest, but he’d been having a ridiculously bad day. “I think anyone would have laughed, though, and God I do not blame them. I was such a fucking drama queen that day.”
“I have half a mind to believe that you’re a drama queen at all times.” Shiloh joked, thanking the bartender when he placed the two glasses in front of them. They picked theirs up and held it up to him, waiting to toast with him. “Here’s to the rest of this night, I guess. I hope I’m drunk as hell before the night ends.”

“Thank you darling.” Jake said with a smile before he placed a quick kiss to her cheek. “I can say the same about you, because damn Shi, you are looking beautiful tonight.”
“You’re welcome.” Shi replied, giggling when he kissed their cheek. “Why, thank you. I wasn’t sure if this dress was too...over the top.” In reality, it wasn’t. They were in a black evening gown, nothing too spectacular, but they never knew how to dress when it came to these things.
