When it is but it aint Some of us love badly. Sometimes the love is the type of love that implodes. Folds in on itself. Eats its insides. Turns wine to poison. Behaves poorly in restaurants. Drinks. Kisses other people. Comes back to your bed at 4am smelling like everything outside. Asks about your ex. Is jealous of your ex. Thinks everyone a rival. Some of us love others badly, love ourselves worse. Some of us love horrid, love beastly. Love sick love anti light. Sometimes the love can’t go home at night, can’t sleep with itself cannot contain itself, catches fire, destroys the belly, strips buildings, goes missing. Punches. Smashes heirlooms. Tells lies. The best lies. Fucks around. Writes poems, impresses people. Chases lovers into corners. Leaves them longing. Sea sick. Says yes. Means anything but. Tricks the body. Kills the body. Dances wild and walks away, smiling.

Eggplant is an Indian crop, so [Monsanto does] genetic engineering of eggplant. They could have chosen 500 vegetables. Why don’t they choose potatoes for India? Why eggplant? Because it is native to India and we have 4,500 varieties. Why do they want to plant – by bullying – on six million acres – GM corn in Mexico? Because corn is the sacred crop of Mexico and the Andes. So basically, while the justification is, “We are doing science,” the reality is they are unleashing a war against our sacred cultures.

i was blown away. when a friend informed me that the insanely talented ava duvernay @directher director/artist extraordinaire. director of ‘selma’ shared ‘ism’. i was beyond. beyond. beyond. honored. she is the first african american woman to be nominated in the category of best director for ‘selma’. this incredible film which focuses in on the rudiments of the civil rights’ movement. and sheds light on the immense power and energy of the women of movement. is a glowing triumph. and even more so. on this day when we relive and remember the work and legacy of dr. martin luther king and the civil rights’ movement. may we continue to celebrate. honor. and illuminate the glorious. glorious. genius and giantness of the women. who have. and are. changing this world.
