Shameless Music Video Interpretation part 2

Hope you've read part 1 because I'm building on the ideas I've already developed. Most of the lyrics are the same in the remainder of the song so this post will focus on the visuals of the music video which are key my interpretation.

As the song continues, Camila suddenly notices a crowd of people around her. In the first shot of the street, the people suddenly approaching her are obvious. In the second shot, there are people around her but in shadows. You can only make out their outlines. She doesn't stop confessing of her love even though she looks visibly scared. With the exception of when she's trying to touch the priestess through the screen showing her desperate desire to reach her.

They aren't necessarily paying attention to her but are all around her which looks daunting. This could hint at how she's constantly in the public eye. As well as constantly surrounded by people watching her every move from the shadows. She only feels safe in the confession box even though the is a screen between her and the one she desires because this is the only time she is truly alone to express herself fully.

The girls dancing in red are all identical to Camila. They seem to be a part of her and move in sync for the most part whenever shown. Perhaps it represents her emotions which are magnified. The way the girls stomp in unison only depicts how powerful her feelings truly are at this stage. It's every ounce of her body that feels this attraction and this force is what is giving her the confidence to continue singing her truth despite the people around her.

Her movements are almost entirely identical to Lauren Jauregui's from her music video 'Expectations'. Especially both her and Camila running in a white dress.

In Feb 2018, Lauren had told us "Pay attention to the synchronicity. Pay attention to the signs."

Well, Lauren, there is a whole lot of synchronicity going on here!

These lines are depicted with some visuals of Camila close to a person. It could be a guy but Camila never focuses on this person the way she kept focusing on the priestess. The shots are only a second or two long. We never see the face. And the shot is mostly of Camila. We don't even see the entire back of the head of this person. Camila has used men to depict love interests in other music videos but again, the signs point to a female especially Lauren being her real love interest. If everything is considered, it's what makes the most sense.

And I don't care if I'm forgiven

Forgiveness only comes into play when there is an aspect of sin. Homosexuality is considered a sin in Christianity. And it makes it more likely that Camila would be speaking of that.

There are a few more interesting visuals added in Shameless. One is of her levitating while others are dancing in a party. And another of her floating in smoke.

Levitation - It appears that she's floating in water. Considering the environment where everyone seems to be enjoying themselves and drinking themselves, it could be her feeling high off the effects of alcohol.

Smoke - Camila's floating here as well but the smoke has completely blurred her surroundings. She has her eyes closed at one point. Maybe this is her state of denial. She tries to escape her reality (not sure if it could represent the smoke of weed) until her emotions (girls in red) rudely pull her back in.

After this point you see Camila smile as she continues to sing. And we get one more iconic moment shown from several angles. And more crawling similar to Lauren's.

I truly got chills watching Camila repeat the scenes!

Towards the end, she is carelessly singing and dancing in front of everyone who don't seem to be reacting (probably since her lover is still hidden). She falls down on her knees and the video ends with her setting fire to the confessional. She is ready to accept her truth. Are we?

anyway, lauren is gorgeous and a completely soft, caring human being. she's so passionate and genuine and i admire her so much for always standing up for what she believes in. i definitely see a future of politics for her if the label continues fucking her around.

I really hope that señorita wins zero of the 4 VMAs it's been nominated for. not because of camila and sh*wn, but because of their stupid ass teams. I want their teams to see that this PR isn't working. if señorita wins 2 or 3 VMAs, it's gonna make their teams think that the PR was a good idea and encourage them to continue doing similar things in the future. I do think it might win best cinematography and best art direction though (even though some of the other music videos are much better)

It’s 2019. You can now stop assuming that everyone is straight. You can now stop believing that everyone should be straight. We’re older than the sea. We’ve been around forever. If you ignore me it doesn’t mean that i don’t exist. I’m still here. Living my life. I’m still REAL. 

You can now stop pretending that you don’t know some people fake relationships. I would tell you to not take it personally but maybe someone IS faking it because of YOU. Don’t let people around you guessing. Tell them. Tell them it’s okay to be who you are. Tell them you’ll stand for their rights and protect them because they belong to you. They are your gang. Your inner circle, the best place to start. But most of the times it has nothing to do with you. Most of the times we have no fucking clue. Who knows what inner monologues, what emotional angst, what psychological wars, what fears that take their breath away, what large amount of money, what life plans, what an amazing friendship and so on and so on, is behind someone’s decision to fake a relationship? Or should i say, to fake the romantic involvement in a sort of kind of relationship?

You can now ask yourself if PR relationships exist. A PR relationship is not the same as using your REAL relationship for PR, though. And a PR relationship does not = bearding. Fake relationship day in and day out it doesn’t necessarily mean that these people are gay. But would gay people lie and say they’re straight? Oh, i lied so many times. Just as i came out so many times. Don’t fool yourself, you’ll never know the exact reason why someone lies about it, because it’s a very personal and private decision.
