Los Angeles’s Mysterious Blackout in 1994 |Sinistrous View in the skyLos Angeles’s Mysterious Blackout in 1994 |Sinistrous View in the sky
Did you know that one third of the world’s population has never seen a milky way?
This is due to the light pollution that causes the distractions between us and the colossus Milky way. Especially in cities, it is impossible for a Milky way to be visible through naked eyes. As soon as the sky gets darker, the streetlights are automatically turned on to illuminate our way.
“…as the light pollution spreads, we are slowly losing one of the oldest and most universal links to all of human history”
~Peter Limpscomb, Santa Fe Astronomer
However, in 1994 there was a mysterious event (as explained by the locals) that horrified the people in Los Angeles.
It was early morning 4 AM when the city was silent and very few cars and people where on the street. An earthquake of 6.7 magnitude scale has rumbled across the city, which alarmed the people in their sleep. People confused and terrified came out of their home to the street and saw a sinistrous view in the sky. The sinistrous view was nothing but, THE MILKY WAY.
The sky was flushed with twinkling stars, celestial bodies and even one or two satellites were visible through naked eyes. For some people the view was so frightening and sinistrous that they even called 911 to express about the large, silvery cloud hanging over the city. They have just seen the Milky way galaxy for the first time in their entire lifetime.
Due to the earthquake the electricity was cut off in the whole city and due to early hours, there were few cars on the street which led to minimal light pollution. As a result, this magnanimous view was visible.
