I always knew this day would come, but honestly, I just hoped it wouldn’t be so soon. After falling in love with the Rangers, I quickly became a big fan of this man, Dan Girardi. His sheer determination, heart, grit, passion and sacrifice both on and off the ice inspired me to be better.

After going undrafted, he played eleven seasons with an original six team, became assistant captain for said team, played 910 games, blocked over two thousand shots, scored a total of 52 goals, became leader of the all time playoff appearances list for the Rangers, a Bill Masterson trophy nominee, became an NHL All Star, won the league, becoming an eastern conference winner and a Stanley Cup Finalist.

Where ever the next chapter of his journey takes him, you can count on me to follow and to continue supporting him. Once a blueshirt, always a blueshirt. #5 💕

I would like to thank Dan Girardi for his time as a New York Ranger. He is one of the few members of the team who has been there since I started following the Rangers about 8 years ago. It will be very strange not seeing him on the blue line next year

Say what you want about Dan Girardi, but he was a team player. Always gave 110%, age and injuries were catching up to him.

Wish him and his family nothing but the best wherever he goes.

Dan Girardi went undrafted and then went onto play 11 seasons in the NHL for an original six team. G was nothing but a class act and a hell of a player/teammate/guy. The NYR will not be the same without him and it’ll be wicked weird not seeing #5 on the ice.

[Being a New York Ranger] means everything, I think. It’s an Original Six franchise, one of the more famous teams in the league, just overall with the players that have been here and the numbers in the rafters. And just to be able to play at Madison Square Garden, where everything in the world happens there. It’s a great place to call home. I think this fan base is one of the best. When you’re winning, there’s no better place to play. They’re loud, and they’re happy for you, and they keep you honest, too, out there. That’s what a good fan base does. We’re not playing well, they’re gonna let you know. It’s up to us to get ourselves going and get them excited about the game. It’s been an amazing ride.

Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into this club for the past ten years, G. Good luck on all your future endeavours. You will be dearly missed. ♡
