🌈Hello book lovers!🌈 * So, my friend @inkandmagic_reading tagged me to do the #rainbowstack book challenge. I had a blast going through all my books to make a rainbow! Turns out, I have a lot of red and black books, haha. * It's looking like a rainy weekend where I live. Perfect weather for staying inside and reading a lot! Maybe I'll see a real rainbow in the next couple days, too. * I am continuing the fun and tagging @aliciaceasar @reneethereader @author_nicole_mattingly @yourbookishfriendmelissa to make a rainbow with your books! * What color books do you have the most of on your shelves? Have a wonderful weekend! https://www.instagram.com/p/CEKyo67leOS/?igshid=1qr43lfh9tcsz

I was wondering what your feelings are on books with wear and tear. I know people who seem to think that the only way to love a book is to keep it in mint condition, which is great and all, but if I love a book it's definitely going to get banged up. My favorite book has puffed pages from dropping it in the bath, food stains because I couldn't stop reading even to eat, and the back cover is mostly nonexistent. Do you think if you love a book you should keep it in the best possible condition?
No, I think if you love a book it’s going to be dropped into puddles and get soup on it, and eventually wind up in a plastic bag because all the pages are loose, like the copies of Good Omens that arrive at signings from embarrassed people who hope I won’t mind. And I never ever do.

Happy Birthday Tim Burton (August 25, 1958)
Thank you for the art!
“ I have a problem when people say something’s real or not real, or normal or abnormal. The meaning of those words for me is very personal and subjective. I’ve always been confused and never had a clearcut understanding of the meaning of those kinds of words.“

Forbidden Brides Of The Faceless Slaves In The Secret House Of The Night Of Dread Desire HC by Shane Oakley
Forbidden Brides of the Faceless Slaves in the Secret House of the Night of Dread Desire HC Neil Gaiman (W), Shane Oakley (A/C/Cover), and Nick Filardi © On sale Jan 25 FC, 48 pages $17.99 HC, 7" x 10" A celebrated send-up of gothic literature, beautifully adapted into a dark, brooding, and oddly comical graphic novel. Somewhere in the night, a raven caws, an author’s pen scratches, and thunder claps. The author wants to write nonfiction: stories about frail women in white nightgowns, mysterious bumps in the night, and the undead rising to collect old debts. But he keeps getting interrupted by the everyday annoyances of talking ravens, duels to the death, and his sinister butler. • Shane Oakley beautifully illustrates New York Times best-selling author Neil Gaiman’s satirical tale. “It’s about what fantasy is, and why we write it, and what it would mean to write fantasy if you lived in a Gothic universe.” – Neil Gaiman

Quote
Novels aren’t just happy escapes; they are slivers of people’s souls, nailed to the pages, dripping ink from veins of wood pulp. Reading the right one at the right time can make all the difference.

Such simple words, but sometimes, such a complicated execution.
Some writers take the Myers-Briggs test for their characters, some cast tarot for them. Do you have any secrets or tricks to help with characterization?
Mostly it’s being quiet and listening to what they say, and then writing it down. And throwing obstacles at them and finding out what they do, and writing that down.

My favorite Johnny Depp character. Perhaps it is because I am a pirate at heart.

FAVORITE CHARACTER AESTHETICS  → Captain Jack Sparrow (potc)
“Me? I’m dishonest, and a dishonest man you can always trust to be dishonest. Honestly. It’s the honest ones you want to watch out for, because you can never predict when they’re going to do something incredibly… stupid.”
