This quote is something I truly believe in. I think people should become more accepting of everyone. It's not hard to be kind to others and spread positivity. The only thing keeping us from being nicer to others is ourselves and our ignorance to see that. Harry Styles has a song called "Treat People With Kindness" and I think it also is another media that can relate to this as well.

Get Out & The Help
Both films relate to each other because of race. I feel like that is the only similarity between both film because then in The Help, one of the white people in the film is looked at as a savior. In Get Out, the white people in the film are the bad ones because they are trying to hypnotize and take over Chris' body.

The film Get Out was crazy to watch. At first I thought that the parents did not want to accept Chris being with their daughter and that was the reason for their passive aggressiveness. Turns out they were using hypnosis techniques to try and control his body. This is crazy and absurd. How much control do they want and especially from black people. It is sickening to watch what her parents do. This film relates to the class because it involves the control and superiority white people want over black people.

After watching The Help, and how the black women shared theirs stories, it reminded me of a show on Netflix I watched called "When They See Us". It is about 5 black men, ranging in ages of 14-16 years old. They were wrongfully accused of raping a woman in Central Park, and because of the color of their skin, no one believed them. They spent between 5-12 years in prison.

The Help & Gook
I did not find much similarities within both films. The only thing they had in common were that they talked about the struggles within minority groups. In Gook it was the struggles of Asian Americans, and in The Help we have the struggles that black women faced.

I had mixed emotions while watching this film. I was happy to see that the black women were speaking up and in a way were given some voice. On the other hand, it was hard to see how much hate is win people. This film relates to the class because the movie is centered on the struggles that black women faced.

The film Gook reminds me of the rise in racism against Asian Americans in the past year. Many Asian Americans were attacked by people because of the coronavirus. People began to associate Asians with the virus and blame them for all of it.

Gook & Moonlight
I feel like both films are similar in how each protagonist is not socially accepted. They both face stereotypes and struggle to leave the position they are in. Both films have violence and show the struggles they had to face. In Gook we see how Asian Americans in rough neighborhoods struggled, and in Moonlight we see how a black male struggled in a rough neighborhood.

In my opinion Gook was a very intense movie. It was crazy to see how much hatred each different group had against each other. I think it was hard to see the how much violence people went through as well. This film fits the theme of the class because it shows the racism of minority groups towards each other.

Moonlight reminded me of this song by Lady Gaga called "Born This Way". I feel like everyone should learn to be more accepting of people. We can't control who someone is, or who someone likes. We just have to accept everyone as they come and I feel like this song helps with that but also for people to learn to accept themselves as well.

Moonlight & The Breakfast Club
A similar theme I found in both movies is the struggle of acceptance, and worrying about what others think. We have Chiron in Moonlight who is a gay black male, which is not often displayed within society. In The Breakfast Club we have teens who come from different social groups and find it hard to accept that they each enjoy each other's company. These films show us that everybody has struggles with themselves.

Moonlight takes us through the life of Chiron. We see him grow up and see his struggles that he faced. He is a black gay male growing up in a society where that is not taken easily. He struggles with trying to be himself without worrying about what society thinks about him. This film relates to our class because throughout the semester we have watched films based on race and gender, and with this film we touch a similar topic which is a black gay male. The film shows us how Chiron struggled to accept himself and how others did not accept him either.

The Breakfast Club reminds me of the movie Frozen. All the kids struggle with their identity throughout the music and the pressure of everyone around them. Elsa also struggle with finding herself. She is locked away for many years and she is alone most of the time. When people finally see who she truly is they fear her and make her look like a monster. This scares her away until she finally accepts herself and realizes she is not the monster they paint her out to be.

The Breakfast Club & The Namesake
Both films are similar because they both have characters who face an identity crisis. Gogol struggles to accept his Indian culture and tries to adopt American culture into is life. In The Breakfast Club, the kids struggle with their identities as well. They all play a part in school in order to maintain their status, but it is not who they truly want to be.

The Breakfast Club
I enjoyed watching this film. I've seen bits of the movie before but never in one sitting. I have seen parodies of the film so I thought I understood the film, but now that I look back at it, I realize there are so many other interpretations of the film. The film shows how students are judged by their economic status. Claire is a rich white girl, so she is popular. Brian is very smart and because of that he is painted as a Nerd. This goes for all the other stereotypes in the movie. This film relates to the class because in the movie we see the kids struggling with their identities. They are all from complete different social groups, but they realize that they enjoy each others company. Claire lets everyone know that she can not be seen with them because it could ruin her reputation.

The Paper Menagerie by Ken Liu reminds me of Gogol. In this story the author talks about how he was embarrassed of his Chinese culture. His mother was Chinese and his father was a white man. He was traumatized by his culture after being bullied. He did not want anything to do with it and he even resented his mother for it. He made his mother speak only English to him and she barely spoke any English. He lost his relationship with his mother because of his resentment towards his culture.

The Namesake & Mi Familia
Both films are similar because you have two families who have immigrated to the United States in search for better lives for their families. In both films we see the struggles both families face due to their racial identities. In both families there are also children who face identity crisis and are embarrassed of their culture.
