I don’t like male policing of male behavior being called “patriarchy backfiring” because it’s not. Male policing is not some horrible flaw in the patriarchal system for men that they didn’t see coming, it does not have the opposite effect of what was intended, which is male supremacy, male policing does exactly what it is intended to do. it was essential in creating, and in maintaining, patriarchy. Boys being emotionally hardened and punished for identifying in any way with girls, while they are being harmed, is nothing like how girls are treated, boys are being trained to become uncaring and aggressive towards girls & women, which is not patriarchy backfiring, it’s patriarchy being maintained.

if you think of your attention as a watering can the more you give it to others the more you’re allowing them to grow as you neglect yourself. turn your focus inward. water your own grass first.

So I lost my temper with all of the “books you must read before you die” “books to read to be considered well-read” lists that were like, at least 75% male, and made a different list. Obviously it’s skewed by what I’m familiar with, but I’ve tried to get it to be a broad range. Give it a go!

Are you a woman who spends 4+ hours a week of your own free time reading and writing about society? If you are, that means you're supposed to be a leader. Do you see all those men taking up leadership positions? Most of them are not supposed to be in those positions. But you are.
If you're a woman who has a mind that always wanders towards thinking about dynamic systems, you're supposed to lead.
"But I'm depressed."
That's because you're supposed to have power that you don't have right now.
"But I don't want to lead."
The best leaders usually don't want to do it.
"I don't know how to lead."
There's a long history of female leadership in sports, science, aviation, art, and revolution. But I find that leadership examples in team sports are easy to follow and apply. I like to compile quotes from female point guards because that just works for me. Find leaders that inspire you and they will teach you to lead.
"That's nice but I'm doing this other thing with my life."
Great leaders have a wide variety of skills and interests.
"I am NOT a people person."
It's a stereotype that women can only lead effectively through compassion and sensitivity. Female leaders can also be effective through blunt, harsh, and unyielding communication. You don't need to be a people person to lead.
We don't need women leading male governments. We need women building new systems and new governments. We need women leading with new ideas now more than ever. And if you're one of those systems thinkers, keep in mind that you have a responsibility to lead. You don't need to push yourself or move mountains or achieve the impossible. Just keep an eye out for opportunities to build new systems.

You know what work needs more positive recognition? The people (overwhelmingly women) who do these jobs:
Women who do trauma cleaning and no-judgement cleanings as their jobs to help people with severe mental illnesses. I think it's an area of women's work that isn't really talked about. Plenty of women are so passionate about doing this work that they start their own businesses.
Think about the different angles in which this is so incredibly helpful to not just the individuals but society. Less people likely struggle with ongoing health conditions because of this work. More social connections are probably made because these residents no longer afraid to invite professional, personal, and romantic contacts over after these cleans are done. Higher work productivity because these residents are not constantly thinking about the big overwhelming cleaning task in the back of their minds whether they work from home or not. Less damage done to the home if this is dealt with. Less vet bills being spent on really sick animals who might live there. General overall ability for people with mental health conditions to improve psychologically.
It's incredibly disgusting and time consuming work, yet it seems like many of these women genuinely find the helping other people aspect of it really rewarding.
And then there's also just women who are doing this for fucking free for the people they love:

I don't have the patience for edgy comedy anymore because it's always the same groups of people who are the target of the offence and are told to laugh it off by people who are never made fun of. There's nothing subversive or comedic about it, it's bigotry with an excuse.
