Anon makes an excellent point
One thing I want to explain to the puritanical side of Twitter is that no one is saying you can’t have opinions on celebrities. Everyone does and there’s no point in pretending otherwise. The disconnect emerges when you think your opinion should matter to them and affect their life choices. No matter how much of someone’s life you think you see, they still don’t owe you anything. They don’t owe you accountability, explanations, even honesty in many cases. Also acting like living a perfectly progressive life where you never consume, interact with, or say anything that could be deemed problematic is insane. We’ve moved away from levels of bad and good to just a perfect-evil dichotomy.

Ooh I’ve been chatting with some folks about this topic but we got to a Truman v Matty concept. Matty is who your anon was looking for. Truman is the scummy, 90s rocker, instamodel dude. Only the two have been in our faces and they have been a month apart with work or hiding time between.
I’m actually curious how much this plays into SATVB. He is really playing into some of the parasocial tropes Brad has been talking about.
It has been very weird to only dive into Matty/the 75 after the beginning of May. I sought out a bunch of interviews and performances from the 6 months or so before that, so I saw happy, glowing Matty on stage in Australia and Asia, and at all the Eras shows. I watched so many interviews about BFIAFL and heard him onstage speaking about sincerity, and love, and finding a partner/family/something real. So I thought that was the real, genuine Matty and felt so bad when he seemed to be spiraling and desperately grasping for connection all summer. Now I’m just like…oh, I guess April/May Matty was the exception and this Matty is the real one, whoopsies! Fell in love with the moment on accident!
…still going to multiple tour dates for SATVB tho haha
Just hoping everything comes to light once the tour starts!

it's funny how swifties never realize like she's also talking about us when she discusses fame/the public eye. when she says she feels like she's always being observed she could mean the paparazzi but her fans are also camping outside her nyc apartment whenever she's in the city. when she says people try to run paternity tests on her songs she might be talking about tabloids but the fandom is also constantly discussing dates and outfits and locations to figure who each song could be about. when she says she doesn't feel like a person she could mean the public at large seeing her as a character or a brand but her fans never really treat her like a human being either. anyways

This is a good point for anyone that follows a celebrity or pop culture
For people who believe anonymous sources in these gossips articles and think just because they gave details the details are accurate…or even somehow from celebrities teams…just look at the Sandra Bullock articles that were all running wild leading up to her partner’s passing.
These media publications just looking for clicks do not care about how sketchy their sources are when it comes to celebrities. They know they won’t face any repercussions from the celebrities…or their readers. So they will run with anything for clicks and revenue. And once one runs with it the others follow.
I can’t imagine how awful it was for her and his loved ones seeing those stories while they were going through such a painful time.

Fan’s narrative: Matty is a wreck and spiraling…we’re so worried…someone needs to fix him…
Reality: Matty is out there living his life dolphin watching and excited about dolphin babies.

Came back to tumblr after a brief hiatus and this is one of the first things I see. What is happening?? 😂😂
I scroll and get context don’t worry but this was just funny!
That article is stupid, she admits she doesnt like taylor bec shes never been to rehab or has battled addiction. Lol
So Taylor would be more relatable if she was a recovering addict of some kind?!

“When I was younger, music was a portal,” he explains. That line from The Cable Guy was the first time that idea had occurred to him. “I soundtracked my life. My wish was that in all of those moments where I felt certain things, they were viewed with a musical memory. That’s why The 1975 became so cinematic.” Documenting his life in song, “you can see the inspiration from John Hughes and the cinematic portrayal of youth and that apocalyptic feeling of being young,” across both albums. “That all comes from me wanting to live my life soundtracked.”
— Matty Healy for Dork Magazine (December 2016)
