february madness
This internship process can be compared to March Madness for the College Basketball world. On Feb.1, the applicants that were bold enough to apply to this ultimate experience picked a region. I picked the Marketing Strategist. Throughout all of February, we all blogged, tweeted, facebooked, and instagramed and then the Elite 10 of each region was picked.  We were given a task and from then, a final three was picked. Now it's the finals. Each region will have one final intern. The ultimate intern. These 5 interns will make up the ULTIMATE intern team. Characteristics comparable to the US Basketball Team in the Olympics of 1992.
THE DREAM TEAM.

Final Destination
It's getting closer and closer to Friday and while flying to London today, I began to realize what a journey I've made since the beginning of this application process. Starting off in the beginning of February when I found out about the ultimate intern team at school in Turin, Italy to now as I sit in a hotel near Queensway, London I have been in 5 different countries while maintaining this blog. I've seen the gorgeous Royal Place in Brussels, Belgium then blogged about my international marketing experiences on #allUAeverything. I experienced Carnival in Venice then blogged about what I bring to the table at UnderArmour. I rode a scooter in France then discussed my communication skills and now I am finally around English speakers and get to finish up my "park hopper" experience by discussing the added value someone with a multicultural background can bring to a team. I have alway been surrounded by people from around the world and each culture has left a mark on me. This is important when working on a team because I have learned to respect everyone's opinions and I am alway eager to learn and listen. This can be considered a valuable trait because there is never only one right way to do something but having the ability to mix and match from each person's individual beliefs and opinions can create a very unique, innovative, and most of all above standard end product. I am from the world. I am here to learn. Are you from here?

Pe'Shon Howard, Maryland basketball player, showing his support for me.
Pe'Shon is definitely part of team UA and never fails to show the brand love whether he is on the court or walking around campus or just hanging out. He always has something UnderArmour on.

the passion.
While messaging all my friends on facebook and tweeting at them to like my facebook page in support of my campaign to be the Ultimate Marketing Strategist, I was repeatedly asked why I was so driven to get this internship.
Someone then proceeded to ask me, is it paid? And I responded no, but it’s my dream. I’m all about UnderArmour. Not just the products that UA produces, but I’m all about the company’s mission and it’s innovative business techniques.
How many companies have you seen ask applicants to interact with each other and market themselves in the social media world in order to impress the staff. This is not a typically application process but it is one of the reasons why I love UnderArmour.
When my friend had initially asked the question “is it paid?” I don’t think he was expecting such a long answer but I was determined to let him know that this was it for me. Whenever I discuss my career goals with someone, UnderArmour most definitely pops up in conversation. My ambition to see it present in Brasil as much as I see it around University of Maryland campus (which is A LOT) and to see it grow to its full potential has made me realize why I love this company so much. It’s the kind of work that I do with a smile on my face regardless of being paid or not. This it the experience of a lifetime.
When I ranted at my friend for about 5 minutes straight, he proceeded to say “Sounds like this is what you need in life. You can do it. WE MUST PROTECT THIS HOUSE !”
And of course there is no better response to that than,
I WILL, I WILL

I love this challenge
As I sit here, 3 days prior to the announcement of the finalists in the most innovative and creative application process I have ever been a part of, I decided to think back on this past month of striving to achieve my goals and reflect on how it has already given me a new perspective on marketing and technology.
As a study abroad student currently in Torino, Italy, I was given the challenge of keeping up with the other applicants without a working smartphone and easy access to the internet. I came from the University of Maryland where a great wifi connection is provided across all of campus including outside on the mall as well as an unlimited data plan on my iPhone to a flip phone that doesn't even have a camera and limited internet access at school or in internet cafes. Most of my posts have been written in word documents and saved in a folder for hours before actually being posted because of my lack of internet access at home.
One of my weaknesses in the past has definitely been my lack of patience. I am very enthusiastic and I tend to get caught up in the moment when dealing with projects and want things to be done as quick as possible and as efficiently as possible. This past month has tested my ability to channel my frustration and has helped me overall in becoming more patient. While in the United States, a blog post can be posted instantly while here the strength of the internet is not nearly as fast and I have found myself waiting long minutes every time I want to post.
I have realized how quick and technologically enhanced life in the United States is and how the inability to post as often as I wish could cause my application to be the underdog compared to others. I have taken it as a personal challenge though, to prove that determination and ambition can break the barriers of communication and allow for me to compete at the same level as others no matter where I may be. I used my global view and culture to strengthen my application. I don't see this as something that is holding me back anymore. I see it as a challenge. I see it as a means to prove that my love for UnderArmour and for this internship stand high in my priority list.
I know that I am an ULTIMATE choice for UnderArmour and when one's mind is made up, it diminishes fear. Every moment of this past month, I have had UnderArmour and this internship in the back of my mind thinking up future blog posts and marketing ideas that will benefit UnderArmour.
I am from here.... Are you?

Meredith! I think this is a great idea !! If we can get the UA athletes to join in then we are sure to make the popular page of instagram and expose UA branding even more!!
I don’t know about you guys, but I am ALL OVER the new Instagram fad.
How can Under Armour harness this fun and engaging new social media trend? By asking their followers to compete, of course! That is why we all love Under Armour anyways, isn’t it?
So here’s an idea: UA Everyday - a month...

As the general manager for inTURINational Marketing firm, I overlook 8 different marketing teams that represent our clients such as Tom Tjaarda (a car designer that designed some Ferraris as well as the first Ford Fiesta), Lan Chile (an airline based out of Chile looking to go into low cost flying), a private island owner in Belize, a band based out of San Diego, CA, and a training firm based out of NYC called Exec-Comm.
One of my current client is Mike Haynes, an NFL Hall of Famer who wants to spread the message about prostate cancer to the male population. I have been working with a small team to develop ways to regularize conversation about prostate cancer to make it a world wide movement such as the pink breast cancer movement.
I created this sketch of the logo symbolizing not only Mike Haynes retired number for the Patriots but the age that Know Your Stats about Prostate Cancer organization believes men should definitely get checked.
My leadership skills and teamwork can be used at UnderArmour this summer to make sure that we maximize our abilities and are efficient in completing all marketing plans and tasks.
