It's hitting me on the W.i.t.c.h. reread just how much of a lesbian Irma is. Her whole comphet thing with Andrew Hornby and also literally any vaguely good-looking (but, crucially, unattainable) guy she comes across is impressive, but there's a whole scene where she looks at guys on the street and tries to decide who she should fall in love with. Implying that she believes that falling in love with a guy is a choice you actively make. One arc later, she has a crisis over Martin (a guy who's had a crush on her since forever and whom she likes as well - as a friend) not talking to her anymore, impulsively dyes her hair black, and then talks to her mother about how she feels abnormal because she never falls in love with anyone while her friends all have crushes or boyfriends. And even the whole thing where she nearly starts dating Joel, whom she likes and gets along with really well, ends up not going anywhere. They never get together. The queer subtext with her is so heavy, giving her a random straight love interest in the New Power arc was criminal.

i think some of things i’ve seen regarding complaints against batcat are that selina distracts bruce from his mission and that she turns bruce “into a simp.” i think you’re not understanding the batcat dynamic because various adaptations aren’t showcasing selina’s background correctly and you’re reducing her role within the narrative by looking at it through the lens of romance. i think there is a push-pull dynamic between them wrt to ideology and that bruce & selina are never going to have a forever domestic life situation like lois & clark, but i do think bruce (when written correctly) will always go the furthest for selina & that has to do with what selina represents.
selina (much like harley quinn is later on) is intended to represent the underbelly of gotham despite her criminality, she represents the underclass, the downtrodden, and victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. she represents the exact type of people within gotham that batman wants to protect from corrupt systems and disenfranchisement, as well as the types of criminals bruce desires to rehabilitate. to that extent - people like selina ARE a part of his mission, so he has to try his hardest to not give up on them and put them first. selina is a love interest intended to showcase the limits of bruce’s endless empathy and idealism, and that he will always have faith in her no matter what road she takes in life.
#i also think that selina not wanting bruce’s protection adds to the push and pull because she’s the type of person#that bruce will let challenge him#< prev tags#batcat

i think the big problem with twitter is that there's no way of stopping harassment or curating your space especially with the new block feature so i actually recommend more selina fans create spaces on tiktok or tumblr

I would love for her to be the revolutionary character she once was because I do consider her to be a trailblazer in her own right. you didn't see female characters written like she was back when she was created. that's why I love when you post older comic panels.
i miss that character dearly even i really discovered her not that long ago. I was reading the newer comic issues and it's really night and day. I know that due to the nature of this medium, characterization is going to change over the years but I wish they would keep her essence.
and i keep trying to imagine what kind of stories I would like dc to tell with this character that they originally created for a more modern and current time but who would even write that? I would love to discuss this more with other fans
if you want me to give you my frank observations: catwoman fans like to post art and rt stuff on social media but i barely see any meaningful discussions about her. you guys are so scared to be passionate in the correct ways. talk about her character. have something to say other than blatant engagement farming. do what fans of other characters do and demand better treatment. talk about the ways that dc fails selina outside of “not letting her marry bruce” you can do this 😭

finished #77. the inevitable betrayal happened. once I'm wondering how someone as seasoned as selina ended up in these situations. and ofc I felt nothing about said betrayal of Suzy being shot because I have 0 attachment to these characters. like idk who these people are. I want to care about whatever she had going on with Shota but again they give us nothing

Catwoman.
Used a billboard from one of the Arkham games as my background, cuz today I was lazy. This redesign took elements from my last attempt and incorporated a hoodie with cat ears and more red elements.
