I love your idea of new challenge per day. I'm trying a similar challenge, but one a week for a year.You mentioned that your idea was inspired by the TED talk and it gives every day meaning, and I agree, learning new skills keeps life exciting!

That's awesome! My goal in life is to acquire all skills. I think a weekly time frame is more manageable - trying to do one creative project a day is a little hectic.

I love how the bark on palm trees is a man made pattern. It looks so different on each tree depending on how close they trim it.

August 2011: Patterns and Textures

Tiring as it is, I enjoy having multiple challenges at once... go big or go home, right? I enjoyed how the geocache challenge was a picture challenge, and want to continue doing one art and one picture challenge per day for the next month. I also want to pick one that's a little easier and requires less traveling.

This project is a counterpart to my art project for the month (tessellations). I'm going to seek out interesting textures and patterns and tessels to help inspire me as I work though Jinny Beyer's amazing book: Designing Tessellations.

July 2011: Geocache per day recap

How did I fare on this challenge? Overall, pretty well! I only missed a few days for fairly legitimate reasons, and I easily made up those caches on surrounding days. This was a fun month! It was also challenging because I had already gotten many of the caches in area and I had to go further afield to keep doing one a day.

Did I accomplish my goal of learning to love the Peninsula? Hmm... kind of. I still feel like this area is pretty bland, but being forced to seek out caches made me get to know it better. I discovered some seriously cool parks and places I would never have discovered otherwise and that I definitely will return to. I have to say, I feel more at home in this area than I have in the year that I've been living here.

Doing this intensive bout of geocaching has also elevated my cache skills to a new level. I've gotten so much less conspicuous looking for caches; partly because I've realized people don't pay you too much mind, even if you're rifling through the bushes or running your hand along every crevice in a fence post. I've also discovered some extremely awesome and fun hides. I'm getting almost to the point where I want to hide my own. 

Now, onto the next challenge!
